    Sleep Like Your Ancestors

Picture your ancestor at the end of a long day. The sun drops below the horizon. The light goes soft, then golden, then gone. There is no glowing screen. No overhead bulb burning like a tiny sun in the ceiling. There is a fire, low and warm, and then there is darkness. And in that darkness, the body does exactly what it was designed to do. It winds down. The brain reads the falling light like a signal, releases the hormones that pull you toward rest, and you drift into deep, unbroken sleep under a cold night sky. Your ancestor did not have a sleep problem. Your ancestor had a rhythm, one written into the body over hundreds of thousands of years, tied to the rising and the setting of the sun. Now picture your night. The sun goes down and nothing changes. You flip on every light in the house. You stare into a phone six inches from your face, a little rectangle blasting blue light straight into your eyes, telling your ancient brain that it is still the middle of the day. You eat late. You scroll later. You lie down with your mind still racing about tomorrow, and then you wonder why you toss and turn, why you wake up groggy, why you reach for coffee like it is oxygen. Here is the truth I want you to sit with. Your body is not broken. The blueprint inside you has not changed in tens of thousands of years. We just dropped that ancient machine into a world flooded with artificial light and endless stimulation, and we asked it to sleep well anyway.
