No More in November with Lindsay Kana

No More November: Cut One Thing, Make Room for What Matters This time of year we tend to pile on more events, more spending and more yeses. This November, I’m challenging you to do the opposite: pick ONE thing that isn’t serving you anymore and cut it for 30 days. In this episode: Why our brains go to “add” before “subtract,” and the University of Virginia study that shows itWhy a 30-day break works, based on Dry January research (even the people who slipped still saw results)How to use friction instead of willpowerWhat I’m cutting this month: time on my other Instagram accounts. That frees up almost six hours a week for the gym and for getting in front of three new business clients before December 31st.8 questions to find your ONE thing If I got 30 minutes back every day, where are they hiding right now? What do I keep saying yes to out of guilt or habit? What would the version of me who already reached my goal stop doing? What do I always feel worse after? What shows up on my screen time or bank statement that I’d rather not admit? What’s the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night, and does it help me?What am I doing that someone else could do, or that doesn’t need doing at all?If a friend looked at my week, what would she tell me to stop?Pick the one that frees up the most time, money or energy for the goal you care about most, even if it isn’t the easiest. Then make it hard to do, and tell someone. Your turn: Comment or send me a message with your ONE thing, and I’ll check in on you mid-month. RWOB with Dr. Kristi Lee

In this episode of Real Women of Bastrop, Lindsay sits down with Bastrop ISD Superintendent Dr. Kristi Lee for a conversation about leadership, education, growth, and the future of our local schools. Before stepping into education, Dr. Lee spent about a decade in sales and management training in the financial industry and even owned her own business, working primarily with women business owners. She shares what ultimately led her back to the career she originally went to school for, why teaching immediately felt like home, and how the encouragement of others helped move her into leadership. Lindsay and Dr. Lee also talk about what it’s really like to lead a growing school district, the challenge of trying to be everywhere and do everything, and the changes Bastrop ISD has experienced over the last several years. The conversation also breaks down an important topic for local voters: the difference between bond funding and the district’s day-to-day operating revenue, and what the upcoming Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) would mean for Bastrop ISD. Dr. Lee explains how additional operating revenue could be used for areas including teacher and staff compensation, safety initiatives, balancing the budget, and student instructional programming. They close the episode looking ahead five years and talking about Dr. Lee’s vision for BISD: stronger student achievement, high-performing campuses, lower teacher turnover, financial stability, and becoming a district families and educators actively choose.
