BEST OF: Big Gulps, Bigger Houses & the Happiness Trap | Ep. 98 | Wyatt Matters

This week on Wyatt Matters, we’re revisiting one of our favorite conversations about something almost everyone is chasing: happiness. It starts with thousands of European World Cup visitors getting their first real taste of America—and discovering that everything really is bigger here. Free refills. Giant portions. Costco samples. Ice-cold air conditioning. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently: heartburn, summer colds, and a few unexpected pounds. Then the crew turns to a wealthy couple living in a 9,000-square-foot mansion who become convinced that one more luxury addition will finally make their home—and their lives—complete. Instead, the project becomes an expensive disaster that costs them far more than money. Both stories point toward the same question: Why do we keep believing that just a little more will finally make us happy? King Solomon had wealth, pleasure, success, possessions, influence, and virtually every opportunity available to a man of his time. Yet after pursuing all of it, Ecclesiastes records his conclusion: everything pursued “under the sun” apart from God ultimately fails to satisfy. It’s a funny conversation with a serious reminder: more isn’t necessarily better—and happiness makes a terrible finish line. 🎙️ Featured co-hosts: Bruce Templeton – https://www.instagram.com/coltoncross Maribeth Dodd – https://www.maribethdodd.com/The Healthy Hustle Podcast – https://www.youtube.com/@TheHealthyHustlePodcast Kimberlee Herman – https://www.promisehillpodcast.com/https://www.redeemedhopeaz.com/ 👉 Visit our sponsor:Yrefy – Student Loan Refinance for Struggling Borrowershttps://yrefy.com/ 👉 Watch and hear more from Wyatt Matters:https://www.wyattmattersshow.com/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Poop Pills, Fish Homicide, and The Problem With Trying to Be Perfect | Ep. 94 | Wyatt Matters

This week’s show starts with a sleep remedy nobody asked for: scientists are testing capsules made from donated fecal material as a treatment for chronic insomnia. Yes, poop pills. And yes, Steve and the crew have questions. Then, a 76-year-old man loses sleep over the noise coming from his neighbor’s koi pond. The fish themselves are silent, but his battle with the pond takes a turn nobody saw coming and somehow ends with what Steve calls “fish homicide.” From there, Steve gets personal about his own struggle with perfectionism. What looks like a commitment to excellence can become something much less healthy when fear of failure, control, and the need to get everything exactly right take over. The conversation turns to faith and a question many people wrestle with: What if I’m never good enough? The crew explores why following Jesus was never supposed to mean achieving perfection, and why the Christian life begins by admitting that we can’t fix ourselves.   🎙️ This week’s co-hosts: Todd Bussey – https://www.facebook.com/todd.bussey.71/ Bruce Templeton – https://www.instagram.com/coltoncross Garrett Shelp – https://www.facebook.com/garrettshelp 👉 Visit our sponsor: Yrefy – Student Loan Refinance for Struggling Borrowershttps://yrefy.com/ 👉 For more from Wyatt Matters, head to:https://www.wyattmattersshow.com/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
