Dominoes Effect

Kim

Dominoes Effect was conceived by a group of six, 60+ friends who gather monthly for an afternoon of Mexican Train dominoes, accompanied by food, laughter and of course, conversations that move randomly through a myriad of topics including Medicare, health, theatre, electric bikes and how Judie with an "ie" has become the new Karen (of course there is a story there)!  Some topics are best reserved for a mature listener group because....well, it's the Dominoes Effect! After months of creative yet foggy minds molding the Dominoes Effect podcast  into it's initial form, the group realized the complexity of recording a podcast while playing live rounds of Mexican Train.  Thus, the Dominoes Effect podcast content is created from a variety of sources including conversations from the monthly gathering of friends, world events (yes, politics included) and the life journey of its host and guests. The podcast will bring in guests to share their knowledge and insights - making each episode unique as it evolves live! You may not become wiser from tuning into the Dominoes Effect podcast, but your life's journey will be fuller, and you will learn to hold each moment before letting it go into the universe! "If you let yourself be absorbed completely, if you surrender completely to the moments as they pass, you live more richly those moments." - Anne Morrow Lindbergh

    Dominoes Effect - Episode 16 - April 27, 2026

Send us Fan Mail Rich and Kim are back with Dominoes Effect Episode 16! This episode ran a little longer than normal - sorry!  There was just so much important information to share with the listeners...so take it all in and enjoy a little time with Dominoes Effect! Three Ingredient Salsa Chicken Salsa chicken is a delightful dish that brings together the comforting flavors of chicken and the vibrant zing of salsa, making it a favorite for busy weeknights.  Ingredients Chicken breasts (2 lbs)Salsa (1 cup)Black beans (1 can, drained and rinsed)Instructions 1.   (Total cook time: about 6 hours): Start by placing the chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker. Make sure they’re evenly spread out for even cooking. 2.    Pour the salsa over the chicken, ensuring it’s well-covered. This will help keep the chicken moist and infuse it with flavor. 3.    Add the black beans on top of the salsa, spreading them out gently. They’ll add a nice texture and protein boost! 4.    Set your slow cooker to low and let it cook for about 6 hours. If you’re in a hurry, you can set it to high for about 3 hours, but low and slow is really the way to go for tender chicken. 5.    Once the time is up, check that the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F). Shred the chicken right in the slow cooker using two forks; it should fall apart easily. 6.    Mix everything together, letting the chicken soak up all that delicious salsa goodness. Serve it up as is, or in tacos, over rice, or in a salad! RESIST - Robert Reich wrote an article on April 20th which clearly outlines 10 actions Americans can take now to promote our message of resistance. In light of Trump’s increasingly cruel and bonkers behavior — toward Iran, toward the pope, his posts, his bottomless vengeance, his continuing ICE raids, his continuing use of the Justice Department to target his enemies, his shameless corruption — many of you want to know: “What can I do now?” Here are 10 recommendations, in rough order of importance. 1. Protect the decent and hardworking members of your communities who are most vulnerable. 2. Protect them against bigotry and hate — LGBTQ+, immigrants, “hyphenated” Americans, and people of color.  3. Help protect officials in your community or state whom Trump and his administration are targeting for vengeance.  4. Organize and mobilize for the midterms. It’s not too early to plan to get out the vote on or before November 3 — ensuring that people who are eligible to vote are registered, that they know when and how to vote, that they know how to vote by mail or are otherwise able to get to polling places. 5. Participate in or organize boycotts of companies that are enabling the Trump regime — including Elon Musk’s X and Tesla, Amazon, Meta (Facebook), and any companies that advertise on X or on Fox News.  6. To the extent you are able, fund groups that are litigating against Trump. Much of the action stopping Trump and his regime is occurring in the federal courts.  7. Spread the truth. Get news through reliable sources, and spread it. If you hear anyone spreading lies and Trump propaganda, including local media, contradict them with facts and their sources.  8. Push for progressive measures in your community and state. Local and state governments retain significant power. Join groups that are moving your city or state forward. 9. Call your members of Congress. Tell them to oppose Trump and support progressive initiatives. And keep calling! Your calls count.  10. Keep the faith. Do not give up on America. This is a long and difficult slog but we have no choice. The fight we’re in will determine the future of this nation and much of

    Dominoes Effect - Episode 15 - March 23, 2026

Send us Fan Mail Dominoes Effect continues with Episode 15!  Springtime brings Rich and Kim back with more interesting topics on aging well (or trying to), current events and a few stories that bring us back in time.  Of course you need not worry, they also reviewed the political scene since the last episode was produced and that isn't easy to do in a time limited podcast!  The duo tried a two-ingredient cheesecake (that doesn't have cheese) and have included the recipe below so you can give it a try if you wish!  Thanks for your support of Dominoes Effect! Two-Ingredient Cheesecake INGREDIENTS ·       1 1/2 cups (360g) Greek yogurt, full-fat, I recommend Fage or Chobani for best results ·       3 large eggs, room temperature preferred. ·       Fresh berries for serving (optional) ·       Drizzle of honey or maple syrup for serving (optional) ·       Lemon zest for serving (optional). Instructions Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 6-inch springform pan with parchment paper, pressing it into the base and slightly up the sides to prevent sticking. Step 2: Add the Greek yogurt and eggs to a large bowl. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat on high speed for 2 to 3 minutes until the batter is completely smooth and well-aerated. Don’t skip this step. Proper mixing gives the cheesecake its light, creamy texture. Step 3: Pour the batter into the prepared springform pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Place on the center rack of your oven. Step 4: Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the edges are set but the center still has a gentle jiggle, like set Jell-O. Pro tip: avoid overbaking or the texture will become dry and grainy. Step 5: Turn off the oven and let the cheesecake cool inside with the door slightly ajar for 1 hour. This slow cool prevents cracking and keeps the surface smooth. Step 6: Remove from the oven, cool to room temperature (about 30 minutes), then refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Overnight is ideal for the cleanest slices and best flavor. Step 7: Once fully chilled, release from the springform pan and top with fresh berries, a drizzle of honey, or lemon zest before serving.

Three-ingredient Sausage and Cream Cheese Pastry  Total Time: 36 minutes       Yield: 12 servings 1x This Sausage Cream Cheese Casserole recipe is one of the easiest breakfast bakes. With just 3 ingredients you will love the buttery top with the savory and creamy flavours. Perfect to feed a crowd during the holidays for breakfast or brunch!! Ingredients 1 pound (16 ounces) of pork sausage 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 2 (8-ounce) tubes refrigerated crescent rolls   Instructions Preheat the oven to 375°F. Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it is browned. Drain the sausage, then put it back in the skillet. Stir in the cream cheese until it is melted and thoroughly mixed with the sausage. Make sure there are no lumps of cream cheese. Remove from the heat. Unroll one of the tubes of crescent rolls and lay it out flat on an ungreased, nonstick 9×13 baking pan. Press and pinch the seams of the rolls together, making sure there are no gaps in the dough. Spoon the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, but make sure there is about 1⁄2 an inch of space left around the edges. Unroll the second tube of crescent rolls, and carefully lay it on top of the sausage filling. Again, press and pinch the seams together and press the top and bottom layers of crescent rolls around the edges together to ensure that the filling stays inside. Bake for 15-16 minutes or until the crescent roll layer on top is golden brown, and allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes. Slice and serve warm.
