Stop Trying to Build Your Business Alone

Starting a business can feel surprisingly lonely. You may be great at what you do, but suddenly you're also expected to understand marketing, sales, networking, bookkeeping, websites, systems, technology—and dozens of other things you never expected to become an expert in. In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant talks with Vicki James about why solopreneurs don't have to figure everything out on their own. After leaving the corporate IT world to start her own business, Vicki initially believed she could research, plan, and figure things out herself. She discovered that being resourceful wasn't enough. She spent months developing and executing plans that weren't necessarily the right plans because she wasn't talking with people who had already been through the same challenges. That experience changed the direction of her business. In this conversation, you'll learn: • Why trying to figure everything out yourself can actually slow your growth • How community can help you avoid costly mistakes • Why talking with people who have lived experience matters • How AI can help—and where human experience still makes a difference • Why clarity creates momentum • How Vicki's business assessment identifies where a solopreneur is stuck • Why you don't need to fix everything in your business at once • How to identify the next two or three priorities that matter most • Why client acquisition is such a common challenge • How networking, marketing, and sales work together • Why sales doesn't have to feel uncomfortable • How systems can make running your business easier • Why surrounding yourself with people who have different strengths matters • How to decide where to invest your time and money • Why struggling during your first months in business doesn't mean you're failing One of the most important reminders from this conversation is: You can be extremely good at what you do and still not know everything required to build a successful business. That's normal. Instead of spending months trying to learn everything through your own mistakes, surround yourself with people who have already walked the road you're traveling. Sometimes the fastest way forward isn't learning more. It's talking to the right person. vicki@beyondalignedbooks.com Book, https://www.amazon.com/stores/Vicki-James/author/B00D66DGHO?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1783519647&sr=8-1&shoppingPortalEnabled=true https://www.linkedin.com/in/vickipps/ https://alignandthrive.substack.com/ 🎥 Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/fu3ZVH7UqmY TIMESTAMPS00:00 Why You Shouldn't Build Your Business Alone 00:22 Welcome to The Giant Builders 00:37 Meet Vicki James 00:51 From Corporate IT to Entrepreneurship 01:16 Vicki's Hardest Business Lesson 01:46 The Loneliness of Entrepreneurship 02:20 Why Solopreneurs Try to Figure Everything Out 02:37 Discovering What She Really Wanted to Do 03:20 The Cost of Doing Everything Yourself 03:28 When AI Doesn't Have the Whole Answer 03:44 Learning From Other People's Experience 04:20 Clarity Creates Momentum 04:42 Learn From Other People's Mistakes 05:06 Why Community Matters 05:32 Vicki's Business Assessment 06:04 Finding Your Next 2–3 Priorities 06:42 Where Are Most Business Owners Stuck? 06:48 Client Acquisition 07:12 Why Sales Feels Uncomfortable 07:27 Sales as Problem Solving 08:09 What Happens Before the Sales Call 08:17 Building Better Business Systems 08:42 Using Your Different Strengths 09:21 Vicki's Books 09:41 Making Better Business Investments 10:15 Advice for New Business Owners 10:33 Don't Give Up Before the Miracle 10:49 Using the Talents God Gave You 11:21 You Aren't Supposed to Know Everything 12:08 The Four Pillars of The Giant Builders 12:25 Final Thoughts

Why Journaling Can Change How You Handle Life & Business | Janice Debo

What if something as simple as putting pen to paper could help you think more clearly, work through challenges, and recognize just how far you've come? In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant talks with personal development coach, author, and podcast host Janice Debo about courage, confidence, change, and one practice Janice believes can make a meaningful difference: journaling. Janice explains how journaling can help you get thoughts out of your head, reflect on difficult experiences, recognize personal growth, and build confidence for whatever comes next. You'll also discover: • How courage and confidence work together • Why you may not recognize courage until you look back • A simple way to start journaling—even if you've never done it before • How a “brain dump” can help clear your mind • Why going back and reading old journals can be so valuable • How personal challenges can affect your business • Why delegation can be difficult for business owners • How understanding your strengths and weaknesses can help you grow • Why different personalities communicate differently • How Janice uses personal development coaching with individuals and teams • Why finding the right people to walk alongside you matters Janice also shares the story behind her journal, Courage, Confidence, and Connections, and how her own experiences inspired much of her writing. One of the most interesting ideas in this conversation is that we often don't recognize our own courage while we're in the middle of something difficult. Sometimes we have to look back to see what we actually accomplished. 🎥 Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/wrYAyBfDLOk janicedebocoaching@gmail.com Facebook https://www.facebook.com/share/1EPShCF7Ez/?mibextid=wwXIf Facebook business https://www.facebook.com/share/1FdzB7VnN7/?mibextid=wwXIfr Instagram https://www.instagram.com/janicedebo?igsh=NHdhbjV0OG9yYzZk&utm_source=qr 00:00 Why We're Talking About Journaling 00:30 Meet Janice Debo 00:47 Personal Development, Life & Business 01:49 When a Business Problem Is Really a Life Problem 02:07 A Simple Time-Management Exercise 02:22 What Can You Delegate? 04:08 Courage, Confidence & Connections 05:12 Courage vs. Confidence 06:16 Inside Janice's Guided Journal 08:01 Dancing Through the Wreckage 09:42 Learning to Roll With Change 09:55 Who Janice Works With 10:30 Understanding Different Personality Types 12:19 What Happens When a Team Has Too Much “Fire” 13:14 Why Janice Has Her Clients Journal 13:54 How to Start Journaling 14:46 Try a “Brain Dump” 15:33 Why Janice Goes Back and Reads Her Journals 16:15 What Happens in a Coaching Session 16:29 Finding Your Strengths and Weaknesses 17:39 Goals vs. Vision 18:00 Lois's Weekly Google Business Profile Webinar 18:30 How Janice Became a Coach 19:42 From Business Owner to Networking Coach 20:18 The Conversation That Changed Janice's Career 21:06 Janice's First Coaching Client 21:48 From Networking to Personal Development 22:40 Don't Give Up 22:56 Find People Who Will Walk Alongside You OWN A LOCAL BUSINESS? When God Opens a Door: Finding Purpose in Unexpected Opportunities

Sometimes the biggest changes in our lives begin with an opportunity we never expected. In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant talks with Wendy O’Neil, founder of Pearls With Purpose, about faith, purpose, relationships, business, and what can happen when we're willing to follow where God leads. Wendy's journey began more than 20 years ago when she was raising five young children and struggling with a question many people face: Who am I beyond the roles I fill every day? As a certified gemologist, Wendy initially thought she might make and sell jewelry. Then an unexpected email from a woman in the Philippines changed everything. That simple connection eventually grew into Pearls With Purpose, a nonprofit providing vocational and business training to women and communities in developing countries. Today, Wendy's work has reached multiple countries and helped individuals learn skills, start businesses, support their families, educate their children, and create opportunities for future generations. In this conversation, you'll hear about: • How an unexpected email changed the direction of Wendy's life • The heartbreaking story that helped Wendy understand the need she could help address • How Pearls With Purpose grew from four women to multiple countries • Why Wendy believes in providing a “hand up” rather than simply a handout • How basic business skills can transform families and communities • The importance of recognizing opportunities God puts in front of us • Wendy's own journey through divorce, healing, and finding love again • How Wendy and her husband created Unstick the Stuck • Why self-worth affects our relationships with others • Why Wendy and Lois both believe God should come first • How faith creates a foundation for marriage and relationships • What Wendy learned while stranded in Kenya during 2020 • Why the habits you build today can ground you when a crisis comes Near the end of the conversation, Wendy shares a lesson that has stayed with her: Your habits are what will ground you during times of crisis. While stranded thousands of miles from home during an incredibly uncertain time, Wendy continued the habits that had already become part of her life—journaling, studying scripture, taking care of herself, connecting with others, and leaning on her faith. We can't always control what happens around us. But we can build a foundation that helps us remain grounded when life suddenly changes. And sometimes, the opportunity God places in front of us may look nothing like the plan we had for ourselves. 🎥 Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/Rkiro9zjR2E ⁨@PearlsWithPurpose⁩ @unstickthestuck birdwendy5@gmail.com TIMESTAMPS00:00 Be Alert to the Opportunities God Gives You 00:21 Welcome to The Giant Builders 00:30 Meet Wendy O’Neil 00:55 Pearls With Purpose & Unstick the Stuck 01:46 How Wendy's Journey Began 02:19 Rediscovering Her Identity 03:06 The Email That Changed Everything 04:08 Starting With Four Women in the Philippines 05:06 The Story That Changed Wendy's Perspective 06:37 When Wendy Knew She Had to Help 07:16 Growing From Four Women to Multiple Countries 07:52 How Pearls With Purpose Expanded 08:01 Teaching Business Fundamentals 09:00 Creating Businesses in Developing Countries 09:34 Using Local Skills and Resources 10:16 A Hand Up Instead of a Handout 10:31 Changing the Next Generation 11:05 How to Support Pearls With Purpose 11:59 Wendy & Her Husband's Unstick the Stuck Program 13:03 Letting Go of the Past and Moving Forward 13:58 When God Has a Different Plan 15:12 Why They Created Unstick the Stuck 16:18 The Self-Love Revolution 17:08 Understanding How You Respond to Struggles 18:09 What Happens After Taking the Quiz? 19:34 Who Can Benefit From This Work? 20:59 How God Brought This Conversation Together 21:16 The Four Pillars of The Giant Builders 22:12 Putting God First in Your Relationship 23:38 A Final Story of Hope 24:12 Wendy's Experience in Kenya During 2020 25:22 A Letter That Took 17 Months to Arrive 26:39 How People Respond Differently to Crisis 27:16 The Habits That Kept Wendy Grounded 28:21 Know Whose You Are 28:45 Closing Thoughts heck out other episodes Business: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf7Uc6zi2pF9pnIL1foYJ3uVP8z1fCVmZ Health: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf7Uc6zi2pF9QEQ1q2e05K28IjUvLPGJy Spiritual: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf7Uc6zi2pF96jBzfz6QHUegeULd7YEsY Family: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf7Uc6zi2pF_SaLQxs8op1CPSDg_wG8vL Connect with The Giant Builders: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheGiantBuilders Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thegiantbuilders/ YouTube: youtube.com/channel/UCdhZSrC57PyP-QSWIaTeldg?sub_confirmation=1

Stop Cold Calling: How to Build a Business Through Relationships & Referrals | Danny Creed

What if you could grow your business without relying on cold calls and sales pitches? In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant talks with master business coach Danny Creed, who brings decades of experience building businesses, coaching entrepreneurs, and helping business owners grow. Danny shares what business owners need during their first five years—and what needs to change once they've survived those critical early years. You'll learn: • Why every business owner needs to understand sales • Why listening may be your most important sales skill • Why traditional elevator pitches are losing their effectiveness • How to explain what you do in a way that creates curiosity • Why your business needs a clear vision • What changes after your first five years in business • Why you should think about your exit strategy long before you're ready to sell • The three roles every growing business needs • Why owners often spend too much time doing work someone else could do • How Danny's Champions Network generates referrals without cold calling • Why understanding your customer's needs comes before selling • How becoming a trusted advisor can change the sales conversation • Why knowing your true target customer can dramatically change your marketing Danny also shares the philosophy behind his book Champions Never Make Cold Calls and explains how he says 100% of his new coaching clients over the past 18 years came through referrals. One of Danny's most practical lessons is this: Understand your customer's needs from their point of view. Validate that you understand those needs. Then offer to help solve them. Whether you're starting your first business or trying to figure out what's next for an established company, this conversation will make you think differently about sales, growth, referrals, and the business you're building. dcreed@focalpointcoaching.com https://www.businesscoachdan.com/ https://www.businesscoachdan.com/ 00:00 What Every Business Owner Needs to Know 00:42 Meet Master Business Coach Danny Creed 01:06 Danny's Journey Through 17 Startups 04:33 What You Need to Start a Business 05:28 Why You Need a Business Plan 07:16 Can You Explain Your Business in 10 Seconds? 08:04 Every Business Owner Needs to Learn to Sell 09:12 Why Listening Is a Sales Superpower 09:48 Danny's Most Successful Sales Line 11:30 Why the Elevator Pitch Is Dead 12:03 A Better Way to Explain What You Do 13:42 Creating the Right Perception of Your Business 15:17 What Happens After Five Years in Business? 16:40 Survival Thinking vs. Possibility Thinking 18:40 Why You Need an Exit Strategy 20:01 Your Business Needs a Vision 22:24 Do You Know What Your Business Is Worth? 23:32 You Can't Run a Business Without a Destination 24:45 The Three “Eyes” Every Business Needs 26:20 The Five-Year Founder's Trap 26:39 Champions Never Make Cold Calls 28:26 Are You Spending Your Time on the Right Work? 30:36 How Danny Created the Champions Network 31:58 Turn Sales Pitches Into Conversations 33:02 18 Years of Clients From Referrals 34:05 The Secret: Become a Better Listener 35:23 Everybody Knows Someone You Don't 36:25 How to Ask for Referrals Without Selling 39:03 How Customers Choose Who to Contact 40:04 Sell Hope, Not a Package 40:46 Understand Your Customer's Needs 42:24 The Appliance Salesman Who Asked Better Questions 44:06 Why Customers Want a Trusted Advisor 46:21 Is Your Networking Actually Working? 46:48 Do You Really Know Your Target Customer? 47:38 How Changing the Target Customer Grew a Business 49:34 Danny's Closing Advice for Business Owners 52:15 What Danny Learned Working With Men in Prison 53:53 Danny's No-Sales-Zone Business Conversation

Stop Chasing Leads: Build Relationships That Bring Qualified Clients | Brenda Marie Sheldrake

Are you networking—or are you actually building relationships that lead to business? In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant talks with lead generation strategist Brenda Marie Sheldrake about creating a relationship strategy that produces more qualified leads without relying on cold DMs, purchased lists, or “spray and pray” networking. Brenda explains why genuine relationship building requires more than simply connecting with hundreds of people. It means listening, asking thoughtful questions, building trust, creating consistency across your online presence, and knowing exactly who you want to meet. You'll learn: • Why qualified leads are more valuable than simply getting more leads • What a relationship strategy actually looks like • Why warm introductions can outperform cold outreach • How to use LinkedIn to build genuine connections • Why Brenda recommends focusing on two social platforms • How consistency across platforms helps establish trust • A manageable approach to posting and engaging on social media • Why thoughtful comments matter more than automatic responses • How conversations can naturally move from comments to one-on-one relationships • Why giving someone your calendar link isn't a relationship strategy • How to ask someone for a warm introduction • Why relationship building takes time—and why the long-term payoff can be worth it One of the most important lessons from this conversation is simple: Be more interested than interesting. Instead of walking into every networking opportunity asking, “Who can buy from me?”, start asking: “Who should I get to know?” Those relationships can lead to clients, introductions, referrals, collaborations—and sometimes friendships that last far beyond the original business connection. 🎥 Watch the full episode: https://youtu.be/ANswjrM3-BI bizleadsexpert@gmail.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/brendamariesheldrake LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brenda-marie-sheldrake-lead-generation/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/biz_leads_expert/ Website: https://bizleadsexpert.com/ Book a slot on my calendar: bizleadsexpert.com/BizLeadsExpertMeet 00:00 Do You Have a Relationship Strategy? 00:35 Meet Brenda Marie Sheldrake 00:51 Generating Qualified Leads Through Relationships 02:04 What Is a Relationship Strategy? 03:38 Where Should You Build Business Relationships? 04:03 Warm Introductions vs. Cold DMs 05:32 Choosing Your Social Media Platforms 06:51 Why Every Platform Requires a Different Approach 07:14 Why Brenda Recommends Two Platforms 08:01 The Relationship and Trust Deficit 09:28 How Much Time Should You Spend on Social Media? 10:11 Creating a Consistent Posting Schedule 11:16 Batch Your Social Content 11:56 What to Do After You Post 13:21 How to Write Better Social Media Responses 14:20 Turning Engagement Into Real Conversations 15:22 How to Invite Someone to a One-on-One 16:09 How Much Time Does Relationship Building Take? 17:04 Don't Assume Your Scheduled Posts Actually Published 19:00 Why Automatic Responses Can Hurt Relationships 20:44 Why Bots Don't Create Organic Conversations 21:56 Does Every Business Need a Relationship Strategy? 22:45 Why “Meet Everybody” Networking Doesn't Work 24:18 How to Get Warm Introductions 25:14 Listen First Before Trying to Connect 26:14 Find Out Who Already Knows the Person You Want to Meet 26:45 How to Ask Someone for an Introduction 29:16 Why Relationship Building Takes Time 29:54 How Relationships Create Referrals 30:45 Brenda's Final Advice on Building Lasting Relationships

Have you ever felt like you've done everything you know to do...yet you still can't move forward? In this episode of The Giant Builders, Lois Wyant sits down with Sherris Cottier Shank, a psycho-spiritual hypnotherapist, to explore how the subconscious mind influences our thoughts, behaviors, fears, and ability to create lasting change. Through hypnotherapy, she helps people identify and heal those invisible wounds so they can live with greater confidence, peace, and purpose.
