🤖 EVEN THE PEOPLE BUILDING AI WANT TO SLOW IT DOWN. WHAT DO THEY KNOW THAT WE DON’T?

AI Leaders Want to Slow Down AI: Why Sam Altman, Dario Amodei & Others Are Hitting the Brakes Episode Description: Something extraordinary is happening in artificial intelligence. Some of the very people racing to build the world’s most powerful AI systems are now saying the race may be moving too fast. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called for pacing frontier AI development, and leaders including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis and Elon Musk have expressed support for greater caution or coordination. So what do they know that the rest of us don’t? Dominique and Erica explore the real risks, the politics, America’s competition with China, concerns about AI agents, the possibility that regulation could also benefit today’s AI giants, and a fascinating historical parallel from the 1975 Asilomar conference when scientists voluntarily slowed groundbreaking DNA research until safety standards could catch up. Most importantly, this isn’t an episode about fearing AI. It’s about asking whether humanity can develop wisdom as quickly as it develops intelligence. Today’s tea: Chamomile, ginger and honey. Key Question: If the people building the fastest AI systems are suddenly asking for better brakes, shouldn’t the rest of us at least ask why? 🎵 Music Credit: Original music © 2026 Santa Barbara Wellness Center, Inc. Should Kids Be Banned From AI? America’s Largest School System Just Said Not Yet (280)

Should kids be using ChatGPT and other generative AI in school, or should they first learn how to think without it? New York City Public Schools, the largest school system in the country, has announced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI for younger students, affecting nearly 600,000 children. Dominique and Erica dive into the debate over AI in schools, kids and AI, screen time, critical thinking, ChatGPT students and AI literacy. Is AI simply the next calculator? Or are children beginning to outsource thinking before they’ve built the skills they need to recognize when AI is wrong? D&E look at both sides, including the promise of AI tutoring, the dangers of overreliance, reduced screen-time recommendations and a simple way parents can teach children to use AI as a tool rather than a replacement for thinking. And Erica brings it home with the sports analogy: AI can be the coach. But AI shouldn’t become the player. 🫖 What do you think? At what age should children begin using generative AI? HOMEWORK: This week, if a child or teenager in your life uses AI, ask them: “Show me how you used it.” Then ask: What did you already know? What did AI add? How do you know the answer is right? 🫖 ARE AMERICAN FARMERS AND RANCHERS FINALLY GETTING A SEAT AT THE TABLE? (270)

Could major changes be coming for American farmers and ranchers? In this episode of Spill the Tea with D&E, Dominique and Erica break down new federal actions involving American ranchers, meat processing competition, beef prices, regenerative agriculture, local food and the MAHA agenda. We look at what these changes could mean for smaller ranchers, regional meat processors, grazing access, farm-to-school programs and the future of America’s food system. CHEMTRAILS: WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING IN OUR SKIES? (278)

What are those lingering trails behind aircraft, and why has the debate over “chemtrails,” contrails, weather modification, and geoengineering refused to disappear? In this episode of Spill the Tea with D&E, Dominique and Erica look at former U.S. Air Force environmental specialist Kristen Meghan Kelly, her whistleblower claims, the science of persistent contrails, and the very real public debate surrounding geoengineering and weather modification. The EPA says ordinary aircraft contrails are not evidence of secret chemical spraying and states that large-scale solar geoengineering is not currently being deployed by commercial aircraft. At the same time, geoengineering itself is a genuine field of research and public policy discussion. (US EPA) So where does documented science end, where do whistleblower allegations begin, and what questions are still worth asking? 🎧 Listen as we spill the tea and separate what is documented, what is claimed, and what remains debated. #Chemtrails, #Contrails, #Geoengineering, #WeatherModification, #KristenMeghan, #ClimateEngineering, #AirForceWhistleblower, #StratosphericAerosols, #SpillTheTeaWithDE, #Podcast Music copyrighted by Santa Barbara Wellness Center Inc. 2026 🌿🍵 The Last Sip 🍵🌿 Before we put the kettle away and head back into the adventure of everyday life, we’d like to leave you with one final thought: Wellness isn’t something you buy. THE GREAT HANG-UP Why People Are Starting to Leave Their Phones Behind (276)

Are people finally starting to break up with their phones? A growing number of Americans are deliberately cutting back on smartphone use, putting their phones in another room, turning them off, and even leaving them behind for walks, meals, and social time. New Pew Research Center data released September 1, 2026 found that 53% of U.S. adults say they spend too much time on their smartphones, and 45% say they have tried to cut back during the past year. In this episode of Spill the Tea with D & E, Dominique and Erica explore the growing phone-free and digital-detox trend, what happens when we physically separate ourselves from our devices, and why more people are craving quiet, boredom, face-to-face connection, reading, walking, gardening, and simply being present again. Maybe the future is not about giving up technology. Maybe it is about remembering that the phone is supposed to be the tool, not the boss. Caption 📵 Are we finally reaching peak smartphone? People are putting their phones in drawers, turning them off, leaving them home for walks, and creating phone-free meals and gatherings. On today’s Spill the Tea with D & E, we explore the growing movement to disconnect from our phones so we can reconnect with real life. Could you leave your phone at home for a 20-minute walk? YOUR BRAIN ON AUDIOBOOKS (274)

🎧 PODCAST DESCRIPTION Audiobooks vs. reading: does your brain know the difference? D&E dive into neuroscience, memory, comprehension and mind-wandering to discover what really happens when you listen to a book instead of reading one. 🎧📚 DO AUDIOBOOKS REALLY COUNT AS READING? Your ears and your eyes may enter a story differently, but neuroscience shows something fascinating happens once the brain starts processing meaning. On this episode of Spill the Tea with D&E, we explore audiobooks, memory, attention, comprehension and what brain scans reveal about listening versus reading. Tea on. Headphones ready. ☕🧠 🏡 HOMEWORK Listen to 15 minutes of an audiobook with no multitasking whatsoever. Later, listen to another 15 minutes while doing one of your normal activities.
