    Liars, Evil Beasts, and Lazy Gluttons!

    Send us a message. Season 5, Episode 12 — Liars, Evil Beasts, and Lazy Gluttons! What happens when assumptions about people, cultures, and nationalities begin to shape the way we see one another? In this tongue-in-cheek episode, “Liars, Evil Beasts, and Lazy Gluttons,” we begin with Paul’s provocative words in Titus 1 and use them as a starting point for a much larger conversation about prejudice, diversity, and the danger of judging people based on preconceived notions. We take a look at Matthew 7:1–5 to examine Jesus’ instructions about judgment and the importance of first examining ourselves. We then turn to Jonah 4:1–11, where Jonah’s attitude toward the people of Nineveh reveals how deeply cultural and national prejudices can influence the way we view others—even when God is calling us to compassion. Scripture continually reminds us that our differences do not determine our worth. We are all created in the image of God, and Galatians 3:26–29 calls believers to unity in Christ regardless of nationality, background, or social standing. Finally, Hebrews 11:13 reminds us that we are ultimately strangers and foreigners on this earth. Our time here is temporary. Rather than allowing labels, stereotypes, and superficial differences to divide us, we are called to something greater: to love one another, see others as God sees them, and find our unity in Christ.     Hijacking Biblical Terminology: “Full Gospel”

    Send us a message. Is it actually in the Bible—or have we simply heard it so many times that we assume it is? In this episode, we take a closer look at popular phrases, teachings, and sayings that are often presented as biblical truth, even though they either don’t appear in Scripture or are frequently misunderstood or taken out of context. Over time, these expressions can become so familiar that they begin to overshadow what Scripture actually says. We discuss and challenge ideas such as “Name It and Claim It,” “Once Saved, Always Saved,” “The Lord helps those who help themselves,” and several other commonly repeated statements. We also examine 1 Corinthians 15:1–8 and various passages throughout Acts as we look directly at Scripture to consider what the Gospel actually is. We also address the misconception behind the term “Full Gospel.” Is there really a “full” Gospel as opposed to some lesser version? The Gospel is already complete. It doesn’t need a modifier, an addition, or a theological label—it is simply the Gospel. When we add our own terminology, traditions, or interpretations, those things can sometimes begin to overshadow the message Scripture actually gives us. As we continue searching for ways to unify Christians, we ask whether some of the labels, phrases, and theological terminology we use actually help bring believers together—or unnecessarily divide us. Rather than allowing man-made terminology to define our faith, our goal is to return to Scripture, focus on the Gospel, and allow the Word of God to speak for itself. We don't need to add to the Gospel. We simply need to hear it, believe it, and follow it. Support the show

    Replacing the Replacement Theory!

    Send us a message. “Replacement Theory” is a term often used to describe the belief that the Church in the New Testament age has replaced Israel as God’s chosen people. But is “replacement” really the best way to describe what Scripture teaches? In this episode of the Come and See at Vanville Podcast, Dan and Sean turn to Galatians 3:6–9 and Romans 11 to explore a different biblical picture. Galatians points us toward becoming children of God through faith, while Romans describes Gentile believers as being grafted in. Rather than focusing on who has been replaced, these passages point us toward how, through faith in Christ, we are brought into the family and promises of God. Dan and Sean also discuss how terms like “Replacement Theory” are sometimes used to attack or divide other Christians. As followers of Christ, we have been given a mission to take the Gospel to the world. When theological labels become weapons against one another, that disunity can distract us from the mission we share.     Three Key Words: It's Been Decided!
