Patriots from the Barrio: Episode 6 - Bernardo de Galvez

Bernardo de Gálvez and the American Revolution: Leadership That Helped Secure a Nation. Most Americans have never heard his name. Yet Bernardo de Gálvez helped lead one of the most important campaigns of the American Revolution. In this special episode of Patriots from the Barrio, we follow the remarkable story of the Spanish governor who carried the war up the Mississippi River, captured Fort Bute, Fort New Richmond, Natchez, and Mobile, and ultimately launched the campaign that broke British power in West Florida. From hurricanes in the Gulf... to the famous "Yo Solo" moment at Pensacola Harbor... to the longest continuous siege of the American Revolution... this episode brings to life one of history's most overlooked military leaders. Discover how Gálvez's victory at Pensacola changed the strategic balance of the war, how Spanish diplomacy and intelligence reached George Washington through Juan de Miralles, Francisco Rendón, and Francisco Saavedra, and how events on the Gulf Coast helped shape the road to Yorktown. This is the story of leadership, determination, diplomacy, and sacrifice. It is also the story of a man honored by King Carlos III, remembered by George Washington, recognized by the Continental Congress, and ultimately granted honorary United States citizenship more than two centuries after his death. Join us as we uncover the extraordinary life and legacy of Bernardo de Gálvez. Because some of the most important stories in American history... ...have remained in the shadows.
