Episode 34: Closing the gap between knowing and doing with Courtney Nightingale

Parenting toddlers and young children often feels like an endless cycle of consuming advice online only to completely lose your cool when a meltdown hits. You read the books, save the social media reels, and promise to do better, but when sleep deprivation and toddler resistance collide, intellect goes out the window. In this episode, classroom teacher of over fifteen years, parenting educator, and master NLP practitioner Courtney Nightingale joins me to break down why knowing what to do in parenting rarely translates to doing it. She explains how early childhood imprints create the subconscious triggers that drive our reactions and why strategies fail if you do not address your own unresolved stress first. I talk with Courtney about the flaws in modern gentle parenting narratives, how to set firm boundaries without becoming mean or weak, and why clear communication requires fewer words and better follow-through. She also shares practical advice on screen time, handling fussy eating, and simple tools to interrupt automatic stress responses in your home. What you'll learn in this episode How Courtney transitioned from classroom behavioral support to parent coaching and NLP practitioner work. Why parenting strategies fail when applied on top of unresolved emotional triggers. How childhood imprints formed between ages zero and seven shape your emotional reactions to your kids. The Circle of Security concept of staying bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind as an adult. Why certain gentle parenting interpretations lead to permissive habits that leave children feeling unsafe. The five-words-or-less communication rule to stop repeating yourself and enforce follow-through. How screen time impacts children's focus, behavior, and nervous system regulation. Practical steps for managing fussy eaters using the division of responsibility and a no-thank-you bowl. How to use the rubber band technique to handle conflict without forcing immediate resolution. Episode 33: 10 years of Empower House

Ten years ago, I started Empower House out of pure desperation after leaving careers in finance and collision repair. Every job application I sent out was met with complete crickets. Instead of waiting around for permission or a job offer, I backed myself, took the leap, and built my own business from scratch. A decade later, that scrappy hustle has evolved into a business model that supports total freedom, overseas travel, and raising twin girls on my own terms. Over the last ten years, I built The Brunch Club into an eight-year community running over 80 live events, sold more than 1,500 tickets, raised tens of thousands for charity, and helped female founders step onto stages that launched their careers. From managing multi-million dollar panel shops in my mid-20s to turning around a family business profit margin from 12.5% to 30% and selling it in a single weekend, my biggest takeaway is that clear systems, knowing your market, and solid execution beat guesswork every time. In this special anniversary episode, I reflect on the key milestones, hard business lessons, and tactical decisions that shaped the last decade. I share why award applications require real numbers instead of vague claims, how to design operations that suit your life, and why there has never been a better time for women to take control of their financial future. What you'll learn in this episode The real story behind starting Empower House after facing absolute job search crickets. How managing multi-million dollar smash repair shops in my 20s built my operational foundation. The exact steps I used to lift a business profit margin from 12.5% to 30% and sell it in 24 hours. Why documenting processes was the key to securing major corporate contracts like Toyota Insurance. How I grew The Brunch Club to 80+ events, 1,500 tickets sold, and tens of thousands raised for charity. Why applying for business awards requires hard numerical data instead of generic claims. The reality of running a business through major life changes, world travel, and twin toddlers. How to stop playing small, back your own ideas, and design a business that prioritises freedom. Episode 32: Selling how they feel with Isabella Loneragan

Many service providers fall into the trap of thinking business growth requires buying the latest high-tech equipment or expanding their menu to offer everything to everyone. We see business owners taking on heavy equipment debt and spreading themselves thin across dozens of services, hoping a fancy new tool will magically bring in loyal clients. In this episode, dermal therapist, educator, and product formulator Isabella Loneragan shares how she built a thriving multi-clinic business with a three-month waitlist by doing the exact opposite. Drawing on twenty years of experience across dermatology, plastic surgery, and clinic ownership, Isabella explains why clients are stepping away from cold cosmetic procedures and searching for human touch, connection, and nervous system regulation. We talk through the practical steps of radical niching, why client feelings drive long-term retention far better than surface fixes, and how to step into clear authority without relying on six-figure machinery. Isabella also breaks down how to articulate your positioning in one clean sentence so you can command higher rates and attract your ideal audience. What you'll learn in this episode How Isabella built three-month waitlists across her clinics using hands-on treatments instead of expensive machinery. The shift in client demand away from quick cosmetic fixes towards deep nervous system relaxation. Why expanding your service menu dilutes your positioning and inflates backend overheads. How to define your offer in a single sentence so you can charge higher rates. The connection between internal stress, psychology, and physical skin health. Why referring clients out to other health specialists builds authority and long-term trust. How Isabella structured her operations alongside her husband to separate backend logistics from client delivery. Episode 31: Building an AI-Powered business system with Deb Szabo

We start businesses to do the work we love, but we often end up drowning in administrative tasks. Between managing content schedules, organising operational files, and switching contexts throughout the day, solo founders frequently work long hours just to handle basic backend administration. While many business owners have experimented with simple AI tools like ChatGPT for quick ideas, few have built a reliable system that takes actual tasks off their plate. In this episode, AI strategist and Claude specialist Deb Szabo breaks down how to move past surface-level prompts and turn AI into a functional assistant for your operations. Deb explains how documenting your business and brand intelligence allows solo operators to leverage the output of a ten-person team without taking on massive payroll overhead. She shares her practical frameworks for building an AI system that understands your voice, your offers, and your business goals. We discuss how search habits are shifting from simple Google keywords to conversational AI queries, and what that means for your online visibility. Deb also demonstrates how using voice mode for daily brain dumps helps clear mental clutter for busy founders, giving you back the capacity to run your business without constant burnout. Whether you consider yourself non-technical or you are looking to streamline your existing tools, this conversation provides a clear path to buying back your time. What you'll learn in this episode How Deb transitioned 30 years of traditional marketing experience into building practical AI workflows for small businesses. The step-by-step path to move from basic chat prompts to setting up an assistant that executes daily tasks. How building Business DNA and Brand DNA documentation gives AI tools the exact context needed to match your style. Why solo operators can now manage the workload of a larger team without hiring an army of contractors. The shift in online search behaviour and how to structure your content so AI platforms recommend your business. How to use mobile voice dictation for real-time brain dumps while driving or walking to clear mental overload. Building an omnipresent content workflow by creating one core piece of long-form media and distributing it across channels. Why AI is designed to remove tedious administrative tasks so you can focus on direct client relationships. Applying the one percent rule to complete system builds in small daily increments without tech overwhelm. Episode 30: Building business resilience with Heidi Dening

When running a business, we often assume we can plan for every contingency. We build multi-year roadmaps, set revenue goals, and map out our operations, but life has a habit of throwing unexpected disruptions straight into the middle of our plans. From market changes to sudden personal emergencies, remaining adaptable when things fall apart determines whether our business survives or stalls. In this episode, international keynote speaker, author, and resilience expert Heidi Dening joins us to share her story of navigating extreme adversity. Heidi transitioned from high school teaching to building and eventually selling a successful personal training company over 17 years, all while running a charitable foundation in Vanuatu. After surviving a catastrophic cyclone, violent crime, and physical trauma, she had to navigate a long recovery while rebuilding her direction from the ground up. We unpack how to build your capacity for pressure before a crisis hits, why passion projects need the exact same operational systems as primary offers, and how micro-actions help overcome paralyzing fear. Whether you are dealing with burnout or trying to protect your business against future shocks, this conversation offers a clear framework for self-leadership when plans fail. What you'll learn in this episode How Heidi scaled a personal training business from a garage with $200 of secondhand equipment into an enterprise with 15 trainers before selling it on her terms. The operational mistake of neglecting to build standard operating procedures for secondary projects or foundations. Why you must fill your resilience capacity during good times through movement, community, and proper sleep so you have strength when a crisis hits. How to view major business disruptions as choice points rather than the end of your story. Why business owners hold onto original plans too tightly and how to cut ties with old goals to adapt to current realities. The DOT then DAT framework (Do One Thing then Do Another Thing) to break through procrastination and take immediate action. How fear of the unknown stops leaders from taking ownership when plans fail, and practical steps to move past feeling stuck. Using music as a physical state-shifter to break anxiety and regain focus. Heidi's backstage experience with Dylan Alcott in Nashville on overcoming imposter syndrome before addressing 6,500 people. Episode 29: Using live events as a business growth strategy with Christine Corcoran

We often treat networking as an optional extra, something we do only when we have spare time or want a day out of the office. We scroll through social media, battling algorithms and trying to stand out among automated noise, while completely ignoring the fastest way to build trust: putting ourselves in the same room as our ideal clients. It is easy to hide behind a laptop screen and assume our low-ticket digital offers will magically scale our revenue, but real business growth requires a much higher level of proximity. In this episode, high-ticket sales strategist and mindset master coach Christine Corcoran unpacks how to step out of the digital scroll and use live events as a primary lever for growth. Christine shares her journey from corporate sales development to studying neuroscience, revealing why great business strategies fail if your subconscious mind is still running on a scarcity mindset. She explains how your business acts as an objective mirror, reflecting your deepest money blocks and fears about worthiness right back at you. We dive into the mechanics of pricing services properly, the reality of underpricing, and why creating or attending events is a powerful sales strategy rather than just an expensive line item. Whether you want to overcome imposter syndrome when walking into big networking rooms or you are ready to launch your very first workshop, this conversation gives you the exact blueprint to back yourself and step into higher ticket sales. What you'll learn in this episode How Christine transitioned from corporate business development to neuroscience after realising clients failed to execute strategies due to internal mindset blocks. The reason your business functions as an objective mirror for your insecurities, identity beliefs, and childhood money patterns. How to use the grocery bill test to define whether your offering qualifies as high ticket and why you must stop pricing from your own financial threshold. The specific change work modalities used to rewire limiting beliefs, including neuro-linguistic programming, hypnosis, and behaviour tools. Why evaluating your current network is necessary to ensure you are surrounding yourself with expanders who challenge what you believe is possible. The true origin of the Unstoppable Women event and how it addresses tall poppy syndrome and the lack mindset in Australia. Actionable networking strategies for introverts, including the pre-connect checkbox system to avoid walking into rooms alone. How to turn casual event connections into high-ticket clients by prioritising relationship building over immediate sales pitching. Common event launch mistakes, from using vague names that cause prospects to scroll past, to wasting budget on pretty inclusions instead of tangible outcomes. How to manage your mindset when ticket sales are slow during the final weeks of a promotional campaign. Designing a tiered ticket pricing strategy that supports your venue payment schedule and cash flow requirements. Episode 27: Using AI to Scale Your Business with Amber Hills

We are told constantly that to scale a business, we have to keep up with every single piece of new technology or risk getting left entirely behind. Social media feeds are completely flooded with self-proclaimed gurus shouting about the latest software, new tools, and complex systems. It creates an overwhelming amount of noise that leaves most business owners feeling completely frozen, exhausted, and stuck in a state of tech-induced chaos. We end up collecting monthly subscriptions like badges of honor, automating things that are fundamentally broken, and burning ourselves out trying to manage the very tools that were supposed to give us our time back. In this episode, we are cutting through the shiny-object distraction to look at what it actually means to integrate smart technology into your business without losing your mind or your humanity. We are joined by Amber Hills, a two-time founder, AI agency owner, former psychologist, and twin mum. Amber has helped Australian businesses scale to more than $40 million in revenue, personally driving $25 million in sales through a powerhouse combination of sales psychology, operational strategy, and intentional business system design. We talk about the massive shift from clinical psychology into coding and advanced artificial intelligence, why your automation will completely fail if your basic processes are messy, and how to use voice notes and data to build an operating system that reflects your exact brand voice. Amber shares an unfiltered look at why you need to aggressively audit your current tech subscriptions, how to introduce smart systems to your clients using genuine storytelling, and how she balances building cutting-edge software with raising twins. What you'll learn in this episode The Psychology-to-AI Pivot: How Amber transitioned from working as a psychologist to analyzing business data, spotting operational bottlenecks, and writing code. Automating Broken Processes: Why automating an operation that does not already have solid data or clean feedback loops will cause your automated systems to go completely rogue. The Concept of the AI Operating System: What a true second brain looks like for a business, and why a custom framework is required to scale from six to seven figures without creating major bottlenecks. Priming Your Clients for Tech: How to use strategic sales psychology and positive, reinforcing storytelling to introduce automated elements to your clients without sacrificing the human connection they crave. The Subscription Mindset Shift: Why you need to break the habit of maintaining permanent software subscriptions and learn to ruthlessly unsubscribe from tools when you aren't actively utilizing their tokens. Reverse-Engineering the Client Experience: A look at how Amber stripped back a voice-tech business model, shifted the target audience from a long-nurture pipeline to high-intent service providers like plumbers and removalists, and achieved immediate scalability. Cutting Through the Tech Noise to Avoid Burnout: Why trying to automate everything overnight is a fast track to exhaustion, and how focusing on a single, isolated bottleneck protects your long-term wellbeing.
