All Kinds of Prayer: When You Need an Answer - November 1 2026 - Rev. Bob Solon

Life brings moments when we desperately need answers, long for God to hear our cries, seek His healing and help for someone we love, or simply want to thank Him for His goodness. Whatever we're facing, prayer is our direct connection to a God who hears, cares, and responds. Join us as we begin a new sermon series exploring the power of prayer in every season of life, "All Types of Prayer". Discover how to approach God with confidence, trust Him with your deepest concerns, lift others before His throne, and cultivate a heart of gratitude. Different circumstances. Different prayers. One faithful God who always listens. The enemy was closing in. The odds were overwhelming. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were facing a battle they could not win—and they had no idea what to do next. So they prayed. In 2 Chronicles 20:1–22, desperation drives an entire nation to seek God. They remember who He is, confess their dependence on Him, and declare, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” And God answers: The battle is not yours—it’s Mine. When you’ve run out of solutions and don’t know what comes next, prayer turns your eyes from the size of the problem to the greatness of the God who fights for you. Don't stop praying! We would be delighted if you could join us in person for our Sunday morning worship service! It starts at 10 am every Sunday, and there are multiple Sunday School options available before the worship service. Children’s Church is also available during the worship service.    Hope Wesleyan Church  505 4th Ave NE  Independence, IA 50644

The Disconnect: I Believe in God, But I Don't Believe I Need the Church - October 25 2026 - Rev. Steve Norby

Today we welcome guest speaker Rev. Steve Norby, Assistant Superintendent for the Northwest District of the Wesleyan Church. Paul compares the church to a human body. A body has many different parts, each with a different purpose, but every part belongs and every part matters. In the same way, followers of Jesus are different, but through the Holy Spirit we are joined together as one body—the Body of Christ. No Christian can truthfully say, “I don’t need you,” and no believer should think, “I don’t belong” or “I don’t matter.” God intentionally places each person within the body, giving them a role in serving and caring for others. When one part suffers, we suffer together. When one part is honored, we celebrate together. Bottom line: Christianity was never meant to be lived alone. We need Christ—and Christ designed us to need one another. October is Pastor Appreciation Month—a special opportunity to say Thank You to those who faithfully serve, lead, encourage, and care for our church family. We are incredibly grateful for Pastor Bob, Pastor Elissa, and Kaitlynn, our Student Ministries Director. Their dedication, prayer, leadership, and love for people make a difference in our church and community every day. Throughout October, take a moment to encourage them, pray for them, send a note, or simply say “Thank You” for the many ways they serve. Let’s make sure they know how much they are appreciated! The Disconnect: I Believe in God, But I Won't Share My Faith - October 18 2026 - Rev. Bob Solon

We believe in Jesus. We believe He saves. We believe the world desperately needs Him. But when it comes time to tell someone else, we stay silent. In Matthew 28:18–20, Jesus leaves His followers with more than a suggestion—He gives them a mission: Go. Make disciples. Share what you have received. The gospel was never meant to stop with us. Fear, awkwardness, rejection, or simply not knowing what to say can keep us quiet. But Jesus doesn’t send us alone. The One who commands us to go also promises, “I am with you always.” If Jesus has changed our lives, the question isn’t whether we have something worth sharing—it’s who needs to hear it from us?   October is Pastor Appreciation Month—a special opportunity to say Thank You to those who faithfully serve, lead, encourage, and care for our church family. The Disconnect: I Believe in God, But I Justify My Favorite Sin - October 11 2026 - Rev. Bob Solon

We believe in God. We believe His Word is true. But when His truth confronts the sin we don’t want to surrender, we start making excuses: “It’s not that bad. Everyone does it. God understands.” In 1 Corinthians 5:1–8, Paul confronts a church that had become comfortable with what God called sin. Instead of repentance, there was tolerance. Instead of transformation, there was compromise. Grace was never meant to give us permission to remain unchanged. Jesus didn’t save us so we could make peace with our sin—He came to set us free from it. The question isn’t whether God will forgive what we surrender. The question is: What are we still refusing to surrender?   October is Pastor Appreciation Month—a special opportunity to say Thank You to those who faithfully serve, lead, encourage, and care for our church family. The Disconnect: I Believe in God, But I Refuse to Forgive - October 4 2026 - Rev. Bob Solon

Forgiveness sounds easy—until someone truly hurts us. We keep score. We remember the wounds. We wonder how many chances one person deserves. In Matthew 18:21–35, Peter asks Jesus a question we’ve all wrestled with: “How many times do I have to forgive?” Jesus responds with a story that exposes the enormous grace we’ve received from God—and the danger of refusing to extend that same grace to others. We have been forgiven a debt we could never repay. Now Jesus calls us to release the debts we’re still holding against others. Forgiven people are called to become forgiving people.
