Hi all, Season 2 of the podcast will run from Nov 13 2026 - Jan 1 2027. You can find Listen & Often on any podcast provider. You presumably already know that our first limited series, James Pond, starring David Mitchell and Tamsin Greig, is shortlisted for a Speakie (Bookseller/Stage audio awards). It’s a funny shortlist. On it, L&O is David if David was half of David’s size and Goliath were five Goliaths, each of whom had tank. Everyone’s keen to make Season 2 of James Pond, but that won’t be possible till early next year at best for filming reasons. Apart from that, what’s new? First, we’re making Substack our home base. Existing Patreon subscribers don’t need to do anything in the short term, we will keep that feed live. But new subscribers will need to sign up there. Are we doing this in order to create a future administrative nightmare for ourselves? Only time will tell. Second , the podcast will not be behind a paywall this season. L&O is an ongoing experiment in building a community of subscribers that pays for written audio, like James Pond. We made that show thanks to our subscribers, and we’re making S2 thanks to you too, but we need more to make it a viable long-term project, so this is the next part of the experiment. Third, there is a massively important rule of both rhetoric and comedy called the Rule of Three, which we heed wherever we can. Finally, paid subscribers will get a weekly newsletter during the season, and a periodic one outside of that, which we will try to make entertaining. (We try to make everything we do entertaining, to be honest.) It is also possible that you get bonus episodes, but we will have to see how November and December pan out. We will be very, very susceptible to subscription pressure. However, we make no guarantees, because part of doing a limited season is recording and editing it in advance so it is not so terrifying on a weekly basis.
