A Ghost Saw Me In The Shower And…

Lily & Julia celebrated their friends’ 30th birthdays in Toronto & New Orleans, and all they brought back was this lousy podcast! Enjoy this extremely haphazard episode about plantations, pharmacies, ghosts, and Niagara Falls. Also a very long section about Survivor… anyway… body go craaazzyyyy !!! Graphics & edited by Julia.

Imagine Yourself At A 10 Day Silent Meditation Retreat

In our woo-iest episode yet, Lily takes us through her 10-day silent meditation retreat and teaches us all about the history of Vipassana meditation. Thank you Goenka (also pictured) for bringing Vipassana to the West and thank you Julia for listening so attentively and then hogging the mic when it’s time to talk about her favorite subject… us ! It’s Bowling Bitch or (The Unexpected Art of the Turkey)

Welcome back!!! Today Julia gets into the history of her favorite pastime/sport/game… bowling! If you know us, you know we are bowling freaks. Julia famously once bowled a 161. Perhaps the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, since her dad was famously captain of his high school bowling team. Speaking of which, welcome to the pod Marc Sirkin, our very first guest!!! Besides bowling, we also give an obscene number of shoutouts… shoutout to MOMIMonsters IncGiz LilbertJulia’s dadJulia’s sisterLily’s birthdayAppointments brunchVipassana MeditationRip Van WinkleCats (if they slayed)The MoransSpecifically EarlRussian literatureWomen’s hockeyPickleballOrlando, FloridaGoing on more datesJury DutyShoutoutsGraphics & edited by Julia.

Gay Little Fellows Dancing the Can-Can For Love

This month, Julia tricks you into learning about Weimar Germany via the cabaret, and Lily gives a lesson about two little-known groups of musicians — the European Goliards and the Islamic Qiyans. We also recap our trips to New Orleans, Woodstock, and D.C., reminisce about food in a sort of desperate way that makes you think we’re on Survivor, brag about all the movies we’re going to see (who cares girls!), and recommend “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” Co-edited by Lily & Julia; graphics by Julia.

Film History

Y’all wanted longer episodes & your wish is our command!!! Lily brings us up to speed on the history of the blockbuster and Julia teaches us all about the Hays Code & film censorship. We gab for the first 45 minutes… so skip ahead if you’re just here for the history. We chat about our very busy September, Stardew Valley, our split opinions on The History of Sound, all the movies on our watchlist, Liz Gilbert’s new memoir, and way more! Probably so much more than you ever wanted to hear from us! Okay bye! Graphics & edited by Julia.

Six More Inventors!

Per a fan request, Julia dives into the biography of Ada Lovelace aka “prophet of the computer age” aka “Enchantress of Numbers” (ok sexyyyy) and Lily tells us about not one - not two - not three - not four - but FIVE different women inventors! We also talk about the Gilded Age, Lily's upcoming French New Wave short film, and whether AI spouses pass the Lovelace Test. Graphics & edited by Julia.

New York City

In honor of our move to New York City, Lily shares the (surprisingly feminist) history of the Brooklyn Bridge and Julia recounts the tragedy of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire (an adolescent fixation of hers). Heads up we spend the first 15 minutes chatting about what we’ve been up to and the last 10ish minutes dissecting our latest obsession, Girls. (At time of recording, we’re at the beginning of season 4.) See you soon, probably, bye!!! Edited by Julia; graphics by Lily.
