We’re headed to the Alaskan wilderness, to a place where science meets conspiracy, where military technology meets Nikola Tesla’s ghost—and where the sky itself might not be what it seems. And have you ever heard of The Prophecy of the Popes*? Also known as St. Malachy's Prophecy? It's one of those mysterious, end-times-ish topics that pops up every now and then, especially when the world feels extra weird—and let’s be honest, lately, it’s been *real weird. The prophecy claims to predict all the future popes—like a holy version of a bingo card. It’s been floating around for centuries, and some folks get super excited about it, especially because it supposedly ends with a final pope during a time of judgment. Dun-dun-DUN! Cue the dramatic thunderclap, right? But here’s the thing: when you dig a little deeper, it starts to look a whole lot like someone took a creative writing class in the 1500s and went wild with it.     And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, Philippians 1:9-10 "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 In 1989, the Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON (yes, it's a real thing), found itself caught in a bit of a drama. On one side, you had the classic UFO enthusiasts, like astronomer Jacques Vallee and, to some extent, nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, who genuinely wanted to get the scientific community to take UFOs seriously. Then, on the other side, you had John Lear and his crew of conspiracy theorists who were all about government cover-ups, alien autopsies, and making grand claims with little more than rumors and suspiciously forged documents to back them up. So, when MUFON decided to hold a symposium in Las Vegas that year—Lear’s hometown—where he was also a volunteer state director, Lear demanded his crew be given a significant speaking slot. MUFON's leadership, not wanting to rock the boat too much, refused at first, but Lear, not one for subtlety, threatened to host a rival symposium that would steal the show. Eventually, MUFON caved, and the theme of the symposium was set: "The UFO Cover-up: A Government Conspiracy?"

But honestly, some of the most interesting stuff happened in the 1960s. That’s when we got the first big abduction claims from Betty and Barney Hill, Lonny Zamora’s close encounter in New Hampshire, and the Kecksburg incident in Pennsylvania. But the most infamous case? That happened in March 1966 in Michigan, where a bunch of people reported seeing strange lights in the sky. Since these sightings took place over swampland, the Air Force’s Project Blue Book sent in an investigator who suggested they were just seeing marsh gas—basically, the same thing behind will-o’-the-wisp and jack-o’-lantern folklore. Now, scientifically speaking, it was a reasonable explanation… but the public wasn’t buying it. “Swamp gas” quickly became the go-to punchline among UFO enthusiasts as an example of the kind of ridiculous cover stories the government allegedly feeds people.
