Lindsay Clancy Trial: Guilty, Not Criminally Responsible, or Did Patrick Do It?

Guilty? Not Criminally Responsible? Or Did Patrick Do It? The Lindsay Clancy case has become one of the most debated trials in recent memory. Was Lindsay criminally responsible for killing her three children? Was she experiencing postpartum psychosis that prevented her from understanding the wrongfulness of her actions? And what do we make of the theories about Patrick that have exploded across social media? In this episode, Taylor and Kylie unpack the arguments surrounding the case, the competing psychiatric testimony, and the role social media and true-crime culture have played in shaping public opinion. We also discuss why an internet theory going viral isn't the same thing as evidence. But ultimately, this episode is about something bigger than deciding which “side” you're on. As mothers, we share our own postpartum experiences—the exhaustion, anxiety, hormonal changes, pressure to appear okay, and how little attention can sometimes remain on Mom once the baby arrives. Lindsay's experience was obviously far more severe, and ordinary postpartum struggles should never be equated with postpartum psychosis. But her case raises an uncomfortable question: What happens when a mother actually asks for help? We discuss gaps in postpartum mental-health care, fragmented treatment, educating partners about warning signs, the stigma that can keep mothers from admitting they're having frightening thoughts, and why screening means very little without an effective system waiting on the other side. Three children—Cora, Dawson and Callan—remain at the center of this tragedy. Whatever the legal verdict, this case leaves another question for all of us: What failed—and what are we willing to change?
