  1. The Tit Trial: Napoleon and the Pope vs Vivienne Westwood

The Tit Trial: Napoleon and the Pope vs Vivienne Westwood

The breast: giver of life, target of shame, symbol of rebellion. But who actually owns it? In this episode, fashion history goes on trial.... quite literally. We begin above the clouds, in a celestial courtroom where Vivienne Westwood stands accused of crimes against tradition, decency, and power itself.  The prosecutors? An unlikely alliance: Napoleon Bonaparte and the Pope. What follows is a sharp, darkly humorous dialogue about nudity, control, revolution, and the most contested body part in fashion history. Once the heavenly verdict looms, we descend back to Earth to unpack what’s really on trial: ✨ the politics of the female breast ✨ From prehistoric fertility goddesses to Minoan priestesses, from Egyptian linen gowns to corsets of monarchy, from Revolutionary France to slavery in the United States, and finally to punk runways and Instagram censorship - this episode traces how the breast has been revealed, concealed, claimed, censored, and reclaimed across time and place. Through the lens of fashion psychology, sociology, and material culture, we explore: Why societies decide when breasts are sacred, sinful, political, or fashionableHow power - religious, state, patriarchal - has historically controlled the female bodyWhy moments of revolution tend to undress the breast, while conservative eras cover itHow designers like Vivienne Westwood turned exposure into strategy, protest, and artAnd how race, class, media, and technology complicate the idea of “liberation”Who gets to decide what women show, hide or own?  🎧 Expect theatre, history, provocation, and uncomfortable questions.  📸 Visual references mentioned in the episode will be shared on Instagram.  💬 Listen closely - then ask yourself: in your society today, how free is the breast really? Fasten your seatbelts. This is a bumpy ride.
