Just Beyond Bangkok: A Wooden Sanctuary, a Giant Elephant, and an Ancient City

Looking for things to do just beyond Bangkok? Join "Bangkok Bill" as he explores three extraordinary cultural attractions connected by the vision of one man, Khun Lek Viriyaphant: the Sanctuary of Truth in northern Pattaya, the Erawan Museum, and Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, in Samut Prakan. Discover the intricate wooden carvings and life questions behind the Sanctuary of Truth, step inside the museum beneath a gigantic three-headed elephant, and explore an outdoor collection of temples, palaces, and traditional architecture at the Ancient City - Bill’s strongest recommendation of the three. Along the way, hear how Bill discovered he was born on a Monday, and why that makes yellow his color. Then find out how three friendly Thai ladies recruited him as their golf cart driver on his very first visit to the Ancient City. Movie fans can also add a little detective work by tracking down the setting used for the monastery sequence in The Hangover Part II. Want to work these places into your Thailand itinerary? Bangkok Girl, New York Dreams: Kneet’s Journey to Break Free

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with Kneet, a Thai Sikh-Punjabi singer and songwriter who grew up right here in Bangkok. Raised in a strict family with very clear expectations for her future, Kneet eventually made a decision that would change everything. She went against her parents’ wishes and left Bangkok for New York City. But the dream of New York wasn’t always glamorous. Kneet shares what it was like growing up in Bangkok, the difficult decision to leave home, the struggles she faced after arriving in New York, and how those experiences helped shape the woman, and artist, she is today. We also talk about her music and her new song, “Bangkok to New York,” which brings together the two cities that have played such an important role in her story. This is more than a conversation about becoming a singer. It’s about Thailand, family, cultural expectations, taking risks, finding your own voice, and having the courage to create a life that’s truly yours. Thai Transportation Adventures: Six Ways to Make the Journey Part of the Trip

What’s the best way to travel around Thailand? Sometimes the ride itself makes all the difference. This week, I’m preparing to board an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for the Backpacker’s Rite of Passage Challenge. (more on that in a different episode - stay tuned) But It got me thinking about all the ways I’ve traveled through Thailand - and how different the experience can be from getting around back home in the United States. In this episode, I share six transportation adventures: riding Thai trains, crossing Bangkok on a Grab motorbike, island hopping by longtail boat or ferry, navigating the BTS and MRT, hiring a van for a custom day out, and using buses to reach places beyond the rail lines. I’ll also tell you why I avoid speedboats when I can, and what to check before heading to a Bangkok bus or train station. Whether you’re planning your first Thailand trip or looking for a new way to explore, I hope this episode helps you enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Have a Thailand transportation question about getting around in the land of smiles? Just email me at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. I’d love to answer it. Secret Beaches, Jungle Waterfalls & Naughty Monkeys: Koh Kood

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I’m finally sharing Koh Kood, an island that still feels like the Thailand I imagined 30 years ago. No giant hotel chains dominating the coastline, no crazy nightlife scene, and beaches where you can still wonder, “How does nobody know about this place?” I’ll take you to beautiful Bang Bao Bay and Koh Kood Resort, a place that looks almost exactly like the tropical Thailand I dreamed about before I ever came here. Then we’ll head to The Survival by Seudam and Sunkey Beach, a beach I first discovered on Instagram and one that may genuinely be among the prettiest secret beaches I’ve found anywhere in Thailand. We’ll also jump on a motorbike and explore Koh Kood’s jungle interior, including Klong Chao and Klong Yai Kee waterfalls, talk snorkeling and diving, and cover the things you should know before choosing where to stay on this surprisingly large island. Koh Kood isn’t for everyone. If you want clubs, crowds and nonstop nightlife, this probably isn’t your island. But if you’re searching for beautiful quiet beaches, jungle waterfalls, diving, motorbike adventures and a part of Thailand that still feels wonderfully undiscovered, put Koh Kood on your list. And then there are the dang monkeys! Email me at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. I love hearing from listeners, and your questions often become ideas for future episodes. #ThailandTravel #KohKood #ThailandIslands #ThailandItinerary #ThailandAdventure

She Didn’t Wait: Why Women Are Choosing to Travel Solo with Paula Barnes

What if the only thing standing between you and the trip you’ve been dreaming about is waiting for someone else to go with you? ...Hey, it happened to me. Don't let it happen to you. In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with my friend Paula Barnes, host of the Truly Expat Travel Podcast, to talk about a subject I’m passionate about: traveling solo. I say it all the time on this podcast: "just don’t wait to travel." Don’t wait for the perfect time. Don’t wait until everything in your life lines up. And especially, don’t put off seeing the world because you don’t have someone ready to travel with you. Paula brings her experience and perspective on women’s solo travel to our conversation. We talk about some of the fears and questions women have before taking that first trip alone, what they should really be thinking about, and the freedom that can come from finally deciding, “I’m going.” The link to Paula's Podcast: https://podcast.trulyexpattravel.com/ We also talk about why solo travel doesn’t necessarily mean traveling alone. One of the great things about travel, especially here in Thailand, is how quickly strangers can become new friends. If Thailand has been on your list but something is holding you back, I’d love to hear from you. Send me your questions at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. Tell me what you’re worried about, what you want to experience, or what you need help figuring out. I’m happy to point you in the right direction. And if you want a little inspiration before you go, check out my book, Getting Lost in the Magic of Thailand: Island Hopping Down the Siam Spice Route. It’s about discovering Thailand through experiences, adventure, unexpected moments, and the people you meet along the way.
