AI and Your Church: How Far Is Too Far?

Is your pastor using ChatGPT to help prepare sermons? Is your Sunday school teacher using Claude to write lessons? And should Christians be turning to AI for Bible study, counseling, or spiritual advice? In this episode of Cloud & Fire, Kelvin and Josiah continue their conversation on Faith & AI by asking where Christians and churches should draw the line.We discuss AI in sermon preparation, pastoral counseling, Bible study, theological research, spiritual advice, and the growing danger of becoming dependent on AI to do our thinking for us.AI can be an incredibly useful tool—but when does a tool begin replacing something it was never meant to replace?📬 JOIN THE UNFILTERED NEWSLETTERGet weekly reflections, channel updates, and announcements about upcoming episodes and guests:https://substack.com/@kelvinsfaithunfiltered

Dan McClellan, “Data Over Dogma,” and the Battle Over the Bible

Dan McClellan has become one of the most influential Bible scholars on social media, building a massive platform around a simple motto: “Data over dogma.”But is his approach really free from dogma? In this episode of Cloud & Fire, Kelvin Anderson and Josiah Spencer examine McClellan’s approach to Scripture, his use of critical scholarship, his stated concern for less powerful groups, and his rejection of inspiration, inerrancy, and univocality as unsupported dogmas. We also step back and ask a bigger question: What happens when the methods we use to study the Bible begin by excluding some of the Bible’s own claims about itself? This isn’t an attempt to answer every argument McClellan has ever made. It’s a challenge to Christians to understand the debate, engage serious scholarship, examine the assumptions behind the conclusions, and do the work necessary to defend what we believe.

Eli Ayala returns to answer your comments!

After our previous discussions generated a number of challenges and responses, we brought some of those objections back to Eli and gave him the opportunity to answer them directly. At the center of the discussion is  @SkepticalAgnostic  demand that one of the cornerstone claims of TAG—the “impossibility of the contrary”—actually be demonstrated. It is not enough to show that the Christian worldview can account for logic, knowledge, and intelligibility. Can the presuppositionalist demonstrate the stronger claim that Christianity is the necessary precondition for them and that the contrary is truly impossible? We asked Eli to answer this challenge, along with many more of your comments and objections.

Cloud & Fire: The Limited Atonement Debate Took an Unexpected Turn

What started as a discussion on Limited Atonement quickly turned into a much deeper conversation.Does Christ's atonement merely make salvation possible, or does it actually accomplish redemption? Can the non-elect experience God's Grace? In this episode of Cloud & Fire, Kelvin Anderson and Josiah Spencer examine the biblical language of redemption, propitiation, substitution, and irresistible grace while wrestling with one of the biggest questions in theology. This conversation moves well beyond the traditional TULIP debate and gets into deeper themes often overlooked.

Cloud & Fire: What started as a reaction to Tim Whitaker’s deconstruction story quickly turned into a much larger conversation.

In Part 2 of this Cloud and Fire discussion, Kelvin Anderson and Josiah Spencer move beyond the initial reaction and begin unpacking the deeper issues surrounding deconstruction, critical scholarship, politics, culture wars, COVID-era Christianity, church distrust, and the modern crisis of faith. This episode is less scripted, more conversational, and gives an inside look at the kinds of discussions many Christians are having behind closed doors right now.Topics include:• Tim Whitaker and deconstruction culture• Critical scholarship and faith• Trump-era Christianity and polarization• COVID and church distrust• Doubt, certainty, and online influence• How Christians process difficult questions without abandoning historic faith

Cloud & Fire: Deconstructionist former Evangelical Tim Whitaker says no one warned him about “the truth.”

So what “truth” does he think he found? In this Cloud & Fire live reaction, we take a closer look at his deconstruction story and the ideas shaping it—especially the influence of modern critical scholarship and how it reframes Scripture. We’re talking about influences and frameworks connected to voices like Peter Enns, Dan McClellan, and others who approach Scripture with a very different set of starting points.Because maybe the real question isn’t:“Why didn’t anyone warn him?”Maybe it’s:Why didn’t he listen?“They went out from us, but they were not of us…”— 1 John 2:19

Romans 11:26 may be one of the most debated verses in the New Testament:“And so all Israel will be saved…”But who is “Israel”?In this episode, Josiah and I push back on each other’s views and wrestle through:Ethnic Israel vs. the ChurchThe olive treeGentiles provoking Jews to jealousyThe remnantWhether Paul expected a future mass conversionThis isn’t an echo chamber discussion. We challenge assumptions and follow the argument where Paul takes it.Drop your view below before watching:Is Romans 11 about national Israel, the Church, or both?#revelationexplained #ROMANS11 #biblestudy #ironsharpensiron #faithandreason

Cloud & Fire: Critical Scholarship and the Myth of Neutrality

In this live episode of Live Fire, we take a serious look at the idea of “neutral” scholarship—especially in light of recent claims that only critical scholars are doing real academic work. Using a reaction to CJ Corthwaite’s argument as a starting point, we step back and ask a bigger question:Is anyone actually neutral when it comes to studying the Bible? What critical scholarship is—and where it came fromThe role of presuppositions in historical and biblical studiesWhether “conservative scholarship” is dismissed for academic reasons… or philosophical ones
