Honestly, this podcast makes me sad. It is such a gross misunderstanding of church teaching that it could seriously harm young couples trying to live their faith. They apparently have a better understanding of Theology of the Body than JPII. Their misunderstanding of intimacy in marriage is so flawed I don’t even know where to begin. While so many people in our culture are ACTUALLY contracepting, they rail against couples who use an instructor to help with their fertility in their marriage. Have they ever thought that perhaps using an instructor could help diagnose health issues, assist with infertility, or help couples who have serious reason to try and avoid pregnancy in a 100% moral way? Clearly, this young couple has faced very few trials in their marriage. They claim the moral thing to do when discerning to avoid pregnancy is, not to practice an NFP method such as Marquette, but to abstain completely. Here is one scenario – after 10 years of marriage a couple has seven children, and any future pregnancies would pose serious danger to the woman. Should they now abstain for the next 25 years until she reaches menopause? How absurd. No mention of the church teaching on sex being both unitive and procreative and what it really means to be a total gift of self in the “marital debt” conversation. I won’t even get into the strange opinions on veiling and Novus Ordo. Listeners- please go directly to Church documents and ignore the wild claims they make.
