How Much Of You Was Your Choice?

Some conversations start silly and then swerve into something that feels uncomfortably true. We begin with jokes and quick banter, then we land in real life: rough weeks, working with kids, budgeting stress, a month off therapy that was not planned, and what it means to keep going when your mental health is doing “funky” things and you can still name every pattern. From there, we introduce a question that becomes the spine of the episode: “Is it growth or did I just get tired?” We talk about boundaries, choosing not to respond, and why peace can look the same whether it comes from healing or from being completely over it. We also get into the hard work of communication, emotional regulation, and the moments where you realise the “old you” is still present, just better managed. Then we go deeper into identity and self-concept: how family stories can reshape the way you see yourself, what we believe about who we are at our core, what we are still trying to accept, and when we finally start choosing ourselves over other people’s expectations. We unpack criticism that keeps showing up, compliments that don’t land, body image, voice insecurity, and how internalised shame can make you second-guess what you sound like in the world. We also challenge the difference between truth and projection, especially when feedback comes from someone close. We close with honesty about what the “strong friend” hides, why asking for help can feel impossible, and a final question we want you to sit with all week. If this hit home, subscribe, share the episode with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation.
