Romans 6 - Newness of Life (EP 67)

Look at Romans 6 as your guide to life. Put yourself in the shoes of the person that Paul writes about, and see yourself in the light that God has placed you now that you are a new creation as a believer! Our call is simple: Reckon yourself to be dead indeed unto sin, and alive to Christ. Live seeking to be controlled by Him, and not the flesh - for we have spent enough time in the old ways. The point of our life is to bring Him glory! It is not to invent a meaning for ourselves, or find another way to walk to find innate meaning and purpose. It cannot ever be this, because as creatures created by Him, our only way to satisfaction, joy, and peace is living as He designed us to! When we bear things that tempt us, or go against us, we bring Him more glory than when things go well - because these are truly precious sacrifices we can offer Him. "Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ, and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in." - CS Lewis, Mere Christianity

Fashioning vs. Being Fashioned (EP 66)

1 Peter is a book all about our call to live as our Creator did. Be ye holy, even as I am holy, He says! We are called not to FASHION ourselves according to the former lusts of our ignorance, but what does this mean? How can we live in a way that honors the Lord and leads to our satisfaction and peacefulness? “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭16‬

    The Beatitudes (EP 65)

Beatitude means supreme blessedness. Jesus outlines the ways we can be supremely blessed in Him, they are so beautiful to see—because He came here for the broke, the lost, the hurting, the confused—just because He is in the business of fixing lost people. Matthew 5:1-12: 1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

The Psychology of Sin (EP 64)

Our heart is deceitful, and desperately wicked above all things - and yet we follow it. We inflict more pain and sorrow on ourselves through the sins we commit than anyone else in our lives can do - and we continue on in our wicked ways. BE YE CHANGED! This is Jesus' call to us! "Be ye perfect, even as I am perfect," He says to us. This is not superficial eyewash, as C.S. Lewis points out - rather, it is the only way to truly find life, peace, and meaning. Follow our wicked hearts, and we will find death eternal, and pain and suffering on the way there. Follow Him and find life everlasting, and so much more than we could imagine.
