Stuck in Your Old Identity? Here's How to Move Forward

Brotherhood Forged is a Christian men's podcast helping men grow in faith, discipline, and leadership. This episode kicks off a monthly three man series with Paul Bengel, Joey Koontz, and returning guest Fred Frederickson, and the topic is one every man knows in his bones: feeling stuck. Stuck in a job. Stuck in a routine. Stuck in an old version of yourself that stopped serving your future a long time ago. Joey opens up about being 8 days into finally breaking free from decades of yo yo health habits, sugar, and excuses. Paul shares his ongoing wrestling match with letting go of his identity as an athlete to grow into his identity as a husband, father, and leader. And Fred tells the story of the season he felt trapped in a career he hated, afraid to start over, until he learned that the thing nagging at you in your head is often your future self calling you forward. Together they break down what actually gets a man unstuck: identifying the belief behind the stuck feeling, taking ownership instead of making excuses, and surrounding yourself with brothers who will not let you settle for comfortable. Who Is Shaping You? Launching the Disciplined Disciple Series

Brotherhood Forged is a Christian men's podcast helping men grow in faith, discipline, and leadership. Every man is being formed. The question isn't if you're changing, it's who is shaping you. In this episode, Joey and Paul kick off the first structured episode of the "Disciplined Disciple" series, a 12-part journey (releasing once a month) built straight from the daily content used inside the Brotherhood Forged community. This one is all about setting the tone: why intentional formation matters, and why drifting is never neutral. Joey and Paul open up about their own Monday accountability check-ins, what it looks like to be honest about a goal you didn't hit, and why "reflect, reassess, recommit" beats guilt every time. Then they dig into three truths from Scripture: Who is shaping you? (Romans 12:1-2) - You're either being intentionally transformed by God or unintentionally conformed by the world. There's no neutral option. Train, don't try. (1 Timothy 4:7-8) - Godly men aren't built by one big effort, they're built by faithful reps, repeated over time, just like physical training. Don't just look in the mirror. (James 1:22-25) - Scripture isn't given to inform you, it's given to transform you. Reading it isn't the goal. Obeying it is. If you've ever wondered what actually happens inside the Brotherhood Forged community beyond the podcast mic, this episode pulls back the curtain. 🔥 Brotherhood Forged: Built for Men Who Refuse to Stay Stuck Brotherhood Forged is a coaching-driven community for men who are ready to lead with strength, faith, and integrity, in their homes, their bodies, their mindset, and their legacy. Why Most Men Fail the Mirror Test (James 1) | Brotherhood Forged

Brotherhood Forged is a Christian men's podcast helping men grow in faith, discipline, and leadership.   This week Joey is back in the room and we're pulling back the curtain on something we don't talk about enough: the Daily Forge, our Monday-through-Friday devotional inside the Brotherhood Forged community. This month we're in the book of James, and we walk through three days of it together: "Count It Joy" (James 1:2-3), asking God for wisdom without wavering (James 1:5-6), and the Mirror Test (James 1:23-25).   We get honest about how hard it is to actually count trials as joy, why most men fight their trials instead of learning from them, and what it looks like to have a divided heart when you pray. Paul shares the powerful Bryce Crawford "fence" analogy about picking a side between Jesus and the world, and we open up about how God brought the two of us together five years ago on a bus, twenty years apart in age and completely different seasons of life, for exactly this.   If you've ever read scripture, felt convicted, and then walked away and forgot what you saw in the mirror, this episode is for you.   🔥 Brotherhood Forged: Built for Men Who Refuse to Stay Stuck   This isn't just another group chat or motivational feed. Mistakes I Made So You Don't Have to.

Brotherhood Forged is a Christian men's podcast helping men grow in faith, discipline, and leadership. It's just Paul today. No Joey, no peanut butter and jelly, just peanut butter. We're trying something new: shorter, weekly solo episodes built off Paul's "If I Could Tell My Younger Self One Thing" series from social media and YouTube Shorts. The goal is simple: pass on the lessons we learned late, or the wrong way, so the next generation (our kids, our grandkids, you) doesn't have to. This episode's theme is intentionality. Five things Paul would tell his younger self: Life doesn't happen by accident. You become who you want to be through intentional daily choices, not by hoping it falls into place.Have the courage to go first. Courage comes before confidence, whether that's starting something new or being the one who apologizes first in your marriage.Stop trying to live someone else's life. Comparison steals your joy. God didn't call you to copy someone else's path, He gave you your own.Don't waste the season you're in. The opportunities in front of you right now have an expiration date. Don't trade them for something that'll always be there.Your marriage needs friendship. Love starts a marriage, but friendship is what carries it through the hard seasons.Bottom line: stop waiting for life to happen. Become the man you're praying to become by choosing him every single day. What's one thing you'd tell your younger self? Drop it in the comments, we'd love to hear it. Mentioned in this episode: Atomic Habits by James Clear (the "every decision is a vote" concept)Tim Tebow's college documentary (the midnight weight room story)Ben Killoy, friend of the show, on courage and societyEnjoying the show?
