GUILTY: Isaac Apodaca Convicted of First-Degree Murder in Grace Jennings's Sword Killing, Timothy Besaw Gets the Max .

A three-case roundup. In Santa Fe, New Mexico, a jury convicted Isaac Apodaca, 30, of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the 2022 death of 21-year-old Grace Jennings, who was killed with a sword in a detached garage after asking to stay the night. Nobody disputed Apodaca swung nothing; his girlfriend Kiara McCulley pleaded guilty and testified that he manipulated her into it over months. Apodaca was remanded into custody; sentencing has not been scheduled, and first-degree murder carries a life sentence in New Mexico. In Saratoga County, New York, Timothy Besaw, 35, was sentenced to 12½ to 25 years — the maximum under his plea — for the death of 69-year-old Walmart employee Michael Bushey, who was struck by Besaw's car after telling him to leave the parking lot and died three weeks later of a blood clot following multiple surgeries. And in Payette, Idaho, Andrea Shaw, 23, charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her 18-month-old twins, had her $2 million bond revoked entirely after requesting a reduction; Judge Kiley Stuchlik cited risk to Shaw's newborn. Shaw has not entered a plea and is presumed innocent; the cause of the twins' deaths remains disputed. This episode discusses the deaths of children. Isaac Apodaca Sword Trial: Kiara McCulley Testifies She Believed He Was an Archangel, Ryan Cooper Convicted in Lacambria Toomer's Murder

A three-case roundup. In Santa Fe, New Mexico, the murder and conspiracy trial of Isaac Apodaca, 30, neared its end as the state's key witness took the stand: Kiara McCulley, 23, who has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and conspiracy in the 2022 sword killing of 21-year-old Grace Jennings, and who testified under a plea agreement requiring her cooperation. Nobody disputes McCulley swung the sword; prosecutors say Apodaca was the architect who manipulated her into it. Apodaca has pleaded not guilty; his defense argues McCulley was the driver and Apodaca the gullible one. A verdict may have been returned since recording. In Albany, Georgia, a jury deliberated less than an hour before convicting Ryan Cooper, 28, of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another in the 2022 disappearance of Lacambria Toomer, 23, the mother of his child — a case built on phone and GPS data, with no body, no crime scene, and no confession. Toomer has never been found; Cooper has not been sentenced and retains the right to appeal. And in Coral Springs, Florida, prosecutors added neglect and other counts against Joel Kohnert, 44, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue lieutenant, and Jennifer Kohnert, 45, who have pleaded not guilty to aggravated child abuse involving their adopted daughter; trial is set for late August. This episode discusses violent death, domestic violence, and the alleged abuse of a child. Lindsay Clancy Trial Begins Monday: Judge Bars Postpartum-Psychosis Survivors, Patrick Clancy to Testify for the Defense, and Baldoni Fights

A three-case roundup. In Plymouth, Massachusetts, the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy nears, with jury selection set for July 20th. Clancy, 35, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the January 2023 strangulation deaths of her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 7 months; her defense concedes she caused their deaths but argues she was in the grip of postpartum psychosis and not criminally responsible. Judge William Sullivan has barred the defense from calling other women who survived postpartum psychosis (ruling they can't speak to Clancy's state of mind), denied jury sequestration, and plans to seat eighteen jurors. The children's father, Patrick Clancy, is expected to testify for the defense. In New York, the civil battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively — which settled in May with no payment or admission after most claims were dismissed on legal grounds — continues over Lively's request for more than $8 million in legal fees; Baldoni's side calls the request excessive. And in North Carolina, an order for arrest was issued for Jen Belichick, daughter-in-law of coach Bill Belichick, after she missed a court date on a speeding citation. This episode discusses postpartum mental illness, suicide, and the deaths of children; the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7. Join our new FB groups page here. Take the poll! Thomas Stein Sentenced to Life Plus 45 in Kayla Rincon-Miller's Murder, the Bridegan Murder-for-Hire Fight Over the Widow's Phone, and a WD-

A three-case roundup. In Lee County, Florida, eighteen-year-old Thomas Stein was sentenced to life in prison plus 45 years after a jury convicted him of first-degree felony murder in the 2024 shooting death of fifteen-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller, who was walking to get food with two friends after a movie when prosecutors say Stein and a co-defendant stopped to rob them; because Stein was sixteen at the time, the life sentence carries a review after fifteen years. Whether Stein fired the fatal shot is disputed — he maintains he did not — but Florida's felony murder law does not require it. In Jacksonville, Shanna Gardner and Mario Fernandez Saldana, who have pleaded not guilty in the alleged murder-for-hire killing of Gardner's ex-husband Jared Bridegan, were in court as Gardner's defense sought access to the phone of Bridegan's widow, Kirsten; prosecutors called it a fishing expedition. Trials begin in August. And in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Phyllis Palazzola was indicted on attempted murder and related charges after a longtime friend alleged Palazzola tried to subdue her with a WD-40-soaked rag over an unpaid $180,000 loan; Palazzola has not entered a plea and is due for arraignment July 21st. Larry Millete Convicted in Maya Millete's Murder, the "Ghost" Sword-Murder Trial of Isaac Apodaca in Grace Jennings's Killing, and a Verdict

A three-case roundup. In San Diego, a jury convicted Larry Millete, 44, of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Maya Millete, a Chula Vista mother who vanished in January 2021 and whose body has never been found; prosecutors built the case partly on messages Millete allegedly sent to online spellcasters before she disappeared, and jurors convicted in under a day without agreeing on the method of killing. In Santa Fe, New Mexico, the first-degree murder trial of Isaac Apodaca, 30, is underway in the 2022 sword killing of 21-year-old Grace Jennings; prosecutors say Apodaca never held the weapon but spent months manipulating his girlfriend, Kiara McCulley — who pleaded guilty and is testifying — into the killing by convincing her she was part of a vigilante group. Apodaca has pleaded not guilty and says he was the one manipulated. And in Lompoc, California, Ashlee Buzzard, 40, charged with murder in the death of her nine-year-old daughter Melodee Buzzard — whose remains were found in Utah in December after she was reported missing in October 2025 — was back in court; she has pleaded not guilty, and her preliminary hearing is set for September. This episode discusses the killing of a young woman and the death of a child; the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-422-4453) and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline are available 24/7. Charlie Kirk Case: The "95% DNA Match" Headline Is Wrong, Tyler Robinson's Hearing Ends Today, D4vd's Preliminary Date Set, and 16 Children

A four-case roundup. In Provo, Utah, the preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson — charged with aggravated murder in the September 2025 shooting of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk — reaches its final scheduled day, and Judge Tony Graf may rule on whether the case proceeds to trial. Garret Fisher explains why the widely circulated "95% DNA match" headline misdescribes FBI examiner Amanda Bakker's testimony: 95% was a mixture ratio, not a probability of identification, and the actual likelihood ratio reported from the courtroom is orders of magnitude larger. Robinson has not entered a plea; the state is seeking the death penalty. In Los Angeles, David Anthony Burke, the 21-year-old musician who records as D4vd, has a July 21st preliminary hearing date in the killing of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez; he has pleaded not guilty to all counts. In Payette, Idaho, Andrea Shaw, 23, indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her 18-month-old twins, Dallas and Tyson, asks a judge on July 14th to reduce her $2 million bond; she maintains her innocence, and the children's cause of death has not been publicly released. And in Vinton County, Ohio, one of four adults charged with sixteen counts of endangering children — after sixteen children were found living in a 12-by-12-foot room — was released on a recognizance bond because the county could not afford his hospital care. All four have pleaded not guilty. This episode discusses the deaths and abuse of children. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-422-4453. Prince Harry Loses His Daily Mail Case, Karmelo Anthony's Appeal Begins in the Austin Metcalf Murder, and the Angels Landing Death Reopened

A three-case roundup. In London, the High Court dismissed all 97 claims that Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and six other claimants — including Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Sadie Frost, and Liz Hurley — brought against Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail, accusing its journalists of phone hacking and unlawful information-gathering; Mr. Justice Nicklin accepted the publisher's evidence, and a key claimant witness disowned his own statement in court. Harry and Baroness Lawrence called the ruling a whitewash; the publisher called it a vindication, and costs remain to be decided. In Collin County, Texas, a new pro bono legal team for Karmelo Anthony — the 19-year-old convicted June 9th of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet and sentenced to 35 years — filed a motion for a new trial (challenging courtroom access and pretrial process, not the conviction directly) and a motion to recuse Judge John Roach, who defended the verdict in televised interviews after sentencing. The conviction and sentence currently stand. And in Utah, David Vander Meer was charged with murder and insurance fraud in the 2006 death of his wife, Bernadette Vander Meer, who fell from the Angels Landing trail in Zion National Park in what was long ruled an accident; the case was reopened after a tip, but Vander Meer died in custody in Las Vegas three days after his arrest, before any trial. He was never convicted and is presumed innocent. This episode discusses suicide; in the U.S. you can call or text 988 at any time. Join our new FB groups page here. Take the poll!
