Upset in the Desert: Djokovic Falls Before the Quarters

Send a text The drama in Tennis Paradise continues as the Round of 16 takes center stage at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. In this episode, we break down the biggest storylines from the tournament as the field narrows and the pressure ramps up in the California desert. One of the biggest shocks of the tournament comes with the stunning upset of Novak Djokovic, who fell in a dramatic three-set battle to Jack Draper 4–6, 6–4, 7–6, sending shockwaves through the draw and opening the door for new contenders to make a deep run.  Elsewhere in the men’s draw, Carlos Alcaraz continued his strong run, defeating Casper Ruud to move into the quarterfinals, while Daniil Medvedev also advanced with a solid win over Alex Michelsen.  On the women’s side, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka powered past Naomi Osaka in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals, while Iga Świątek delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, cruising past Karolína Muchová.  Meanwhile, Jessica Pegula kept American hopes alive with a strong win over Belinda Bencic, setting up a quarterfinal clash with Elena Rybakina as the tournament heads toward its final stages.  With the quarterfinals now set and major names still battling for the title, the race for the Indian Wells crown is heating up — and as always in Tennis Paradise, anything can happen. Indian Wells Shake-Up: Fritz Falls & Sabalenka–Osaka Looms

Send a text Days 5–6 Recap — Big Names Fall in the Desert The drama continued to build at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells over Days 5 and 6 as the tournament delivered several major storylines, including surprising exits from a number of American stars. The home crowd saw a difficult stretch on the men’s side with early losses from Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton, both of whom were hoping to make deep runs in front of the American fans. The surprises continued when former Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz was also eliminated, opening up another section of the draw and highlighting just how unpredictable the desert conditions can be. Indian Wells is known for its slower hard courts and swirling winds, and those unique conditions once again played a role in producing unexpected results as the tournament began to take shape. Despite the upsets, several top contenders remain firmly in the title race. Carlos Alcaraz continues to be one of the central figures in the men’s draw as he looks to extend his strong form in Tennis Paradise, while Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev are also positioning themselves for deep runs. On the women’s side, the tournament saw an unfortunate moment when Coco Gauff was forced to retire from her match due to injury, cutting short her run and disappointing fans who were hoping to see the young American star go deep at Indian Wells. Day 7 Look Ahead — A Blockbuster Matchup Looking ahead to Day 7 at the BNP Paribas Open, the spotlight will be firmly on one of the most anticipated matchups of the tournament so far: Aryna Sabalenka taking on Naomi Osaka. This clash brings together two of the most powerful players in the women’s game. Sabalenka enters as one of the tour’s most consistent contenders and a major title threat, while Osaka continues her return to top form and remains one of the sport’s biggest stars on the biggest stages. With both players known for their aggressive baseline games and big serving, the matchup promises to be one of the most exciting battles of the tournament so far — and could have major implications for the women’s draw moving forward. Elsewhere in the draw, fans will continue watching the progress of players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic as the tournament edges closer to the Round of 16. With the stakes rising and the field narrowing, Day 7 promises another compelling chapter in what has already been a dramatic edition of Indian Wells. Around The World in Tennis Pre IW

Send a text 🎾 Tennis Right Now — Vibrant, Dramatic, and Full of Storylines The men’s and women’s tours have been buzzing as the 2026 season shifts into full swing, blending big tournament results, rising storylines, and off-court drama into one of the most compelling phases of the year. 🏆 ATP Tour — Medvedev, Darderi, and the Indian Wells Build-Up Daniil Medvedev enjoyed a strong early season surge, capturing the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships — albeit in unusual fashion as his final opponent withdrew, propelling him to the title and marking his second trophy of the year. His momentum has sparked fresh conversations about his form and resurgence on hard courts after a couple of quieter seasons.  Just behind him in headlines is Luciano Darderi, who’s quietly becoming one of the clay season’s most consistent threats; he added another ATP Tour title in Santiago, further cementing his position as a breakthrough player to watch.  As the tour pivots toward the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, the men’s side is shaping up as a marquee showdown: Carlos Alcaraz enters as the world No. 1 and top seed, extending his flawless start to the season (12-0) and aiming for a third Indian Wells crown — a milestone that would further solidify his status atop the sport. The draw sets up a potentially thrilling clash with long-time rival Jannik Sinner and a looming battle against veteran Novak Djokovic, who remains a factor despite a grueling early season schedule. Alexander Zverev quietly chases his own milestone, aiming to become one of the few players to reach the semifinals at all Masters 1000 events — a stat that highlights the depth of competition at the top. However, global events have also rippled into the tennis world. Ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have disrupted travel logistics for players like Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, delaying their arrival in the United States and forcing them to miss exhibition events in Indian Wells. These complications underscore the challenges of running a global sport amid broader world events.  A HUGE THANK YOU to today's Sponsors PREPLY: ALL IN ONE LANGUAGE LEARNING PLATFORM Preply is an online language learning platform with 32,000+ tutors teaching 50 languages in 180 countries. Welcome to Tennis Paradise: Indian Wells 2026 Begins

Send a text Indian Wells Preview — What to Watch in Tennis Paradise The tennis world heads to the California desert for the BNP Paribas Open, one of the biggest and most prestigious tournaments outside of the Grand Slams. Often called “Tennis Paradise,” Indian Wells delivers massive crowds, dramatic conditions, and two weeks of high-level tennis as the first half of the Sunshine Double begins. 🌟 The Men’s Title Race All eyes will be on Carlos Alcaraz, who arrives in strong form and has historically played some of his best tennis in the desert. His explosive game and ability to thrive in slower conditions make him one of the clear favorites. But the competition is stacked. Jannik Sinner continues to build momentum as one of the most dangerous players on tour, while Novak Djokovic remains a constant threat with his unmatched experience and ability to peak in big events. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev and several other top contenders will be looking to make deep runs and challenge for one of the most coveted Masters 1000 titles of the season. 👑 The Women’s Field On the WTA side, Iga Świątek returns to a tournament where she has historically dominated. The Polish star thrives in these slower hard-court conditions and will be looking to add another Indian Wells trophy to her resume. However, Aryna Sabalenka and the rest of the field are ready to challenge. With big hitters, rising stars, and seasoned champions all in the draw, the women’s tournament could deliver some of the most competitive matches of the event. ⚡ Breakout Players to Watch Indian Wells is also famous for producing surprise runs. With the slower surface and unique desert conditions, players outside the top seeds often find opportunities to break through and make deep runs. Expect a few rising stars to shake up the draw and become the story of the tournament. 🌵 The Desert Factor Conditions in Indian Wells are unlike anywhere else on tour. The desert air, slower courts, and swirling winds can turn matches into physical and tactical battles. Players who adapt quickly and manage the conditions tend to thrive here. 🎾 Why Indian Wells Matters Winning Indian Wells isn’t just another title — it’s considered one of the most prestigious trophies in tennis outside of the Grand Slams. For many players, it sets the tone for the rest of the season as the tour moves toward Miami and eventually the clay-court swing.
