The Working Mom Trade-Off And The Myth Of 'Having It All'

If you're a working mom, I'm willing to bet at some point you've felt the pressure to somehow do it all, and do it all well. Be successful at work. Be present with your kids. Make time for your marriage. Keep up with everything at home. Take care of yourself. And somehow find enough hours in the day to make all of that happen. The truth is, even for those who appear to have it all, there is always a trade-off. In this episode of Overcaffeinated and Out of Effs I sit down with Katrina Hofstetter, an estate planning attorney, business owner and mom of three about what it really looks like to balance a demanding career with motherhood, and why being your own boss doesn't necessarily make work-life balance easier. Katrina shares how she built a rapidly growing law practice while raising three boys, what burnout looks like for her, and how working from home has blurred the boundaries between her career and family life. We also talk about the pressure to always be available, the boundaries she’s had to put in place with clients and work, and the difficult realization that flexibility still doesn’t mean you can do everything. In this episode we talk about: What burnout can look and feel like when you're constantly in “go mode” Why working from home can make it harder (not easier) to separate work and family lifeThe impact burnout can have on patience, parenting and your relationship with your spouseWhy career success and flexibility don't eliminate the trade-offs of being a working momLetting go of the expectation that you should somehow be able to “do it all” One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation is a hard truth so many working moms need to hear: there is no perfect situation where you get to say yes to everything. Sometimes you give more to work. Other times you give more to family. There will be times when you have to miss something, delegate or admit that you simply don't have the capacity to do one more thing. That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. The goal isn't figuring out how to “have it all.” It's about deciding what matters most right now (knowing that can, and likely will, change) and giving yourself permission to let the rest go. How To Deal With Difficult People When You're Already Burned Out

Do you ever leave work feeling completely drained, not because of the workload but because of the people? In this week's episode of Overcaffeinated and Out of Effs I'm joined by communication speaker and trainer, Kelly Lippenholz, who shares her own journey of returning to the workforce after years as a stay-at-home mom. Like so many other working moms, she found herself emotionally depleted by challenging interactions with coworkers and realized that burnout made navigating those relationships even harder. Instead of accepting that stress as "just part of the job," Kelly set out to understand why some people felt so difficult to work with. What she learned about communication styles, motivations, and human behavior completely changed the way she interacted with others and ultimately helped reduce her stress, improve her relationships and protect her own well-being. In this conversation, we talk about why difficult people feel even more difficult when you're already burned out, how understanding different communication styles can change the way you respond to conflict, and practical strategies you can use to protect your energy both at work and at home. In this episode we discuss: Why dealing with difficult people can be one of the biggest contributors to workplace burnoutHow burnout affects your nervous system and makes conflict feel even more overwhelmingWhy understanding communication styles can transform your relationshipsThe biggest misconceptions we have about “difficult” peoplePractical ways to communicate more effectively without sacrificing your own well-being Find Kelly at: https://www.kellylippenholz.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/kelly-lippenholz/ Looking for extra support? How To Protect Your Energy (Not Just Your Time) As A Burned Out Working Mom

So many of us have been taught that when we're overwhelmed, the answer is to push harder, stay more organized or somehow squeeze even more into an already packed schedule. But what if the answer is about more than managing your time so you can “do it all”? In this week's episode of Overcaffeinated and Out of Effs I'm joined by K. Margaret Solorio, author of Make Ease Your Vibe, who shares her own story of hitting burnout during the COVID pandemic while juggling work and motherhood. She opens up about the breaking point that forced her to rethink everything and the simple mindset, energy and environment shifts that helped her begin feeling like herself again. When you're naturally drawn to conversations about energy or simply looking for practical ways to feel calmer and less overwhelmed, this episode offers a fresh perspective on burnout recovery and creating a home environment that supports your well-being instead of adding to your stress. In this episode we talk about: Why pushing harder often makes burnout worseThe difference between managing your time and protecting your energySimple ways your home environment can affect your stress levelsWhat it means to create more ease in everyday life Practical strategies to help you feel calmer, more present and more productive Find K. Why "Just Work Harder" Doesn't Work for Burned Out Working Moms

In today's episode of Overcaffeinated and Out of Effs I sit down with burnout coach and former UX executive Nicole Johnson for a conversation about what happens when your life has you managing a crisis but the world still expects you to show up and perform like everything is fine. A Year of Podcasting: The 4 Biggest Lessons Every Burned Out Working Mom Needs to Know

This week marks a major milestones: one full year of Overcaffeinated and Out of Effs!
