    One of Largest Reported Ukrainian Drone Raids of the War

    I examine Russia’s claim that it downed 1,214 Ukrainian UAVs across 19 regions while Ukrainian forces reportedly struck targets far behind the front: a drone depot, drone port, and fuel site in Bryansk; the Bashkir Soda Company in Bashkortostan; and Marinovka airbase in Volgograd. A NASA FIRMS-detected fire near newly built hangars at Marinovka matters because the base supports Su-34 operations, Russia’s principal platform for launching guided glide bombs. The Bashkortostan target also reportedly produces a chemical compound used in Kevlar-type body armor fibers. I also cover Russia’s drone attack on a railway platform in Dnipro, where the reported death toll rose to 14, and a separate strike on an apartment building in Kremenchuk.     Trump Moves to Block Alaska’s Result. Here’s Why

    I examine the Alaska Senate controversy over Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a retired teacher whose name closely matches Republican incumbent Dan S. Sullivan. The Alaska Supreme Court allowed the namesake candidate to remain on the ballot, and he won 2.5% in the primary—enough to matter if the general election is close. President Trump responded by demanding prosecution and discussing efforts to block certification if Democrat Mary Peltola wins. I separate the political and legal questions.     Don Jr. Went Hunting With His Putin-Linked Benefactor

    I examine the Financial Times report that Donald Trump Jr. stayed at a remote Mongolian hunting camp with Umar Kremlev, a businessman described as close to Vladimir Putin, while hunting Altai argali sheep. The report also places Russian businessman Artur Maturosov, a partner at the U.S.-sanctioned Voskhod fund, on the trip and says the group avoided joint photographs. Trump Jr. later reportedly met Mongolia’s president in what was described as an unofficial conversation. I do not treat these facts as proof of corruption or a hidden deal.     OLESHKY Humanitarian Ceasefire Holds (For Now)

    OLESHKY HOLDS --- I examine the sharply contrasting developments of October 27: a U.S.-brokered humanitarian ceasefire around Russian-occupied Oleshki appeared to hold long enough to begin aid deliveries and prepare civilian evacuations, while Russia launched 16 ballistic missiles and more than 280 drones against Ukraine.
