Partnerships That Cook: The Chester & Emmanuel Blueprint (Part 1)

They are funny. They are equally powerful in debates. They banter each other. They hold hands while crossing the road. They are one of the most inspiring debate partnerships we see. This time, the Bin Room Banter sits down with Chester and Emmanuel, the Kenyan duo that clinched the inaugural Green Gold Cup, and did it in style by famously declaring their strategy in a pre-finals interview. This episode dissects more than just a win. It tracks the origin story of their pairing, the subtle mechanics that make their rounds click, and the unspoken signals that separate functional teams from dominant ones. Expect a mix of technical insight and unfiltered banter: how they divide roles mid-round without saying a word, how conflict sharpens rather than fractures their strategy, and the small, almost invisible habits that compound into competitive advantage. There’s also a lighter edge: inside jokes, chaotic tendencies, and the personality contrasts that make their dynamic as entertaining as it is effective. For anyone serious about debate partnerships, or just interested in how two strong personalities negotiate space, banter, ego, and excellence, this is a case study worth your time.

Yapper Series Ep 2: The most powerful debating tool

Every great debater has it: that dangerous mix of confidence, conviction, and mild delusion. In this very short but raw (unedited) episode, Shamiah talks about how manifestation, confidence, and selective delusion quietly decides rounds.

The Queen’s Gambit: Michelle Adika (Part 2)

In this second installment of The Queen’s Gambit, we sit down with Michelle Adika, one of the boldest voices in global debating, to unpack what it means to be a Black woman holding space at the World Universities Debate Championship. From strategy secrets for anyone wanting to reach PAUDC Johannesburg finals, to honest takes on accessibility in global debating, to whether The Bin Room Banter should be “cancelled” (👀), Michelle brings heat, humor, and hard truth. Oh, and yes, we settle the tea on women fighting over top-room boys. She also dropped a few tips on prep for Jozi: A. Depth in African Philosophy: African philosophy: exploring what it truly means to be African. B. Political and Historical Context: Southern Africa’s political landscape: especially South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. C. Mastery of Rules and Application: We need to strengthen our grasp of debate rules, not just in theory, but in how they shape obligations within a round. In SAUDC rounds, teams are precise about framework and context. For example, they call out when arguments are retrospective rather than grounded in what has happened. They also make sure to clearly flag specific actions that fulfill what the motion demands. Happy prep for Jozi

Ranking Top 10 speakers in the +254 - Part 1

This episode, we rank Kenya’s finest from positions 10 to 6: the ones who break your tab, steal your crush, and deliver speeches so clean you’re not sure if you should clap or retire. They didn’t quite make it to the mythical top 5, but they’ve made enough people cry in rooms to earn their spot in the hall of fame. Also, we welcome Kim Jong UON on studio. Join us for hot takes, behind-the-scenes tea, and petty analysis of what makes these legends unforgettable (and occasionally insufferable). Because in the debate world, everyone still has bragging rights, and enough style to humble you real quick. Watch out for the next Episode to find out our top 5 in Kenya. Disclaimer: The opinions expressed are from our perspective, and not designed to cause any harm.

The Myth of the Strong Man

They told us that real men don’t cry. So we didn’t. Instead, we laughed too loud. We stayed silent when everything inside us was falling apart. Because somewhere along the way, we learned that tears make you weak, and breaking makes you less of a man. But what if that’s the lie that’s killing us? In this episode of Bin Room Banter, we strip away the debate banter, just for a moment and sit in the raw, aching truth of it all. The boys who cried in secret. The fathers who never healed. This one’s for every man who ever felt something, but didn’t know what to do with it. For the ones who are tired of being strong. And for the rare, beautiful moment when a man lets himself cry, not because he’s broken, but because he’s brave enough to begin healing.

    Top Rooms are Overrated

You ever make it to a top room and instantly feel like you don’t belong? Yeah, same. In our very first episode, Kimani (a certified toproomer) and Shamiah (a binroom philosopher) unpack the great lie: that top rooms are the promised land. Spoiler alert: They are not. We are talking about: * Judging, * The unspoken politics of “owning space”, * And why the bin room is where the real ones heal, gossip and plot revenge. If you’ve ever asked, “Did I make it into the room because I was good … or just lucky?” Or worse, “Did I not make it because I was bad…or just disposable?”. This episode is your safe space. Welcome to the Banter. Welcome to the Bin. Hope you brought snacks. #BRB #Binroomer
