Transformation Weight Control Podcast

Rich Weil, M.Ed., CDE

Welcome to the weekly Transformation Weight Control Podcast! We’ve been helping people lose weight for over 25 years. Before that, in the 44th year of my career, I’ve been deeply involved in creating and directing leading evidence-based, medically supervised weight loss programs and research at hospitals and clinics in New York City.   Our mission—with both TWC and this podcast—is to deliver the most up-to-date, trustworthy, and relevant information available. We all know that health and weight loss information online can be overwhelming and often unreliable. That won’t be the case here.   Together with my co-host Alex Tushinsky, we’ll speak with true experts in their fields. Our goal is to bring you accurate, evidence-based conversations you can trust—and that will help you make informed decisions for losing weight, keeping it off, and your health, just like what we’ve always done at TWC.   We’re excited to share this journey with you and are committed to bringing you nothing but the truth about what really works. If there’s a topic you’d like us to explore, let us know—we’re here for you.   We look forward to bringing these podcasts to you! Understanding the Trauma of Obesity

In this episode of the Transformation Weight Control podcast, Rich, Alex and guest Naomi Boak discuss the complexities of living with obesity, the trauma associated with it that tracks from childhood into adulthood, frequently as a secret, and the transformative effects of GLP-1 medications. Naomi is a participant in the Weight Loss Medication Support Group at Transformation Weight Control. Naomi shares her personal journey, highlighting the emotional and psychological challenges she faced, the stigma of obesity, and most important, and a key takeaway for our listeners, the hope she found through GLP-1 medication and support groups. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding obesity as a chronic disease and the need for self-compassion and support in the journey towards the challenges of weight loss, self-acceptance, and deeply understanding that your body weight is NOT YOUR FAULT. You did not wake up one day and thought how cool it would be to struggle with your weight and suffer the trauma, stigma, shame, guilt, isolation, self-blame, low self-esteem, and "false equivalence", the belief that you define yourself by the number on the scale. Listen or watch how Naomi describes how she has successfully coped and continues to do so. Season 2, Episode 6: Anna's Journey Before and After Weight Loss Medication (Our Second Anna!)

In this episode of the Transformation Weight Control Podcast, Anna (our second Anna from season 1, episode 5!), shares her profound journey of living with the chronic disease of obesity. Anna details the emotional struggles of living with having obesity; the societal stigma, shame, guilt, self-blame, self-loathing, isolation, lack of self-esteem, and emotional and physical trauma, and then the transformative impact of GLP-1 medications on her life. She discusses the misconceptions surrounding weight loss medications, and the importance of understanding that obesity is a chronic disease that requires ongoing treatment and management. Anna's story highlights the significant changes and sometimes continuous struggle with her body image, self-identity, and overall health, as a result of 113 pounds of weight loss, as well as her aspirations for the future. Through her experience, listeners gain insights into the complexities of weight loss and preventing regain, the role of hormones in appetite regulation, the emotional toll of living with having obesity, and the transformation, including normalization of appetite regulation, as a result of taking a GLP-1 weight loss medication, combined with all the behavioral and lifestyle change skills she learned prior to the medication. Anna emphasizes in her closing comments that anyone struggling with living with obesity take the time to understand that having obesity is a chronic disease and that it is NOT YOUR FAULT. No one intentionally chose to struggle with this chronic disease. It's an inspiring podcast, not to me missed. We thank Anna for participating, and for her honesty and courage coming forward with her extraordinary journey.  You can reach Rich Weil at rich@transformationweightcontrol.com to discuss the Weight Loss Medication Support Group at TWC that Anna participates in and reports how helpful it has been in supporting her journey. www.transformationweightcontrol.com https://transformationweightcontrol.com/12-week-weight-loss-medication-support-group/ Send us a text

The Human Experience, and Exercise Science, with Dr. Renee Rogers

In this episode of the Transformation Weight Control podcast, hosts Rich and Alex engage in a deep conversation with Dr. Renee Rogers, an exercise physiologist and expert in biobehavioral interventions for physical activity. They explore the importance of individualized exercise, the barriers people face in maintaining physical activity, and the role of self-efficacy in exercise adherence (i.e., how confident you are that you can perform exercise and stick with it). Dr. Rogers emphasizes the significance of understanding the human experience in exercise, particularly for exercise professionals and fitness trainers while working with clients and patients, especially those with obesity, the impact of past experiences on current attitudes towards physical activity (such as your experience in physical education in school as a child and teen), and the need for self-compassion in relation to your skills, experiences, and thoughts and feelings related to exercise and physical activity. The discussion also covers the metabolic health of muscle, the importance of movement at any age, the loss of lean tissue, skeletal muscle mass, and other elements of body composition during weight loss, and the future of Dr. Rogers's exercise science research, particularly in relation to the effect of weight loss on the metabolic health of skeletal muscle, and body composition in general, while using GLP-1 medications for treatment of the chronic disease of obesity.  Rich Weil can be reached at rich@transformationweightcontrol.com and information about the weight loss medication support can be found here: https://transformationweightcontrol.com/12-week-weight-loss-medication-support-group/ Send us a text
