Breaking Headsets Podcast

Travis and Noah grew up in the same small town, went across the world, and somehow ended up right back where they started — just with better stories. After 35 years of friendship, wild concerts, busted headsets, bad sports bets, and late-night debates, they’ve got a take on everything... even if no one’s asking. It’s just two best friends talking to themselves — and loving every second of it.

    #49.5: The Goodest Girl Club

This week, Breaking Headsets goes mobile: one host has a brand-new shoulder, the other is driving to Las Vegas, and somehow that’s still not the strangest part of the episode. They start with the episode that never made it out: a late-night recording ruined by terrible audio, painkillers, DoorDash, and apparently enough questionable honesty to become future Patreon material — assuming they ever actually create a Patreon. From there, they get into road-trip phone calls, Sammy Hagar, the Foo Fighters at Allegiant Stadium, a titanium shoulder that may be interfering with the microphones, and a major first for the show: an actual sponsor. The boys officially welcome L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Benicia, complete with an original jingle, spam musubi, mac salad, unnecessary singing, and the declaration that may now follow the podcast forever: L&L is fire. They also check in on Robert the Savior, who somehow bought a new house directly across the street from his old house — just in time for his wife to break her ankle in a boating accident during move-in week. Then it’s time to settle unfinished business with the America’s Goodest Girl bracket. After Dolly Parton won the original American Treasure bracket, an all-female edition was demanded. A female panel was assembled. Everything was organized. Then almost everybody bailed. So the boys step in and somehow work their way through Oprah, Serena Williams, Taylor Swift, Julia Roberts, Michelle Obama, Mariah Carey, Martha Stewart, Britney Spears, Sandra Bullock, Megan Rapinoe, Hillary Clinton — and, for reasons nobody can properly explain, the Pope. There are disappearing connections, questionable voting, accusations of sexism, Julia Roberts somehow becoming Julia Stiles, and enough chaos to make the first bracket look professionally produced. Eventually, it comes down to Julia Roberts vs. Sandra Bullock for the completely meaningless but fiercely contested title of America’s Goodest Girl. And because the episode still isn’t chaotic enough, it ends with an investigation into whether Stu on the Streets secretly blocked Travis from the group chat — which somehow turns into drones over San Francisco and dating advice. Broken shoulders, road trips, Hawaiian barbecue, boating injuries, brackets, bad internet, accusations, and one very real sponsor. Just another completely normal episode of the Breaking Headsets Podcast.

    #49: Rumor Road

This week, the boys are finally back — and it doesn’t take long before the entire episode gets rerouted straight onto Renshaw’s Rumor Road. After more than a month away, they catch up over roadside tacos, an absurd amount of salsa, and an orange drink with enough sugar to qualify as a dessert. From there, they revisit the beautiful disaster that was the last American Treasure bracket — missing audio, questionable voting, Dolly Parton somehow emerging victorious, and all — while setting the stage for the next round: an all-female American Treasure bracket with a new panel. Then comes the real controversy. Fantasy football season is approaching, an opening appears in a longtime league, and somehow everyone except the guy who has been asking to join for years gets the call. The explanation? Apparently, “word on the street” is that he retired from fantasy football. Nobody knows which street — but Renshaw’s Rumor Road is officially born. The episode also gets unexpectedly personal as they talk about the one-year anniversary of losing a father, a long-overdue family gathering to spread his ashes in the Sierras, and the kind of completely inappropriate humor that somehow makes the hardest moments a little easier. There’s unexpected Hebrew, questionable ash-distribution techniques, chunks of bone, and the realization that sometimes the most imperfect memorial can still bring exactly the closure you needed. And because this show can never stay serious for too long, they also recap a courtside Valkyries game that nearly turned into a confrontation, meeting the Goo Goo Dolls backstage, the mysterious Dropbox containing years of strangers’ meet-and-greet photos, and one of the most important debates ever presented on the podcast: if you could only eat potatoes in one form for the rest of your life, what are you choosing? Plus, there are plans for trivia and karaoke, another bracket on the horizon, a future potato ranking, and a tease of something the show has been chasing for a long time — a new sponsor. It’s friendship, grief, fantasy football betrayal, tacos, concerts, basketball, potatoes, terrible rumors, and the usual amount of completely unnecessary arguments. Welcome back to the Breaking Headsets Podcast — and welcome to Renshaw’s Rumor Road.

    #47: Concussion Karaoke

**Noah is back after taking a baseball to the back of the head, and naturally, the guys turn a legitimate concussion into one of the funniest Breaking Headsets stories yet. From the eyewitness reports of “my head, my head,” to Noah waking up in the dirt, getting fast-tracked through the ER, and Travis laughing way too hard over FaceTime while Noah sits in a hospital gown waiting on CT scan results — the whole thing becomes an instant classic.** **Once the concussion dust settles, Travis and Noah get into El Molino’s betrayal of the century: casually mentioning a Big Boi/Outkast set at the last possible second, after Noah had already spent weeks defending Outkast as a real band. That leads to karaoke threats, Retro Junkie plans, Brandy vs. Suspicious Minds, a possible one-man show, and a full breakdown of Retrofest at Concord Pavilion.** **The guys also recap Father’s Day, debate the biggest villain in the Breaking Headsets universe, revisit Renshaw’s horrifying plate of food, shout out Stu on the Streets, and somehow end up appreciating America through the eyes of World Cup fans discovering Popeyes, giant parking lots, self-serve soda machines, free chips and salsa, air conditioning, and football stadiums.** **It’s concussions, hospital gowns, Outkast betrayal, karaoke delusion, dad-life chaos, international soccer fans, and peak American nonsense — exactly the kind of spiral only Breaking Headsets can turn into an episode.**
