Learning from others in the dairy industry is one of the many opportunities at World Dairy Expo. Her approach comes back to keeping things simple and practical. Attending World Dairy Expo or want to know what is changing for this year's event? This episode's industry expert is World Dairy Expo Board of Directors President Bill Hageman. He talks to us about this year's show, the many opportunities available to attendees and a brief look ahead at what is coming in 2027. Today's "Legacy Farmer" segment spotlights Mark Frost, of Withee, Wisconsin, alongside his wife, Cherrie. In today's "So You Think You Had a Bad Day" segment, we hear about a 3 a.m. wake-up call that led to a search for steers that had made their way out of the farm gate and into the yard. Looking Beyond the Visuals When Evaluating Corn Silage

Today's Dairy Delivery Podcast from Dairy Star is taking on a new format, highlighting dairy farmers and bringing together conversations with people throughout the dairy community. Each episode now includes three segments: a dairy expert conversation, a "Legacy Farmer" and "So You Think You Had a Bad Day" segments, which shares the challenges and perseverance found on dairy farms. You'll also hear a calendar of upcoming events for dairy farmers and a look at what's in the latest Dairy Star newspaper. This episode's dairy industry guest is Harkirat Kaur, corn agronomy extension specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dairy Farmers Connecting Communities, From Music and Farming to Iowa Dairy Royalty

Community music, raw milk sales, new Iowa dairy royalty and a longtime county fair tradition are among the stories featured in today's episode. First, we hear from father and son Jeff and Steve Schmitt, who operate Windy Hill Dairy in Iowa, while also playing in a community band on Wednesday nights during the summer. Both play the trumpet, and their time in the band gives them an opportunity to strengthen their connections with others beyond the farm gate. Then we hear from Sarah Fitzgerald, who was on the cusp of starting her career as a dairy farmer when her family had to sell their cows a few years ago. Now, she milks six cows in Illinois and has a permit to sell raw milk and also makes bars of soap from her cows' milk. Then we hear from two soon-to-be college roommates who will spend the next year representing Iowa's dairy industry after being crowned Iowa dairy royalty. The newly named 2026-27 Iowa Dairy Princess Hannah Hagen and the Iowa Dairy Princess Alternate Mae Wedemeier have known each other for years through shared interests ranging from dance to FFA. This fall, they will both attend Iowa State University to pursue agriculture-related studies while living together and serving as ambassadors for Iowa's dairy farmers and the industry. Today's final conversation highlights a county fair tradition that has been going strong for nearly 40 years. Reynold and Vivian Dittbenner have been serving sweet dairy treats to attendees at the Brown County Fair, showcasing the many delicious possibilities of dairy. The dairy delights have become a staple that many look forward to enjoying each fair season. Wolf Encounter on Dairy Farm, New Dairy Associate Degree, Family Chores and Crop Nutrition Insights

An unexpected wolf on a dairy farm leads the episode, along with a new associate degree aimed at strengthening the dairy technology workforce, a look at a day in the life of a Minnesota dairy farm family and insights into this year's crop and what it could mean for dairy nutrition. We begin with Nathan Kling, who found wolf tracks throughout the sand surround an area where one of his cows was recovering. Teeth and bite marks provided evidence of what caused the cows untimely death. Then we hear from Londa Nwadike of South Dakota State University about a new associate degree being offered this fall. While students have been able to complete 2-year technical degrees in related fields such as automation, there has not been a dedicated 2-year program focused specifically on dairy production or dairy processing. That is, until now. Next, we hear from a Minnesota dairy farming family. Each day three generations of the Rausch and Crosby family step foot into the barn for chores. Ann Crosby, and her two sons Cody and Chase, and her dad Tom Rausch, milk 60 cows at the family farm, Oak Grove Dairy, near Randall. Today's final conversation is with Barry Visser, a nutritionist and consistent contributor to the Dairy Star. We talk with him about this year's corn crop, including how weather patterns have affected crop growth and disease exposure. How Dairy Connects Visitors and Farmers at Midwest State Fairs

Every fair has something unique to offer, whether it's cookies and milk, a building dedicated to Wisconsin agriculture, or the iconic butter sculptures found in Minnesota and Iowa. Today, we're hearing the many dairy connections that bring these traditions to life, from showcasing dairy farming to highlighting the foods, exhibits and experiences visitors can enjoy at these Midwestern state fairs.  Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board President Nicole Barlass shares how dairy exhibits and experiences have grown and changed over the years on the fairgrounds near Milwaukee. A longtime volunteer, Barlass discusses Dairy Lane, daily dairy and goat milking demonstrations, youth dairy shows and the award-winning products recognized through the state fair dairy products contest, many of which fairgoers can sample from the board’s stands. Next, former Princess Kay of the Milky Way Brenna Bobendreier, now Minnesota and North Dakota farmer relations manager for Midwest Dairy, highlights Minnesota's celebrated dairy traditions. She talks about the butter sculptures carved in the likenesses of Princess Kay finalists, dairy-focused educational partnerships and exhibits such as the Eco Experience and the many ways fairgoers can experience dairy during their visit. The episode concludes with Mitch Schutte, vice president of agricultural affairs at Midwest Dairy, who shares how dairy comes to life at the Iowa State Fair. Schutte discusses the iconic butter cow, student-led Parlor Talks, opportunities for visitors to connect with dairy farmers and the dairy foods and experiences that make the fair a favorite destination each year.
