    The Gift of Giving

The hardest part about giving away our money, time, or resources, is it very easily becomes a burdensome task. But giving is not just sending away something to another person, rather it is an expression of the grace of God in our hearts. This grace is a gift that becomes the glue that God uses to join together our actions, and the good desire to serve Jesus and His church.

    Good Grief

Paul says there is a kind of grief that ends in rejoicing when it has done its work. However, not all pain is created equal. There is a kind of grief that leads to shame and destruction, and there is — a godly grief— that hurts for a little while, but ends in repentance, healing and wholeness.

    The Main Thing

Loosing sight of the main purpose of a business or a teams goals, often leads to challenges or premature endings. We all know that having committed focus on a goal supports continued success and growth. In this chapter, Paul tells the church just that. Whether relationally, or basic Christian charity, the church is called to keep the gospel the main thing.

    Reconciliation

Broken relationships seem to be one of the most common similarities across the human experience. The poor and wealthy alike all experience stained relationships from time to time. However, our relationship with God finds healing in the Cross of the Christ. What was broken is now healed, what was severed is now mended, and in response of His actions towards us, we are now sent to join the healing process. The reconciled, have now become the reconcilers.

Living Like Heaven Has Been Promised

Why would a professional tent maker highlight the faulty reality of tents? Instead of pushing his product, Paul brings his captured audiences’ attention to the limited nature of an earthly tent. To make it worse, he begins to tell them about an eternal tent that will never fail. Paul is intentionally taking time to help us compare the limited promises of this life with the secure eternal promises only found in Jesus.

    The Paradox of Christian Victory

Throughout history, God has loved to display His power through weakness. The life and ministry of the Apostle Paul represents this well. There was not much that externally appeared glorious about his ministry and yet the gospel still went forth. Paul presents us with a paradox of sorts, ordinary vessels are used by a God with extraordinary power and it produces an eternal weight of glory. This is not done arbitrarily, rather it beautifully displays the glory of God.

    Out of Darkness

The natural response for the average person is to give up, or change course when things continue to go south. In the first part of chapter 4, Paul tells us that in addition to everything else working against his ministry, the “god” of this world has blinded many of the people he is trying to reach. His answer to us...through it all Jesus is the light that breaks forth out of the Darkness.

    Being Transformed

Chapter three of 2 Corinthians has three major sections. The first surround the validation of Paul and his ministry. In the second section, the apostle is concerned with the boldness of how ministry should be presented. The last section deals with the transforming power the Holy Spirit has in the life of the believer. Paul states his confidence is based on the fact that God himself makes his servants competent to carry out the tasks He assigns to them.
