    55. What Makes It Electric? — Greg Miller on Dance, Leadership & Building a Brand

What Makes It Electric? — Greg Miller on Dance, Leadership & Building a Brand Sometimes the most interesting people I meet start out as nothing more than a name on my Uber screen. That’s how I met Greg Miller, founder and Executive Director of Dance Parade New York. Greg got into my car in Philadelphia, we started talking, and—as usually happens with me—I got curious. In this episode of the Electric Pete Podcast, Greg shares how a career in corporate America eventually led him to follow his passion and help create Dance Parade New York. What began with dance advocacy grew into an organization that has spent nearly 20 years bringing people together through dance, education and community. But our conversation went well beyond the parade. Greg and I talked about what it takes to build something from an idea, finding funding, surrounding yourself with the right people, learning to give others ownership, and the challenge founders face when they're used to doing everything themselves. We also talked about the possibility of bringing Dance Parade to Philadelphia—and about some lessons that hit particularly close to home for me as I continue building Electric Pete. One of Greg’s pieces of advice was simple: “Build your brand.” Then he asked a question that stuck with me: “What makes it electric?” His answer? “It’s your energy.” And there was one more lesson that came out of our conversation: follow up. Meeting someone is only the beginning. What you do with that connection afterward is what can turn an ordinary encounter into something much bigger. Greg Miller got into my Uber as a passenger. One conversation led to another. And now you get to hear his story. In this episode: How Greg went from corporate America to Dance ParadeThe origins and growth of Dance Parade New YorkBuilding and funding an organizationLearning to trust people and give them ownershipWhy ordinary conversations can lead to extraordinary opportunitiesThe possibility of Dance Parade PhiladelphiaGreg’s advice to Pete about building the Electric Pete brandWhy following up may be one of the most important lessons of allElectric Pete Podcast Stories, conversations and lessons from the people I meet along the way.

    54. Her Purpose Is People: The Story of Lovey

Her Purpose Is People: The Story of Lovey Sometimes the people you meet unexpectedly are carrying stories you never could have imagined. I met Lovey when she got into my Uber on her way to a recording session. We started talking, and before the ride was over I knew I wanted to hear more of her story — and I wanted other people to hear it too. Lovey is a Philadelphia-area singer and performer whose life is rooted in family, faith and music. In this conversation, she shares her account of a devastating medical crisis, major surgery, cancer, recovery, and the spiritual experience she says changed the way she looks at her life and purpose. But this episode is about much more than survival. Lovey explains how her experience deepened her faith and changed the way she connects with audiences. One of the most powerful realizations she shares is that music itself is not her purpose — people are. Music is simply what gets her in front of them. She also talks about the people who approach her after performances, how she uses her story to encourage others, her return to writing and recording, and why one simple word — “through” — has become such an important part of the way she looks at difficult times. In this episode: Lovey’s musical roots and 30 years of performingHer account of the medical crisis that nearly took her lifeFaith, forgiveness and the experience she says changed everythingBecoming cancer-free and returning to the stageWhy she believes her purpose is peopleHow music can become a form of healing and ministryThe people who have approached her after performancesReturning to songwriting and new musical opportunitiesHer fears of failure and being forgottenWhy she believes if you’ve made it through before, you can make it through againFollow Lovey YouTube: @lyricallovey This is exactly what The People I Meet is becoming — real people, real conversations and stories that may help somebody else see something in their own life. I’m Electric Pete. Keep your ears open. You never know who you’re going to meet.

    48. What Philadelphia Riders Told Me About the Uber & Lyft Tax 🎙️

⚡ ELECTRIC PETE SPECIAL REPORT #1 ⚡ What do Philadelphia riders really think about the proposed Uber and Lyft tax? As an Uber driver, I hear opinions every day from people sitting in my back seat. Rather than guessing what riders thought, I decided to ask them directly. Over the past several months, I collected survey responses from Philadelphia rideshare riders and asked their opinions about the proposed Uber and Lyft tax, affordability, transportation access, and whether their views changed if the revenue supported Philadelphia public schools. In this Special Report, I share: ✅ Survey results from 38 Philadelphia riders ✅ Rider opinions on the proposed rideshare tax ✅ Concerns about affordability and transportation access ✅ Views on public school funding ✅ Real comments from real Philadelphia riders Survey Highlights: • 68% opposed the proposed rideshare tax • 18% supported the proposal • 13% were undecided • Riders expressed concerns about affordability, transportation access, accountability, and public education funding This episode is not about telling people what to think. It's about listening. One thing I've learned after thousands of rides is that every rider has a story—and sometimes those stories reveal how people really feel about issues affecting their city. ⚡ Electric Pete Real People.
