This is a review from an atheist. I don't know what theists think of this podcast. It would be interesting to hear.
The main mission of the podcast is for atheists and theists to find common ground. This means that they unfortunately let disagreements slide by pretty often. The atheists are not hard enough on the theists and are holding back when I would have seen so many opportunities for serious disagreement. This results in the podcast being pretty frustrating to listen to. It's good to hear the theistic side of the arguments, but I think it's quite possible to be respectful and still have a serious debate about it.
This is more of a discussion show where these issues are discussed from multiple perspectives, but there isn't very much interplay between the perspectives and comparisons of them. One example is when one theist brought up a really atrocious passage from Numbers where god sanctions the kidnapping and raping of women, and then proceeded to provide a defense for the passage. The atheists didn't say anything about it while I was practically foaming at the mouth. I can't understand how they could have kept silent about something so infuriating.
However, a great thing about the podcast is that I disagree with it so frequently that it gives me a lot to think about and write about, whereas I'm simply nodding my head when I listen to a lot of other atheist podcasts.
I don't buy into the idea, expressed in the intro, that atheists and theists need to tone down their rhetoric and find common ground. I think it's quite the opposite. I'd like to see a no-holds-barred debate show between theists and atheists. Theists need to be used to having their ideas vigorously contested in civilized arguments, because that's the way it's going to be from now on.
