Kim Haberley on Facelifts at 37, Building Boho Blond and The 10 Year Hustle Nobody Sees

Kim Haberley (Boho Blond) joins Kia Jonasson on The Blume Edit for an honest conversation about building a hair business from scratch, the years of hustle nobody talks about, and the very public decision to travel to Turkey for a facelift at 37. Kim opens up about growing up in the country, becoming a mum at 20, starting Boho Blond in her garage, and the decade of 12 hour shifts, seven day weeks and thousands of dollars of free hair it took to build a name people trust. She talks candidly about the difference between being a great hairdresser and a great businesswoman, why resilience matters more than knowledge, and how she has built one of the strongest personal brands in Australian hair by refusing to be anything other than herself. She also shares the moment she realised her face had changed (spoiler: it was stress, not weight), the sporadic decision that landed her in a Turkish operating theatre, the three days of regret and pain that followed, and where her head is at now with businesses launching, motherhood questions, and America on the table. If you are in the hair industry, building a personal brand, or just curious about the honest reality behind the polished feed, this one is for you. Backing Yourself Before You Are Ready: Hatem on The Blume Edit with Kia Jonasson

Hatem (@hairbyhatem) joins Kia Jonasson on The Blume Edit to talk about the huge leap from Perth to Sydney, building one of the most recognisable personal brands in the Australian hair industry, and the honest realities behind the polished feed. Hatem opens up about the moment he decided he was "sick of it" and needed bigger, working with Baby Boo and the brands that made him feel like he had finally made it, the celebrity gig that felt like being a "slave behind the chair," and the surprise dream client who lived up to every expectation (spoiler: Bindi Irwin). Plus: the wildest DM he has ever received, his honest take on Turkey surgery, dating icks in Sydney, the beauty trends he wants gone yesterday (zigzag curls, cut creases, overfilled lips), the one underrated treatment that changed his skin forever, and why he is now eyeing Dubai or the US as his next move. A conversation about backing yourself before you are ready, saying yes to the uncomfortable, and running toward the thing everyone else avoids. HOSTED BY: Kia Jonasson, founder of Blume Aesthetics Book a consultation: https://blumeaesthetics.com Follow Blume: https://www.instagram.com/blumeaesthetics Follow Hatem on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hairbyhatem Follow Hatem on TikTok: @hairbyhatem for the real, raw, rogue version SUBSCRIBE for new episodes every week. Unfiltered, unscripted, and unapologetic. (00:00) Intro and welcome Hatem (01:08) Leaving Perth for Sydney: the bravest move he ever made (04:00) Landing Baby Bre and the moment he knew he had "made it" (05:47) The most chaotic shoot he has ever worked on (06:52) Celebrity diva jobs and the Bindi Irwin surprise (09:43) Dating in Sydney, the ick list and red flags to never ignore (13:04) The wildest DM and the beauty trends he wants gone forever (16:10) Getting surgery in Turkey: the honest experience (17:38) Skin lasers and what actually makes someone attractive (19:28) The Be Seen tour and the community it built (23:30) What holds creatives back and running toward what scares you (25:57) Advice to his younger self and why Dubai or the US is next Key Takeaways The scariest move is often the best one. Leaving Perth for Sydney unlocked opportunities Hatem could not have accessed staying comfortable. You need proximity to want more. Seeing what other artists were getting in Sydney was the trigger that pushed him to make the leap. Say no to disrespectful jobs. Even a big name celebrity gig is not worth being treated like "a slave behind the chair"; your peace is part of your rate. The dream clients are usually the nicest ones. Bindi Irwin lived up to every expectation, on brand and off. Less is more when it comes to beauty. Over filled lips, mega ring "ramen noodle" curls and heavy cut creases cheapen the look; softness reads as expensive. Facial harmonisation beats mega treating one area. Small tweaks across the face for symmetry outperform overloading one feature. Turkey is great for results, not pain management. Do your research, know what you are signing up for, and plan for the recovery, not just the surgery. Skin lasers are the most underrated glow up. CO2, hybrid pixel peels and glass skin treatments beat almost anything else for a polished look. Confidence is what actually makes someone attractive. On set, on camera, or on a date. The hottest face without confidence does not translate. Watch how people behave on the first date. The person you meet on date one is them at their peak. If the bill is a red flag, believe it. Fear of posting is the biggest thing holding creatives back. Nobody is perfect on camera, but consistency and authenticity win over polish every time. #HairByHatem #Hatem #TheBlumeEdit #KiaJonasson #BlumeAesthetics #AustralianHairStylist #CelebrityHairStylist #BabyBre #BeautyPodcast #HairPodcast #PodcastAustralia #DatingInSydney #TurkeySurgery #FacialHarmonisation #SkinLasers #UnfilteredPodcast #AussiePodcast

Yana Marks: Doing It Her Own Way

Yana Marks joins Kia Jonasson on The Blume Edit for an unfiltered chat about Love Island Australia 2025, her viral rise as Sydney Plumber Chick, building Trade Chicks while she was locked inside the villa, and the moment her ex-boyfriend Kai walked in as a bombshell — only for the two of them to walk out winning the whole thing together. Yana opens up about the fear of "sexualising the trade," finishing her plumbing apprenticeship before stepping into reality TV, the communication breakthrough that saved her relationship with Kai, the night she nearly packed her bags, and the cease-and-desist drama that nearly took down her brand launch before she’d even left the villa. She also gets honest about confidence, Botox, the surgery wishlist conversation, the brutal reality of being treated like "a poster" instead of a person, and why she’ll always be an advocate for women in trades — even now that her life looks a little less dirty boots and a little more glam. If you watched Love Island AU 2025 and have questions — this is the one. Timestamps / Chapters (0:00) Intro & welcome Yana Marks (1:18) How "Sydney Plumber Chick" was born during COVID (4:50) Saying yes to Love Island & the fear of sexualising the trade (7:30) Finishing the apprenticeship & walking into the villa (11:00) The shock moment: her ex Kai walks in as a bombshell (13:30) Trapped with your ex 24/7: why communication won (16:15) The hardest moment & nearly leaving on Kai’s birthday (19:00) Two versions of Yana: tradie vs. on-camera (22:10) Pressure to change & doing surgery on your own terms (26:00) Beauty & dealing with the haters (28:10) Building Trade Chicks (and the cease & desist drama) (33:10) Misconceptions, wildest DMs & where to follow Yana Key Takeaways Build for love, not clout — Yana grew Sydney Plumber Chick because she genuinely loved her job, and authenticity is what made it stick. Communication is the relationship glue — the villa became Yana and Kai’s accidental couples therapy, and it’s the only reason they’re still together. Going on reality TV is a calculated risk — understand the public exposure and backlash before you sign up; brand deals are not guaranteed. Confidence isn’t cocky — there’s a clear difference between loving yourself and being arrogant, and women shouldn’t be punished for the former. Reality TV stars are still people — being treated like "a poster" is the unglamorous side of fame nobody talks about. Evolution isn’t betrayal — you can pivot industries (trades to beauty/fashion) without abandoning who you are or the community you built. Always finish what you start — Yana refused to go on the show until her apprenticeship was signed off, protecting her long-term career options. Building a business in a media blackout is brutal — the Trade Chicks cease-and-desist hit while Yana was inside the villa with zero contact to the outside world. Women in trades deserve more visibility — representation matters, and brands that actually serve tradie women are still rare.
