This podcast is obviously a labor of love—when SDFC does well, Craig, Tony and Alex are genuinely enthusiastic, and when the team struggles, you can hear the frustration underlying their constructive criticism. Just like the team’s fans, these guys care as if the team has been around for decades. We are witnessing one of the most exciting team debuts in soccer history, and San Diego sports history, and having the Chromaniacs along for the ride to break it down in real time makes it all the more apparent. Their analysis is always measured, informed and tempered with humor and a love for the beautiful game. It has also been fun to hear Alex—who is an insightful analyst with more experience as a writer than a broadcaster—become more comfortable on the mic with each episode. His knowledge of players, teams and strategy is an asset, as he learns how to deliver a show from Craig and Tony, his polished broadcast veteran partners. Any fan of the team that wants to have a better understanding of SDFC’s performance on the pitch and in the MLS context should listen—or if you just want to stick around for post-match wrap ups to celebrate or commiserate and reset with the guys, the Chromaniacs are there for you.
