He Who Promised Is Faithful | Genesis 25:12-34 | Deacon Jonathan Wilder

Genesis 25 opens with two genealogies and two fulfillments. Ishmael's twelve sons become twelve princes, exactly as God promised Hagar and Abraham. Then the line turns to Isaac: Rebekah, barren for twenty years, bears twins — and Esau, the firstborn, sells his birthright for a bowl of stew. Through it all runs one thread: He who promised is faithful. This message draws three lessons from God's promises: • God keeps His promises — He swore by Himself to Abraham and has followed through for generation after generation. He does not lie, and the promises He makes to us — salvation, forgiveness, provision, wisdom, rest, and strength — will be fulfilled just as surely. • We must wait in faith for the promise — Abraham waited 25 years for Isaac, Isaac and Rebekah waited 20 years for their sons, and Joseph, Hannah, and David all had to wait too. Waiting is where faith is tested, and God's timing is worth trusting. • Don't profane the promise like Esau — he traded something enduring for something immediately satisfying, and afterward found no place to undo it. The pleasures of this world are not worth selling our inheritance for. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
