Policing in the Classic City is dynamic, challenging, and rewarding. Using our Real Time Crime Center, we located a sleepwalking student roaming the streets in the early morning hours. Our chief works hand in hand with the director of a local outreach service, but once went hand to hand with him in the streets of Athens, Georgia. As one of the first agencies to establish a Behavioral Health Unit, our officers discuss the challenges and rewards of working with individuals facing mental health challenges.     Our officers are there for you in your time of need, but who can our officers turn to when they need help? After a fatality accident or the death of a child, our officers can ask for help from Chaplains, as well as Peer Support Counselors. Jay Ragsdale retired as a Lieutenant from the ACCPD and now leads these programs.
