Adaku - Career, Motherhood and a Life we never planned

What happens when you reconnect with someone who knew you before life took you both in completely different directions? In this episode of The Heart Seat, I sit down with my longtime friend and former colleague Adaku. Our story goes back to Equatorial Guinea, where we worked together, lived together for a time, went to the gym, shared dinners, adventures and the very unique experience of building careers and lives in West Africa. Years later, we reunite for a conversation about who we were then, who we are now, and everything that happened in between. Adaku shares her journey from oil and gas law in Nigeria to renewable energy and energy access across Africa, the opportunities and unexpected turns that shaped her career, and why our lives don’t always need to follow a perfectly mapped-out five or ten-year plan. The conversation goes beyond work. We talk about growing up around strong women, ambition, friendships, motherhood, raising daughters, balancing a serious career with actually enjoying life, and why success shouldn’t require denying yourself pleasure or a full life. There are also plenty of memories, laughter and stories from our Equatorial Guinea days, because some chapters may be over, but they never really leave you. A conversation about Africa, career, friendship, motherhood, intuition, change, and following what excites you even when you have no idea exactly where it will lead. Welcome to The Heart Seat with Adaku. ❤️

Krishini - I Moved for Love, But Found My Own Path

Moving abroad looks exciting from the outside. New country. New city. New experiences. A completely different life. And it can be all of those things. But it also means leaving behind your family, friends, routines, culture and all the tiny familiar things you never realised mattered until they were no longer around you. In this episode of The Heart Seat, I sit down with Krishini, a fellow Mauritian who moved from Mauritius to France to follow her partner and build their life together. And then reality arrived. We talk about the loneliness, culture shock, missing home and those very human moments of wondering, “Why did I move here?” Krishini arrived in France in January, in the middle of winter, while still running her company in Mauritius remotely. She spent much of her time at home, without the natural opportunities to meet people and build a social life. Looking back, it made us talk about something we rarely consider when moving abroad: timing. We prepare visas, accommodation, finances and logistics, but how often do we prepare emotionally? What season are you arriving in? How will you meet people? What will your everyday life actually look like once the excitement of moving disappears? But Krishini’s story didn’t begin in France. Before moving abroad, she had already become an entrepreneur and started a cleaning company in Mauritius. Today, she has built a professional life in France as a consultant, with her journey taking her through projects with organisations including L’Oréal, SNCF and Blédina. And none of that was why she moved to France. She followed her partner. The career came later. The opportunities came later. We also talk about work, the status we attach to certain jobs and whether success always needs to look impressive from the outside. Sometimes happiness is simply having work you enjoy, peace when the working day ends and a life that feels right for you. That’s what I love about this conversation. While we’re living through different chapters, we rarely know where they’re taking us. If you’re thinking about moving abroad, already living away from home, following a partner, changing careers or simply finding yourself on a path you never planned, I hope there’s something in Krishini’s story you can relate to. Sometimes we find happiness by learning how to build something meaningful from the choices we’ve made. Welcome to The Heart Seat. ❤️

Inge - Finding Home Again / Brazil, Motherhood & Healing Through Movement

Some countries leave a stamp in your passport. Others leave a mark on your soul. In this episode of The Heart Seat, I sit down with Inge. We met in Brazil at a time when life was asking both of us some pretty big questions. What begins as a conversation about how we met at Alok’s event unfolds into something much deeper. We talk about why Brazil felt like home, how it impacted us (the nature, the people…) and how living abroad can reshape the way we see ourselves and reshape our connection with home. We explore the healing power of Nia movement, why sometimes our bodies carry emotions our minds haven’t processed yet, and how movement can become a way back to ourselves. We also have an honest conversation about the realities of solo motherhood, why parents deserve more grace than judgment, and what it means to keep showing up every day. Filmed during the World Cup, we naturally found ourselves briefly talking about football, the unity it can create, and the way it brings people together. We also touched on some of the harder conversations happening in South Africa today, especially around xenophobia, belonging, and where these tensions may be coming from. But we also spoke about the South Africa we love. The beauty, the lifestyle, the people, and the parts of the country that still make it so special. And somewhere in between, we talk about confidence, Toastmasters, friendship, and taking life one breath at a time. I hope this conversation reminds you that sometimes the places we visit don’t just change our itinerary. They change us. ❤️

Jessica - Navigating identity and belonging between continents

In this episode of The Heart Seat, Keseena sits down with Jessica Stang, a German Congolese creative who has spent her life navigating identity, belonging, and the quiet complexities of living between two continents. Jessica shares what it feels like to grow up between cultures and to walk through Berlin as someone who carries both African and European roots. She reflects on learning to build an identity that does not fit into one box and on the moments where place, heritage, and perception shape how you see yourself. Together, Keseena and Jessica explore what belonging truly means, what it feels like to be misunderstood, and how mixed identity can be both a strength and a constant journey. The conversation moves through topics like code switching, unconscious bias, and the subtle ways people are seen or unseen in different spaces. Jessica also speaks about reconnecting with her African roots, what travel has opened in her, and how her sense of home shifts depending on where she is. They explore the emotional experience of holding more than one culture, the beauty of it, and the weight of it, especially in places where identity is easily labelled. From Berlin to Congo and the many in between spaces, Jessica brings honesty, warmth, and clarity to her story. Her reflections offer grounding for anyone who has ever felt in between worlds or who is still learning how to define home for themselves. A thoughtful and human conversation for listeners exploring culture, identity, heritage, and the lifelong journey of becoming who they truly are. ✨The Heart Seat – Where stories meet soul. ✨ Instagram: @the.heart.seat Hosted by @keseena_ch Explore more at keseena.com
