S2E20: You Know What to Do. So Why Aren’t You Doing It?

Most of us already know at least one thing that would make our lives better. We know the workout would help. We know the budget matters. We know we should eat better. We know we should have the conversation. We know we should keep the promise. So why don’t we do it? In this episode of Cheese Curds & Coffee, Katie and Allen talk about the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it when the moment arrives. Katie shares a workout she had planned all week — one with rope climbs, bench press, and heavy sandbag cleans — and how she hit the point where she wanted to stop. She had the knowledge. She had the skill. She had coached other athletes through the same workout. But in the middle of it, the emotion still showed up. Instead of quitting, she paused, adjusted the workout, lowered the sandbag weight, and finished with nine seconds left. Allen shares his own version of the same struggle: cutting the grass. After a long morning workout and run-walk, he did not feel like doing it. The rationalizations started immediately. Maybe it could wait. Maybe the HOA would not notice. Maybe he could do it Monday. Maybe it did not matter. But the grass was not really the issue. The promise was. This conversation became the center of the episode: discipline does not mean the argument disappears. It means the argument does not automatically get the final vote. Katie and Allen also talk about Allen’s trip to an AI summit in Dallas, asking a question in a room where he felt out of place, making a lower-agency food decision with three pieces of red velvet cake, and using a delayed flight with no Wi-Fi, no AI, and no charging ports as an opportunity to work on the dream. The theme running through all of it is simple: A feeling can be real without becoming the instruction. “I don’t feel like it” may be true. But that does not mean it gets to decide. In this episode, we talk about: Why knowing what to do is not enoughWhy “I don’t feel like it” is often the moment that mattersHow Katie finished a workout she wanted to quitWhy Allen’s lawn story became a lesson in keeping promisesHow emotions can become instructions if we do not pauseWhy discipline still includes internal argumentsWhat it means to practice higher-agency decision-makingHow to pause before reactingWhy companies, social media, and marketing often push us toward emotional decisionsHow small promises create evidence that we can changeThis week’s challenge: Think of one thing you already told yourself you were going to do. A workout. A budget. A conversation. A household task. A food choice. A promise to yourself or someone else. When the moment arrives and an emotion shows up — “I don’t feel like it,” “I’m too tired,” “It doesn’t matter,” or “I’ll do it tomorrow” — pause. Ask: What am I feeling? Is this feeling useful information or am I letting it become the instruction? What small action can I take that moves me toward the person I said I wanted to become? You do not need to fix your whole life this week. Just pause once. Make one intentional choice. Keep one meaningful promise. Collect the proof. 🎙️ Thanks for listening to Cheese Curds & Coffee! S2E19: The Week the Plan Got Messy

Life got messy this week. We went over budget. We blew through macros. A meaningful Disney day with friends cost more than planned. Allen ate too much trail mix and paid for it. The podcast and YouTube launch got harder than expected. Video editing did not work right. Sleep got cut short. Allen wanted to skip a workout. And somehow, the week still had joy, gratitude, progress, training, community, and momentum. In this episode of Cheese Curds & Coffee, Katie and Allen talk about how to keep promises to yourself when life does not go according to plan. Because a perfect week does not build self-trust. A messy week where you keep returning does. This episode is about the stories we tell ourselves when the plan breaks. The danger is not always the miss. The danger is what we make the miss mean. One missed budget does not mean you are bad with money. One blown macro day does not mean you have no discipline. One hard morning does not mean you should quit. One messy week does not mean you failed. The real question is: Can you return faster? Katie and Allen talk through the June budget miss, the difference between a meaningful choice and drifting, the cost of a Disney day that was still worth it, and what conversations with friends going through hard life changes reminded them about the life they have built together. Allen also shares what happened when the new editing tool failed, sleep got cut short, and he wanted to skip his workout. Instead of quitting on the day, he worked through the list, moved his body, and eventually shifted from the gap to the gain. This episode is for anyone trying to stay consistent in real life. Not perfect life. Real life. The kind with budgets, macros, family days, software problems, bad sleep, gym expenses, stomach problems, big dreams, and small promises. In this episode, we talk about: What happened when we missed our June spending goalWhy a budget should tell the truth, not create shameHow to tell the difference between drifting and making a meaningful choiceWhy one miss can feel like identity evidenceHow to avoid turning one bad day into a full resetWhy grace and honesty both matterHow Allen moved from the gap to the gain during a hard morningWhat it felt like to finally post the first new podcast episodeWhy self-trust is built by returning, not by being perfectHow to keep one small promise when life gets messyThis week’s challenge: Pick one area where life got messy. Money. Food. Fitness. Sleep. Work. Marriage. Content. Business. Then ask yourself: What actually happened? What story am I telling myself about it?What is one small promise I can keep today? How can I return faster than last time? You do not need a perfect week to keep becoming the person you want to be. You need one honest reset. One small promise. And a faster return. Enjoy the life you have. Build the life you want. 🎙️ Thanks for listening to Cheese Curds & Coffee! S2E18: Stop Waiting. Start Building.

What are you waiting for? In this episode of Cheese Curds & Coffee, Katie and Allen talk about what it means to stop waiting and start building your life — before the plan is perfect, before you feel ready, and before you know exactly how everything will work. This week, Katie hosted a Pride workout at CrossFit Mousetrap, and nearly 40 people showed up. Members, strangers, drop-ins, and friends came together for something bigger than a workout. There were hugs. There were thank-yous. There were people who walked in and felt like they belonged. At the same time, Allen was working on the new YouTube channel, relaunching the podcast, preparing for a speaking opportunity, and realizing that the dream does not get clearer by waiting. It gets clearer when you move. This episode is about community, courage, marriage, leadership, starting before you feel ready, and building a life that feels meaningful now — not someday. The new Cheese Curds & Coffee tagline is: Enjoy the life you have. Build the life you want. That line became the center of this conversation. Because enjoying your life does not mean you stop growing. And building the life you want does not mean hating the life you already have. Katie’s Pride workout reminded us that sometimes the life you are trying to build is already showing up in small ways. The workout was not just about fitness. It was about belonging. It was about people feeling seen. It was about creating a room where people could walk in, move their bodies, be themselves, and feel like they were part of something. Allen’s week brought a different kind of realization. He was working through the new YouTube channel, thinking about the future of the podcast, preparing for a speaking opportunity, and feeling the tension of time. At 47, almost 48, there is still time — but not unlimited time. That thought did not feel sad. It felt motivating. The question became simple: What are we waiting for? Waiting until we feel ready? Waiting until the plan is perfect? Waiting until the first version is polished? Waiting until we are less afraid? Waiting until someone gives us permission? At some point, the dream does not need more waiting. It needs one visible step. In this episode, we talk about: Why people wait to start building the life they wantWhat Katie’s Pride workout revealed about community and belongingWhy building something meaningful often looks ordinary while it is happeningHow coaching, programming, cleaning up, fixing things, and showing up all become part of building something realHow Allen is thinking about time, purpose, and showing up consistentlyWhy the first version does not have to be perfectWhy the dream gets clearer when you moveHow to stop waiting and take one visible stepWhat it means to enjoy the life you have while building the life you wantWe also talk about the tension between gratitude and ambition. If you only enjoy the life you have, you can drift. If you only build the life you want, you can miss the life you already have. The goal is both. Enjoy the life you have. Build the life you want. For Katie and Allen, that means appreciating the gym community, the marriage, the workouts, the conversations, the ordinary moments, and the life already in front of them — while also building toward the next version: a stronger show, a bigger community, and a platform that helps people build better lives with more intention. This episode is for anyone who has been waiting to start. Waiting to post. Waiting to speak. Waiting to train. Waiting to change. Waiting to build. Waiting to become the kind of person who finally does the thing. You do not need the whole plan. You need the next honest step. This week’s challenge: Write down one thing you want to enjoy more fully. Write down one thing you want to build more intentionally. Then take one visible step before you feel ready. Because sometimes the life you want starts showing up in the life you already have. #StopWaiting #StartBuilding #BuildTheLifeYouWant #EnjoyTheLifeYouHave #PersonalGrowth #SelfImprovement #IntentionalLiving #MarriagePodcast #FitnessPodcast #CrossFitCommunity #Community #CheeseCurdsAndCoffee 🎙️ Thanks for listening to Cheese Curds & Coffee! Why Missing the Goal Doesn’t Mean You Failed

Katie didn’t win her competition. Allen trained for 8 weeks to hit his 5K goal and missed it by 2 seconds. But does missing the goal mean you failed? In this episode of Cheese Curds & Coffee, Allen and Katie return after a 6-month break for Season 2, Episode 17 of the podcast. This is also the beginning of a new chapter for the show as they restart the conversation around fitness, marriage, personal growth, money, business, community, and building a life in real time. The cold open says it best: “You never really fail as long as you can learn something.” This week gave Allen and Katie two very real examples of coming up short. Katie finished a competition and did not walk away with the win. But inside the disappointment were signs of progress: handstand push-ups, a run that surprised her, and evidence that her fitness is still moving forward even when the leaderboard does not tell the whole story. Allen tested his 5K after 8 weeks of training and missed his goal by 2 seconds. That could have easily become a failure story. But the week also included the effort, the sunrise, the walk back, the Gatorades, the training, and the reminder that progress is not always measured by the final result. This episode is about missing a goal without missing the lesson. Sometimes the scoreboard says you missed. Sometimes the clock says you came up short. Sometimes the leaderboard says you did not win. Sometimes the outcome does not match the effort. But your body, your habits, your mindset, your effort, your consistency, your marriage, your discipline, and your next decision may all be telling a different story. In this episode, Allen and Katie talk honestly about disappointment, fitness goals, competition, running, CrossFit, mindset, consistency, personal growth, and how to keep going after a near miss. This is not a conversation about pretending the result does not matter. Goals matter. Winning matters. Times matter. Effort matters. But the result is not the only thing that counts. Katie shares what she learned from competing, not winning, and still finding moments that proved the work is working. Allen shares what it felt like to train for 8 weeks, test his 5K, and miss his goal by 2 seconds — and how he chose to tell himself a better story about the effort. Together, they explore a question almost everyone has faced: What do you do when you worked hard and still did not get the result you wanted? Do you call the whole thing a failure? Do you erase the effort? Do you quit? Or do you look for the evidence that the work still counted? This episode is for anyone working toward a goal, trying to stay consistent, starting over, training for something, building confidence, or learning how to separate disappointment from failure. It is for the person who missed the number on the scale. It is for the person who did not hit the time they wanted. It is for the person who lost the competition. It is for the person who fell short on a habit. It is for the person who is trying to become healthier, stronger, more disciplined, more confident, or more consistent — and needs to remember that one missed goal does not erase the work. In this episode, we talk about: Why missing the goal does not mean you failedHow to keep going after disappointmentKatie’s competition recap and what she learned from not winningAllen’s 5K test after 8 weeks of trainingWhat it feels like to miss a goal by 2 secondsHow to separate disappointment from failureWhy the leaderboard does not tell the whole storyHow fitness goals reveal who you are becomingWhat to do when the result does not match the effortHow to keep going after a near missWhy progress is not always obvious in the momentHow to find evidence that the work is still workingWhy one missed goal should not erase weeks of effortHow to use disappointment as feedback instead of proof that you should quitWhy consistency matters more than one resultHow marriage, fitness, and personal growth all connectWhy the next decision matters more than the last outcomeThe bigger lesson: You can miss the goal and still be making progress. You can be disappointed and still be proud. You can fall short and still be becoming the person you want to be. You can learn from the miss instead of letting the miss define you. This episode also introduces the renewed direction for Cheese Curds & Coffee. The show is a weekly running journal with Allen and Katie — part real-life recap, part classroom, part coaching conversation. They are not teaching from the mountaintop. They are learning from the middle of the climb. Each week, they talk about what happened in their actual life, what it revealed, and how the lesson can help listeners build stronger bodies, clearer minds, better relationships, more financial peace, and a more intentional life. The new tagline: Enjoy the life you have. Build the life you want. That is the heart of the show. It is not about waiting until life is perfect before you enjoy it. It is not about chasing goals so hard that you miss the life you already built. And it is not about pretending growth does not matter. It is about learning how to live in the tension between gratitude and ambition. You can enjoy the life you have and still build the life you want. You can be thankful for where you are and still take the next step. You can miss a goal and still keep going. Weekly Challenge: Think of one goal you recently missed. Before you call it a failure, write down three pieces of evidence that the work still counted. Ask yourself: What improved? What did I learn? Where did I show up differently? What did this reveal? What am I ready to try again? What is the next rep? Then choose one next action. Not a full life overhaul. Not a shame spiral. Not starting over from zero. Just the next rep. Because missing the goal does not mean you failed. It might be the moment that teaches you how to keep going. Eating With Awareness – What Tracking Taught Us About Ourselves

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 16, we explore tracking as a tool for awareness, not control. Most people think logging meals means restriction, obsessing, or losing freedom—but tracking can actually give your freedom back. Awareness is what transforms your relationship with food, and this episode shows how clarity, not discipline, leads to consistent, empowered choices. Allen and I share our first honest experiences tracking food. I thought I was eating healthy—but logging revealed under-fueling, emotional snacking, and tiny meals that left me tired and frustrated. Allen realized he wasn’t eating enough to support energy, performance, or mood. Tracking didn’t shame us—it revealed the truth and gave us power to make aligned choices. We explore why people avoid tracking, from fear of what it might reveal to diet culture messages that make calories feel moral—“good” or “bad.” Tracking isn’t judgment; it’s information. Just like checking your bank account, it’s better to know the truth than guess. Without awareness, habits remain invisible, and motivation alone can’t sustain results. We dive into the lessons tracking teaches about awareness over emotion. Many food choices are emotional—stress, boredom, reward—rather than hunger. Tracking revealed patterns that allowed us to understand our body, stabilize energy, improve performance, and recognize true hunger cues. Awareness, not punishment, became the foundation for consistent habits. We discuss the power of eliminating guesswork. Decisions became intentional instead of random. Tracking lets you see which meals fuel your energy, which leave you hungry, and how emotions affect choices. This allows you to create aligned, sustainable patterns rather than relying on willpower or restrictive rules. Finally, tracking is a temporary education, not a forever rule. It teaches awareness, builds self-trust, and shows patterns. Once you know your body, you don’t stop making informed decisions—you just don’t need to track constantly anymore. 🎧 Listen to Episode 16 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to see how awareness transforms habits, fuels your Future Self, and makes consistent nutrition effortless. 💬 Comment: What’s one habit tracking has helped you see about yourself? Design Your Fuel Rhythm: Why Systems Beat Willpower Every Time

Episode 15: Design Your Fuel Rhythm – Why Systems Beat Willpower Every Time Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 15, we tackle why willpower alone doesn’t work and how designing a consistent, intentional fuel rhythm can make healthy eating effortless, stabilize your energy, and eliminate decision fatigue. Most people think they need more discipline, more motivation, or more grit—but the truth is, the people who stay consistent aren’t necessarily more disciplined—they just have better systems. A well-designed fuel rhythm turns tough choices into automatic actions, so you stop negotiating with cravings, guessing what to eat, or restarting every Monday. Consistency becomes natural because the structure supports your life, not restricts it. We start by defining what a fuel rhythm is: a simple, life-aligned pattern of eating that accounts for workouts, work schedules, travel, and recovery. When your meals are structured around your life, you stop wasting energy on constant decisions about what, when, or how to eat. Allen shares how building a rhythm stabilized his energy and improved every part of his day—from workouts to work to leadership—and I share how my competition prep became manageable and mentally sustainable thanks to structure, not punishment. Next, we dive into decision fatigue—the hidden reason so many people fall off track. Every day, we make countless small decisions, from breakfast to snacks to late-night cravings. By 3pm, your brain is exhausted, not from work but from constant decision-making. Without a fuel rhythm, it’s easy to overeat, skip meals, or feel out of control. A rhythm removes the guesswork and allows your body and mind to trust the process. We also tackle structure as freedom, not restriction. When your meals and nutrition choices are intentional, you free up mental space, reduce stress, and stop negotiating with yourself. Structure doesn’t limit; it protects your energy, mood, and focus. Allen and I share real-life stories of how creating patterns around training, busy workdays, travel, and rest days transformed consistency from a struggle into a lifestyle. Episode 15 also calls out the cultural lies that make nutrition harder than it needs to be: work culture glorifies skipping meals, weekend culture promotes overindulgence, and fitness culture pushes rigid approaches that rarely survive real life. The solution? Design your environment and systems, not rely on fleeting willpower. Finally, we explore what a fuel rhythm actually looks like (without teaching the course). It’s not about a strict meal plan, counting macros, or tracking forever—it’s about patterns that match your life. From timing carbs on training days, creating protein anchors during busy workdays, colorful micronutrient meals on rest days, pre-decisions for travel, to evening routines that prevent overeating—these patterns make consistency feel easy and automatic. 🎧 Listen to Episode 15 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to learn how to stop struggling with nutrition, reduce decision fatigue, and create a system that supports your energy, performance, and long-term habits. Systems beat willpower every time, and this episode shows you exactly why. 💬 Comment or share: What’s one part of your day where a system could make choices easier? Reasons Over Rules – Why Most Diets Fail and How Your Why Changes Everything

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 14, we tackle why most diets fail and how understanding your “why” can completely change your results. Motivation and willpower fade. Rules and restriction don’t last. The key to building habits that stick is connecting your choices to your identity, your purpose, and your reasons. Allen and I open by exploring why diets often fail. Meal plans, “good vs. bad” foods, and strict rules ignore the emotional, mental, and lifestyle factors that shape behavior. Without understanding the reasons behind your choices, consistency becomes a struggle, and motivation disappears when life gets stressful. True change requires alignment, not rigidity. Next, we discuss the evolution of your why. Early motivations—like chasing vanity or a number on the scale—are fragile and easily derailed by real-life challenges. Over time, our reasons shifted to energy, confidence, peace, and freedom. When your why is deep, emotional, and tied to your identity, it supports habits that survive stress, setbacks, and life’s curveballs. We then introduce the Reason List, a simple but powerful tool from our SUCCESS Framework: Nutrition Edition course. Writing down the reasons behind your choices—beyond looks or short-term goals—creates emotional anchors that pull you forward when motivation fades. Allen shares how freedom and longevity became his anchors; I share how building the woman I want to become kept me consistent, even during tough competition prep. When your reasons are bigger than temptation, consistency becomes self-respect, not struggle. Episode 14 also highlights real-life “why” moments, showing how deeply personal motivations translate into action. Whether it’s getting out of bed early, showing up for a tough workout, or making better nutrition choices, your reasons make the difference. These stories illustrate that knowledge alone isn’t enough—alignment between your actions and identity is what builds sustainable habits. Finally, we close by emphasizing that reasons last longer than rules. Rules fade. Motivation fades. But when your choices are tied to a meaningful why, consistency comes naturally. This episode sets the stage for next week, where we’ll discuss why restriction triggers rebellion and how to design systems that prevent the cycle of starting over every Monday. 🎧 Listen to Episode 14 of Cheese Curds & Coffee for a reflective, actionable conversation about building habits that last, understanding your why, and aligning your choices with the person you want to become. 💬 Comment or share: What’s one reason that keeps you moving toward your goals, even when motivation fades? Fueling the Future You

Episode 13: Fueling the Future You Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 13, we move from awareness to action and explore how intentionally fueling your body transforms not just how you look, but how you feel, perform, and live. This isn’t another diet episode—it’s about using food as fuel, building awareness around your choices, and connecting what you eat to the person you’re becoming. We start by exploring the shift from noticing patterns to taking action. Allen and I share how awareness became the bridge between mindset and movement. Once we understood why we made certain choices, we were able to steer our behaviors intentionally, creating habits that align with our Future Self. I realized that my Future Self eats to fuel performance and recovery, not to punish herself or chase perfection. Allen shares how tracking meals and treating food as data instead of a test empowered him to make better decisions without guilt. Next, we discuss food as fuel, not punishment. We unpack the cultural messages that convince us to fear carbs, skip meals, or treat eating like a moral test. When you see protein, carbs, and fats as tools rather than temptations, nutrition becomes empowering instead of stressful. Shifting from restriction to intention allows energy, confidence, and performance to flourish. We also introduce the power of the pause, a simple but transformative practice that creates space between impulse and action. Whether it’s deciding what to eat or how to respond in life and business, pausing allows us to act from awareness rather than autopilot. This three-minute window builds mental resilience, reduces regret, and strengthens self-respect. Another key concept we cover is Reasons Over Rules. Instead of relying on rigid rules or external discipline, we anchor our choices in meaningful reasons—values that reflect the Future Self we’re becoming. When your reasons are emotional, personal, and connected to your vision, consistency comes naturally. My reason evolved from “I want to look fit” to “I want energy, confidence, and peace”—a shift from appearance to momentum and identity. Finally, we explore rhythm and structure in your nutrition. Designing a “fuel rhythm” around your week—like mapping meals alongside workouts or work commitments—reduces decision fatigue, creates automatic healthy choices, and provides freedom, not restriction. By building these systems, eating with intention becomes natural and sustainable. Throughout the episode, we emphasize that fueling your future self isn’t about perfection. Each meal, snack, and decision is an opportunity to reinforce the person you’re becoming. Start small, act with awareness, and use food as evidence of your commitment to your Future Self. 🎧 Listen to Episode 13 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to learn practical strategies, mindset shifts, and systems for fueling your life with intention, purpose, and alignment.
