She Rises Through It: Self-Leadership, Becoming & Growth for Women in Transition

Cydnie Brown

She Rises Through It is a weekly podcast for women who are navigating the messy middle of growth; where identity shifts, motivation fades, and the next chapter hasn’t fully revealed itself yet. I’m Cydnie Jocelyn, Minnesota-based CEO of The Cydnie Jocelyn Collective, retreat creator, and mentor for women in transition. This podcast is where I speak honestly about becoming in real time, without bypassing the discomfort, the nervous system work, or the real-life responsibilities we’re carrying alongside our growth. Here, we don’t chase quick fixes or perform healing. We build self-leadership, slowly, intentionally, and with integrity. Each episode explores: • self-leadership in seasons of transition and growth • burnout, misalignment, and rebuilding self-trust • identity shifts, becoming, and the space between who you were and who you’re becoming • nervous system regulation and emotional resilience • motherhood, leadership, and capacity-building in real life • the discomfort before expansion and how to lead yourself through it This podcast is for women who are doing the work, parenting, leading, healing, building, while quietly feeling that something in their life is changing. Women who are ready to stop waiting for permission and start trusting themselves again. Alongside the podcast, I host transformational retreats in Minnesota and Costa Rica, offer identity mentorship, and cultivate spaces where women can slow down, regulate their bodies, and reconnect to their inner authority before expanding into what’s next. If you’ve ever felt stuck between who you were and who you’re becoming, this space is for you. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re building self-leadership in the messy middle. Welcome to She Rises Through It.

Top 5 Business Mistakes I Made in My First Year

Have you ever looked back on your first year in business and thought, "If only I had known..."? Starting a business is exciting, but it's also messy. There are no perfect roadmaps, no guarantees, and no way to avoid every mistake. In this solo episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on the five biggest business mistakes I made during my first year as an entrepreneur, so you can learn from my journey instead of repeating it. From quitting my corporate job without a clear plan to listening to everyone else's opinions instead of trusting my own, I share the hard lessons that shaped not only my business but who I am today. We talk about the importance of finding your purpose, building a business that's aligned with your values, surrounding yourself with the right people, and learning when to let go of expectations. I also dive into the practical side of entrepreneurship, including why every small business owner should consult a lawyer early, how to avoid costly business setup mistakes, and why your mindset is just as important as your strategy. If you're a new entrepreneur, small business owner, creative, coach, or someone dreaming of leaving your 9-to-5, this episode is filled with honest business advice, entrepreneurship lessons, and reminders that your mistakes don't define your future. They often become the very foundation you build on. In This Episode, We Talk About: The biggest mistakes I made during my first year of entrepreneurshipWhy listening to everyone else's opinions can keep you stuckThe importance of building a business with purpose, not just profitLegal and business setup mistakes every entrepreneur should avoidHow self-belief, faith, and surrender changed the trajectory of my business My 5 Biggest Business Mistakes: Not having a clear plan  While taking the leap was necessary, I learned that even a simple vision can provide direction during uncertain seasons.Listening to the "peanut gallery"  Family, friends, social media, and outside opinions became louder than my own intuition, causing me to second-guess every decision.Skipping professional legal advice  I relied on advice that wasn't right for my business, which led to unnecessary complications that could have been avoided with the right legal guidance. Not having a defined purpose  I tried saying yes to everything instead of building a business around my mission, values, and the people I truly wanted to serve.Holding too tightly to expectations  I expected success to happen a certain way. Learning to surrender, trust the process, and release control became one of the biggest turning points in my journey. The biggest mistake of all? Not believing in myself. For so long, I questioned my worth, undervalued my work, and wondered if I was capable of building the business I dreamed about. Looking back, I realize that confidence didn't come before taking the leap. It came because I kept showing up, even when I was scared. Whether you're navigating a pivot, moving through your own messy middle, or feeling called to something more, you're not alone. What happens when the career you worked so hard to build no longer feels aligned with the life you want to live? I Finally Hosted My First Retreat! (Proof That Taking the Risk Is Worth It)

And this what happens when you finally stop rushing through life long enough to actually feel it! A year ago, I came to Costa Rica trying to find myself. This time, I returned holding space for 11 women who were also craving clarity, connection, healing, rest, and a chance to reconnect with themselves again. And honestly… can you believe it? Because I still can’t sometimes. A year ago, I was the woman showing up to a retreat needing saving, needing space, needing to breathe again. Now I’m the one helping create that space for others. Watching these women open their hearts, trust complete strangers, and fully immerse themselves in the experience reminded me why retreats are so powerful. There were moments I stood back watching everyone laugh, cry, connect, dance, and just be present, and I kept thinking, “Wow… this is really happening.” Even through the travel chaos, the flat tire, the exhaustion, and all the pivots along the way, it still felt exactly how it was supposed to. This conversation is for anyone navigating the messy middle, feeling burned out, craving deeper connection, or wondering if they should finally take the leap into the thing that’s been sitting on their heart. In This Episode, I Talk About: Hosting my first women’s retreat in Costa RicaWhy slowing down can completely shift your perspectiveLearning to pivot when things don’t go as plannedThe emotional experience of holding space for womenWhy the messy middle can still become something beautifulIf this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who’s navigating their own messy middle or feeling disconnected from themselves lately. Why Your First Year in Business Feels So Hard (And What to Do Next)

What if the pivots in your life and business are not setbacks but the very thing guiding you toward purpose? In this honest solo episode, I share my thoughts just days before flying to Costa Rica to host 11 women on retreat. One year ago, I was there searching for clarity and healing. Now, I’m returning as a retreat host, entrepreneur, and someone who chose to keep going even when things felt uncertain. I open up about the emotional rollercoaster of my first year in business, taking a job that drained me, realizing stability without alignment was costing me too much, and why quitting the wrong path was one of the best decisions I made. I also share how pivots can become the very thing that moves you forward. I also break down my five-phase strategy process for helping brands and women reconnect with who they are, clarify their message, and build something meaningful in a world where authenticity matters more than ever. In This Episode, We Talk About: Why the first year of business can feel messy and uncertainHow burnout can be a sign that something needs to changeWhy quitting the wrong job is not failureHow pivots can lead you closer to purposeWhy you should never give up on what you’re building The 5 Phases I Use to Build Authentic Brands: Phase 1: Brand Audit & Deep DiscoveryPhase 2: Positioning & MessagingPhase 3: Visual Identity & DirectionPhase 4: Website Strategy & Content BlueprintPhase 5: Growth Strategy & Content ThemesYou do not need to have everything figured out. Build a Business That Aligns with Your Calling with Aline Hoss

When everything feels blocked, it might not be resistance. It might be something deeper. This episode almost didn’t happen, and honestly, that’s what makes it even more meaningful. In this conversation, I sit down with Aline Hoss and we go beyond strategy, business tactics, and surface-level success. We talk about surrender, faith, purpose, and what it really looks like to build a business with God at the center. This is for anyone who feels stuck, blocked, or like something is holding them back but can’t quite explain why. Aline Hoss and I talked about:  • What it looks like to truly surrender control in life and business  • Why success, money, and achievement can still feel empty  • Building a business as ministry, not just for income  • How to recognize when resistance is spiritual, not just circumstantial  • Trusting God’s timing instead of forcing your own plans  • Discovering your God-given gifts and actually using them  • Why obedience matters more than having everything figured out If this episode spoke to you, don’t just leave it here. Take a moment today to pause, reflect, and ask yourself what God might be trying to show you in this season. And if you know someone who’s been feeling stuck, blocked, or questioning their direction, send this episode to them. It might be exactly what they need to hear right now. Healing Your Relationship With Health, Food & Fitness with Kayla Freeman

What if your health journey was never meant to be about punishment? In this episode of She Rises Through It, I sit down with Kayla Freeman for a real and honest conversation about women’s health, body image, fitness, hormones, motherhood, and what it actually looks like to pursue wellness in a sustainable way. Kayla shares her personal journey from feeling out of place in traditional fitness spaces to building a lifestyle rooted in strength, consistency, and self-respect, not restriction. We talk about the diets we’ve tried, the pressure women carry around food and body image, and how easy it is to fall into all-or-nothing thinking when it comes to health. We also get into a deeper conversation around hormonal imbalance, cortisol, postpartum health, sleep, inflammation, and peptides, and what it’s looked like for both of us to navigate wellness in real life, especially in seasons of motherhood, stress, and healing. This episode is a reminder that health is not about chasing a smaller version of yourself. It’s about learning how to support the body you live in now, one small choice at a time. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your wellness journey, overwhelmed by all the noise, or frustrated that “doing all the right things” still doesn’t feel like enough, this conversation is for you. About
