We Have To Talk About Dash Rendar

Sophia Goodnight and Swamp Vendor

Join two queer 30-somethings every two weeks as they read (and occasionally watch) the Star Wars Legends oeuvre in publication order! They discuss the merits of the old extended universe and enjoy (or don't enjoy!) these pulpy sci-fi novels. And, eventually, they will talk about Dash Rendar. (We Need To Talk About Dash Rendar is our mirror-universe podcast, about a different franchise. We don't know why they picked that name.)

You Were Brief And Rather Incoherent (Dark Force Rising)

Well gang, this may be the last episode of We Have To Talk About Dash Rendar you ever listen to. Not because we're ending, we're not gonna stop for at least 11 years. No, it's because Vhrischtka and Jakhe Ph’eyke kind of hated Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn. We'll respect you if you don't want to follow us any longer. But the characters are uncompelling and don't believe in anything, the story is grounded in racism and sexism, and Timothy Zahn is no Steven Erikson.  Topics of discussion include WOE.BEGONE, Malazan Book of the Fallen, Radiata Stories, taxation on exotic biomolecules, Joruus Peterson, Kerobos Lord Satan, Skyewalkers: A Clone Wars Story, Dengar (again), hardcore crinbid fanatics, cool birds, novels about the military draft. Editors note in case it's unclear: The reason that the treatment of aliens by a text can be racist is because aliens are a racialized Other and it reflects the author and society's consideration of racialized Others, not because it's specifically racist against, say, the Noghri. Jakhe Ph’eyke (who also did our cover art) can be found online at chalkpastelmancer.tumblr.com  Vhrischtka can be found online at sophia-goodnight-poetry.tumblr.com and her other podcast Swords Against Cerebus can be found on gruppeshrike.net We Have To Talk About Dash Rendar's meager web presence is at talk-about-dash-rendar.tumblr.com  We Have To Talk About Dash Rendar's theme music was composed by Avery Crimes
