Beyond the ancient gates, Tharic Cleanfist and Tai’zen Voidfist step into a forgotten dwarven forgehold buried beneath the Ravngrim Wastes. There, among cold anvils and dying flame, they encounter Morgron — an ancient Forge Spirit who remembers the Cleanfist name and knows far more about the powers moving across the Wastes than either traveller expected. But there is little time for answers. The Ashbound have followed them into the Crucible. Led by a brutal warleader and accompanied by a Blood Eclipse cultist, the raiders launch their assault upon the forge. Steel, divine flame and eldritch power collide as Tharic is pushed to the very edge of death and Tai’zen continues to uncover the frightening potential of the power within him. Yet as the battle rages, something unexpected happens. Old loyalties begin to fracture. Two Ashbound warriors — Ironclaw and Jeff Hardtusk — turn their weapons against their own, revealing that not everyone within Tharic’s former clan has surrendered to Vorgrak’s rule. And when the fighting finally ends, Tharic is forced to confront the legacy of his father, the fate of the Bloodspike clan and the possibility that the Ravngrim Wastes may not be beyond saving.
