From Wrestling to Wall Street, The Wild Journey of Chris Janish

What happens when a kid growing up around organized crime chooses a completely different path and turns discipline, determination, and a little hustle into an extraordinary career? In this episode of Local Legends with Jess, Jessica Benevento and co host Jason Cocuzza sit down with Chris Janish, a New Jersey native whose story is anything but ordinary. Chris takes us back to growing up in New Jersey during the 1970s and 1980s, where encounters with crime and organized crime became part of the environment around him. Rather than following that path, Chris found his outlet through wrestling, discipline, and athletics. That determination eventually earned him a Division I wrestling scholarship to James Madison University and became the foundation for his next chapter. After college, Chris made an unexpected leap from wrestling and political science into the world of Wall Street, beginning his career in 1993. From there, his journey took him through experiences involving Wall Street, the bail bond industry, Rikers Island, and one of the largest bail bonds in New York history. Now, Chris is building companies, writing, creating, and developing a television series inspired by his remarkable life experiences. This conversation is filled with stories about growing up, finding your path, taking risks, overcoming your circumstances, and turning unexpected experiences into opportunities. In This Episode • Growing up in New Jersey and being exposed to organized crime at an early age • How Chris avoided the path that surrounded him • The role wrestling and athletics played in shaping his discipline • Earning a Division I wrestling scholarship to James Madison University • Why college became an important turning point • Making the unexpected transition from college to Wall Street • Chris's experiences in the bail bond industry • His connection to Rikers Island and the criminal justice system • The story behind one of the largest bail bonds in New York history • How difficult experiences can shape your future • Building businesses and creating new opportunities • Chris's book and his plans for a television series Meet Chris Janish Chris Janish is an entrepreneur, author, and former Wall Street professional whose extraordinary career has taken him through some of the most unexpected corners of business, finance, and the criminal justice system. How Are You Still Single with Kimmy

This episode is equal parts hilarious, honest, and a little too relatable. Jess sits down with the beautiful and wildly self-aware Kimmy to answer the question everyone is secretly thinking… how are you still single? What unfolds is a real, unfiltered look into modern dating. From dating apps that give you the ick before you even meet someone, to those tiny moments (yes… even a pizza order) that somehow reveal everything you need to know. Kimmy opens up about being a late bloomer in love, navigating relationships in her 20s and 30s, and why being single is not about lacking options… it is about having standards. And maybe just a tiny sensitivity to red flags (or hopping-on-the-sidewalk situations). There is something so refreshing about this conversation. It is funny, it is real, and it reminds you that being single is not a problem to fix… it is a choice to protect your peace until the right person shows up. You will laugh, you will cringe (in the best way), and you might even rethink what you are willing to tolerate in your own dating life. Because it says all the things we think but don’t always say out loud. Dating is weird. Standards matter. And sometimes… the ick is just the ick. What You’ll Hear Why being single in your 30s is actually empoweringThe truth about dating apps and burnoutWhat “the ick” really is and why it mattersReal stories that will make you laugh out loudThe difference between being picky and knowing your worthWhy settling is never the answerModern dating struggles Why am I still single Dating in your 30s The ick in dating Scottsdale dating scene Dating apps experience Single successful women Relationship standards These are the local legends shaping our communities. Eighth Grade Legends and What Comes Next

This episode is pure heart, laughter, and that sweet in-between moment of growing up. Jess sits down with two soon to be high schoolers who are standing right at the edge of something new. Fresh off eighth grade, they open up about what it really feels like to leave behind the place that raised them and step into a world that is bigger, unknown, and honestly kind of exciting. There is something so special about this stage of life. It is messy, funny, a little chaotic, and completely unforgettable. You can feel the mix of emotions as they talk about friendships, memories, getting into trouble, and figuring out who they are becoming. What makes this conversation so lovable is how real it is. No filters, no overthinking, just honest thoughts from two kids navigating that shift from being the “top dogs” to starting all over again. It is confidence mixed with nerves, independence mixed with still needing your people. And through all the laughs and stories, there is this quiet sweetness. The kind that makes you remember your own teenage years and think wow that really was a time. Why This Episode Just Feels Good Because it captures a moment we all lived through but rarely pause to appreciate. That space between childhood and who we are becoming. It is awkward, exciting, and kind of beautiful all at once. There is something so special about this age. You are not quite who you used to be and not fully who you are becoming yet. And somehow, in that in-between, you are exactly where you are meant to be. These are the local legends shaping our communities. Real stories, real talk, and powerful conversations. The $750000 Mistake Most People Do Not Realize They Are Making

Welcome back to the show where real life Local Legends have real conversations and today’s episode is exactly that. Jess is holding it down solo while her co-host is away, and she is joined by someone very special. Not just a colleague, but a true partner in the real estate world. Lisa Reyes. What starts as a casual conversation between friends quickly turns into something much bigger. A powerful look at why so many people feel overwhelmed, confused, and even intimidated when it comes to buying a home. And the truth is simple. Most of us were never taught how this works. Jess and Lisa break down the real reason people stay stuck renting, even when they are fully capable of owning. It is not because they are not smart. It is not because they do not make enough money. It is because no one ever showed them how. Lisa brings over 25 years of experience in title and escrow, giving her a behind the scenes understanding of what really happens in a real estate transaction. And what she has seen might surprise you. Buyers confused. Sellers frustrated. And sometimes agents who completely disappear when their clients need them most. That is exactly why Lisa made the decision to step into real estate. To guide people. To educate them. And to make sure no one feels lost during one of the biggest financial decisions of their life. One of the most eye opening moments in this episode comes when Jess shares her personal story. After years of renting, she realized she had spent over 750000 dollars on rent. Money that could have gone toward building wealth, equity, and long term stability. And she is not alone. This is happening to people every single day. Together, Jess and Lisa talk about the mindset shifts that need to happen. You do not need to be married to buy a home. You do not need to be rich. You do not need to have everything figured out. You just need the right guidance. They also pull back the curtain on what makes a real estate experience truly different. Communication. Transparency. And actually showing up for clients long after the deal is closed. Because for them, it is not about transactions. It is about relationships. This episode also dives into the future of real estate and how technology is changing the game. From AI driven contract review to smarter, more secure processes, Lisa explains how innovation is helping protect clients and create a smoother experience from start to finish. But at the heart of it all is one core belief. People deserve to feel confident, informed, and supported. Whether you are thinking about buying your first home, stuck in the renting cycle, or simply curious about how it all works, this conversation will change the way you see real estate. Because once you understand it, everything feels possible. If this episode resonates with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Because the more we talk about it, the more we learn and grow. These are the local legends shaping our communities. Real stories, real talk, and powerful conversations.
