Clicker Training Cats with Dr Marci Koski

In this episode we talk about clicker training, how it works, how to do it and why you should add it to your cats life. Dr. Marci Koski is a certified feline behavior and training consultant in Vancouver, Washington, who works with cat guardians all over the world to help cats live their best lives. Her goal is to keep cats in homes and out of shelters by helping cat guardians find solutions to behavior challenges.  She earned specialized and advanced certificates in Feline Training and Behavior from the Animal Behavior Institute, and established her business, Feline Behavior Solutions, in 2014. She also has a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Fishery and Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University and had a career as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for over ten years, where she worked toward the conservation and recovery of threatened and endangered species. Marcihas also volunteered with Furry Friends (a cats-only rescue) since 2014 and joined the Board of Directors in 2016; she donates her time to help new adopters with any behavior concerns they have about their cats. In her spare time, Marci enjoys reading, creating fiber art, spending time with her very supportive husband (Chris), and spoiling her 17-year-old cat, Momo.  Find out more about Marci here: https://felinebehaviorsolutions.com/about-feline-behavior-solutions/ Find out more about Clicker Training here: https://www.youtube.com/c/CatSchool Here are the books: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooperative-Care-Seven-Stress-Free-Husbandry/dp/0578423138 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clicker-Train-Your-Step-Step/dp/1648769454/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3DVG2W1DVXOA8&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VW-V_NEQpc10rrvYaV7uLypXnHEnt3u7cThgjLyUX5ZZ1sDQBOb4xtuV_NXJJ-pZQrJPuTVBGL9zK2iUU-mllguUZL8Y_B9QshPBhtbDAThl_DZxjrdZY1hHHpG5EZAppqEnB-cYidJtpvRyAoEfLAwoXKEsjnCVJ1ILS-ARsHVfNcRjUL8G3oCJbTpnMtJXLIyOyFCt5cR4ckWIYUm07P5uniMdfcsbzDiLsJMQW_I.BZ-Vkg2pDC8usDdiQl1mcY65FG8oRvERiE6ZbGDrqe0&dib_tag=se&keywords=clicker+training+cats&qid=1792161234&s=books&sprefix=clicker+training+cats%2Cstripbooks%2C148&sr=1-2 Leave a voicenote: https://www.speakpipe.com/ContentedCatCast Find out more about St Claws Academy and sign up for the newsletter: https://www.stclawsacademy.co.uk/ Support the podcast and leave a tip if you like: https://st-paws-training-academy.kit.com/products/cat-podcast Watch the Cat Behaviour Online Conference: https://www.facebook.com/catbehaviourconference

Animal Care in the Community with Hannah Shepherd from zumi

Hannah is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with 38 years in the veterinary profession and a proud BVNA member. She’s the founder of zumi, a pet care app that connects pet owners with Registered Vet Nurses for trusted, affordable in-home pet care. The app gives pet owners more accessible options for pet care, supports vet teams in caring for their clients outside the practice, and helps vet nurses use their skills beyond traditional clinical roles.Outside of work you’ll find her hanging out with her family, going to the theatre, de-stressing in a yoga class, or spending time with rescue pals - Loula (terrier x) and Toast Malone (ginger kitty). Hannah is Chair of Trustees for the Michael Guest Charitable Foundation, and a passionate advocate for supporting registered charities. She loves to travel and has spent time abroad volunteering for wildlife protection and conservation. It was great to chat to Hannah and find out more. I am not paid by zumi in any way - I simply think it is a great idea as animal care is an unregulated profession. Grief, art and sharing lives with cats - chatting to lawyer and writer Katia Colitti

Katia and I spoke about grief, art, how community cats in Brazil were helped in such a clever and compassionate way and making science accessible. It was a pleasure to chat to her and it will always be a memorable podcast for many reasons. Katia Colitti is a lawyer and writer whose work has been published in Animal Welfare (Cambridge University Press) and Global Journal of Animal Law. Katia grew up in Ukraine, lived in the U.S. for over a decade, and, since 2012, has been based in Belgium. She has shared her home with three cats for nearly two decades. Her sole remaining feline famiy member is Margo, a playful and communicative 19-year old, who brings joy to every day.  A lifelong ailurophile with an MSc in International Animal Welfare, Ethics, and Law from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at The University of Edinburgh, Katia has a special interest and extensive experience in geriatric and diabetic cat care. Katia writes on Substack about cat health and welfare, the human-cat relationship, cats in the arts, and cat loss grief. Meeting Kris(tine) Hill, an Anthrozoologist, researcher and educator from eCATT

Today’s guest is Kris(tine) Hill, a researcher and founding member of the Cat Academic Think Tank (e-CATT), a cross-disciplinary collective dedicated to the scholarly exploration of cats and human–cat relationships. Her work engages with the cultural, ethical, and social dimensions of feline lives, bringing critical insight to the ways cats shape — and are shaped by — human worlds. Through collaborative research, public scholarship, and participation in forums like the Critical Cat CafĂŠ, Kris(tine) contributes to expanding conversations around more-than-human studies and the serious academic consideration of cats as subjects in their own right. Today, we’ll be diving into her work, her research interests, and what it really means to think critically — and creatively — about cats.
