    The Loving Thing to Do

    Send us Fan Mail This week’s Moment of Truth: John 6:38 — "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will, but to do the will of Him who sent me." Jesus had one mission on this earth: obey the Father. Not negotiate with Him. Not do what felt fair. Obey. As His followers, our mission is to do His will — and when we do, we experience a peace of mind that goes far beyond our circumstances, even in a hard world. Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) found that out during a home project that didn’t go as planned. The crew put in a long, hard day’s work, and over the course of it, some real damage was done to his property. When they were finishing up, the man responsible didn’t try to hide it — he was upfront about it and clearly worried about what it might cost him. Richard was frustrated. That part of his property had just been fixed the week before, and now it needed fixing again. But he thought about the parable of the servant who was forgiven a huge debt — then turned around and had someone thrown in prison over a debt that was tiny by comparison. Richard didn’t want to be that man. So he covered the cost himself instead of holding the man responsible. And he walked away with peace. Not the peace the world offers. The peace that comes from doing what God wants, not what he was owed. Have you ever known — really known — that God wanted something different from you than what the world says you’re owed?     Not a General, a Father

    Send us Fan Mail This week’s Moment of Truth: Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) — “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” To speak to a general, you need an appointment. You knock, you wait, you stand at attention until you're told to sit. So why do so many Christian men treat prayer like it needs the same formality — or worse, skip it entirely because it feels like too much trouble? You don't need an appointment with God. You don't need the right words or a clean record. He already knows your heart — the failures and the faith — and He's still calling you into the room. Isaiah 1:18 says it plainly: “Come now, let us reason together. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Are you treating prayer like something you need an appointment for, or like a conversation with a Father who's already listening?     We Have Met the Enemy

    Send us Fan Mail This week’s Moment of Truth: Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV) — "Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus." We've spent weeks talking about threats to Christianity. Here's the uncomfortable truth: every single one of them has the same accomplice. It's not the world. It's not the culture. It's you and me. In this week's “Moment of Truth,” Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) names it plainly: no threat to the faith succeeds without our passivity, our pride, our ignorance of Scripture, or our fear of standing firm. The world will always be the world — it will lie, divide, and prey on the defenseless. That's not up for debate. What's up for debate is us. A Christian man who storms a school board meeting armed with truth but delivers it with anger and vulgarity hasn't defended Christ — he's handed the world a win. A church that preaches the Bible until it collides with politics isn't living the gospel — it's playing at it. The only behavior any of us actually controls is our own. As Oliver Perry once reported victory at Lake Erie, and Walt Kelly later parodied for a different kind of battle: we have met the enemy, and he is us. The future of the church in this culture won't be decided by the threats coming at it. It'll be decided by how we respond to them.     Make Friends With Discomfort

    Send us Fan Mail This week's Moment of Truth: Romans 5:3-5 (NIV) — “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Comfort is the enemy of growth. And the world is selling it to you every single day. Immediate gratification, ease, and the absence of struggle are not blessings — they are attacks on everything God plans for you as a man and as a member of the body of Christ. Every warrior knows that unless you push into the pain, there is no growth. The gym, the road, the combat zone — none of it gets easier by avoiding it. The same is true of your faith. When did you last press into something uncomfortable for the sake of Christ? When did you last choose obedience over ease, discipline over distraction, stillness over noise? New habits can be formed in as little as 21 days. Give God 15 to 20 minutes each day. Pray before meals. Be more gracious. Spend more time in stillness. What feels strange at first will very quickly become the most powerful way to live — and to minister to a struggling world. Make friends with discomfort. That is where growth lives.     Not a Time for Opinion

    Send us Fan Mail This week's Moment of Truth: Proverbs 18:2 (NIV) — "Fools find no pleasure in understanding, but delight in airing their opinions." How did Proverbs know about Facebook 2,000 years ago? We live in a world where headlines pass for the whole story, where volume substitutes for truth, and where AI tells us what to think and we call it wisdom. And while this may be sadly true of the world — it should not be true of Christians. Christians are not consumers of worldly garbage recycled generation after generation. Christians are humble servants who obey Jesus Christ. We are official ambassadors of His heavenly kingdom. And as ambassadors, we cannot hold opinions that conflict with what He says is good, right, and just. If we do, we are wrong. The devil knows this. And his most effective weapon against the church is not persecution — it is opinion. Baseless, divisive, conflicting opinion that confuses the truth of God, destroys unity, and makes Christians combat ineffective. So, whose message do you most often deliver — yours or Jesus's? This is not a time for opinion. It is a time for unity and courage in the truth of God as written in the Bible.     Suit Up for Battle

    Send us Fan Mail This week's Moment of Truth: Ephesians 6:10-12 (NIV) — "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." The enemy is not taking a day off. Are you? The devil will come against you at work, at the grocery store, at the mall, and in your own home. He wants to isolate you from Christ and from the community of believers — because that is where Christian warriors draw their strength. And he will not sit back while you raise good children, vote for godly politicians, and speak the truth of God. Every inch of ground must be fought for. That includes your children's schools, their minds, and their futures. Do you know their teachers? Have you attended a school board meeting? Do you know what they are being exposed to on social media, in video games, and in the classroom? The struggle is very real. And you have a very real part in it.     Do What You Can

    Send us Fan Mail This week's Moment of Truth: 2 Corinthians 8:12 (NIV) — “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” Will you let the forces of evil decide what you fight for? Will you allow negative people to determine the hope you have for the future? Or will you go down fighting — according to the truth of God? In this week’s “Moment of Truth,” Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) takes you to Combat Outpost Delhi in Helmand Province, Afghanistan — where his team of 33 was embedded with 470 Afghan border police, training them, patrolling with them, and showing them what good change could look like. Did it take? He still doesn’t know. But that was never the point. Faith in Jesus Christ is very similar to advising on a battlefield. Your mission is not to control outcomes. Your mission is to show up, do your best with what you have, and trust God with the rest. We sow the seeds. The Holy Spirit waters them.     Go and Do Likewise

    Send us Fan Mail This week's Moment of Truth: Luke 10:25-37 (NIV) — "On one occasion, an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. 'Teacher,' he asked, 'What must I do to inherit eternal life?'... But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn, and took care of him... Jesus told him, 'Go and do likewise.'" Jesus' plan was simple — love God and love your neighbor. Simple, but not easy. And without a plan, even the most faithful man will miss the opportunity right in front of him. Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) continues the Missed Opportunities series this week with a story that will hit close to home. In Frankfurt, tired and frustrated after a disappointing meal, he walked past a hungry, homeless man and did nothing. He made it about himself. And in doing so, a man missed not just a meal — but a chance to be seen, to be cared for, and to be lifted above the streets on which he lived. Marines don't go outside the wire without a plan. They don't let the enemy choose their behavior. They don't wallow in circumstances. As Christians, we must do the same. If we are going to love people as our faith demands, we must be intentional — because it is far too easy to miss what God has placed directly in our path. Who is your neighbor?
