    Can large dogs fly in the airplane cabin? ITA Airways is changing what’s possible for pet travel in Italy. Beginning in August 2026, ITA Airways introduced a new service allowing large dogs weighing up to 30 kg (66 lbs) to travel in the cabin with their pet parents on select domestic flights within Italy. In this episode, we break down how ITA Airways’ new large dog in-cabin policy works, including weight limits, seating arrangements, booking requirements, fees, safety rules, and what pet parents need to prepare before flying. Unlike traditional in-cabin pet policies that require dogs to remain inside a carrier under the seat, eligible larger dogs can travel in a dedicated floor space next to their owner when the required additional seat is purchased. Travelers must also meet specific safety requirements, including an approved harness and required documentation. Importantly, this new policy currently applies only to eligible domestic ITA Airways flights within Italy.
