Smoke and Steel

Walt White

Smoke & Steel is what happens when a group of cigar-smoking degenerates grab a mic and let the conversation roll. Born in a garage, raised in a lounge, and fueled by good cigars and unfiltered stories — this podcast is part hangout, part therapy session, and part "what the hell did he just say?" We don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we don’t expect you to either. Expect real talk, ridiculous laughs, and the kind of banter that usually stays behind lounge doors. Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s dumb, but it’s always real. Hosted by a rotating crew of misfits from all walks of life

[E056] We Finally Gave a Cigar a Perfect Score

We built our own cigar rating system this week and used it for the first time. Five swords, one through five, no half points. By the end of the night, one cigar walked away with a perfect score. Plasencia sent us two boxes to open on camera, each one loaded with a magnetic lid, matching lighter, and cutter. One stayed with the crew, the other went to Eric, who's been running our social media all year and finally got something back for it. From there we worked through what everyone smoked, talked through the price increases hitting some of our go-to sticks like Tatuaje's Monster Series and Black Label's Bishop Blends, and got sidetracked into a long conversation about AI tracking, toll cameras, and how much of your day gets logged without you noticing. Bruce also joins partway through and tells us about his move from Cigar Mojo to Chartwell Cigar Club. Smoke and Steel records every Tuesday night in a garage in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Same crew, same cigars, same conversations they were already having before the cameras turned on. [E054] Eddie Bought Out a Vape Shop's Whole Cigar Case

Eddie walked into a vape shop looking for nothing in particular and walked out having bought every Plasencia they had in stock. Old Plasencia short fillers sitting next to current Alma Fuerte hexagons, priced like nobody behind the counter knew what they had. The price has already gone up since we recorded this. Smoke and Steel records every Tuesday night in a garage in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Same crew, same cigars, same conversations we were already having before the cameras turned on. This week the table gets into a $1,200 spinning humidor that showed up on Rob's porch, a full rundown of what everybody bought during the Father's Day sales, and a debate about who we'd actually pick to blend a cigar if we ever made one. Crown Heads and LFD both come up more than once. Later on we get into the economics of why a cigar that costs a couple bucks to make can sell for twenty, why an Opus X gets flipped for triple retail and nobody seems mad about it, and the ongoing argument about buying by the box versus buying five-packs. [E053] The Saint Who Asked for a Cigar Instead of Anesthesia

Bruce heard a saint story this week that stopped the whole table. A Polish soldier asked for a cigar instead of anesthesia before his leg was amputated in 1863, and he ended up canonized. We also get a full report on the new Chartwell Cigar Club, a mystery grudge nine years in the making, and way too much talk about Connecticut wrappers. Smoke and Steel records every Tuesday night in a garage in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Same crew, same cigars, same conversations we were already having before the cameras turned on. Tonight it's Mark, Bruce, Eric the Elder, Jim, and Walt, with Eric Drumheller out for his daughter's birthday. We talk shipping horror stories, SiriusXM negotiating tactics, the etiquette of bringing your own cigar box into a shop, and the Kelner 80th out of the LACC Collective Pack. Somewhere in there Bruce gets badmouthed by a stranger at his own cigar lounge, and nobody can figure out why. [052] Sean Drove Two Hours to Ambush Us With Our Own Bingo Board

Sean from The Burnable was in Jersey for work this week, and instead of resting on his day off, he made the two-hour drive out to sit in the garage with us for the first time. It also happened to be the hottest day of the year. What we didn't know is he'd spent months quietly turning our own catchphrases into a bingo board. We cut into a mystery cigar Sean brought with a custom Smoke and Steel and Burnable collaboration band, then got into how his site actually works. He doesn't take sponsorships, he smokes every cigar at least twice before he trusts a score, and every review lives as a page that keeps updating instead of a one-and-done writeup. We also got into the story behind Big Iron, why Sean skips the retrohale entirely, a travel lighter setup worth stealing before your next trip, and where the generational tobacco ban conversation is headed. [E057] One Year in the Garage, Two New LACC Cigars

We hit our one year anniversary and celebrated it by catching up with the LACC guys, going around the table on our favorite moments from the past twelve months, and watching Kyle finally tell Eric about a cigar two years in the making. Smoke and Steel records every Tuesday night in a garage in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Same crew, same cigars, same conversations we were already having before the cameras turned on. This week Kyle and Big Rob joined us remote from LA Cigar Collective in Louisiana with a full slate of news: a new Lampert Black Card retailer partnership, the Le Flambeaux No. 3 house blend built with Klaas Kelner, and the Voodoo Queen, a Stolen Throne collaboration modeled after the long-discontinued Phantom Queen that Eric never stopped talking about. We also got into the Gris Gris Toro coming back into production, HDA's move to the Rojas factory, and the Smoke and Steel merch drop. Mostly, though, this one's about a year of doing this together and the people who showed up for it. [E051] The Johnny Tobacconaut Is Sold Out

The Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut keeps coming up in the garage. This week we went to reorder and found out nearly every size is gone on Cigar Page. That's not a sponsored talking point - that's just what happens when a cigar earns it. Episode 51 of Smoke and Steel, recording every Tuesday night out of a garage in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Rob is officially a grandfather. We got into the Gris Gris Lonsdale from LACC, the Definition Big Iron, the Oz Family Karatoba, and the ChiMolly Dynasty, among others. Walt had a frustrating run-in with Cigar Page customer service after a processing error left him with a charge and no order - and the contrast with how Cigar Outlet handled a shipping problem the same week was hard to ignore. We also talked beach smoking bans, the cellophane-on-or-off debate that never dies, rest time after delivery, and whether cigar club memberships are actually worth the entry fee. On the show side: the new Smoke and Steel Box Pass travel case is here, built by a craftsman named Jim Pacquet with custom cedar trays inside an Apache case — a gift from Jason, who also tucked in a Liga Privada Savage Feast that Eric mentioned looking for a while back. The merch shop is days away. And our fan appreciation episode with Brad, Jason, Joe, Sean the Burnable, and Matt dropped this week for Discord members. 👉 If you enjoy this video, please like, comment, and subscribe for more cigar talk every week. 🔗 Connect With Us: 🌐 Website: https://stogiereview.com/ 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/StogieReview/ 📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stogiereview/ 💬 Discord: https://discord.gg/8h5tuYaqJV ☕ Support us on Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/stogiereview 👕 Check out our NEW MERCH: https://www.stickermule.com/stogiereview 📧 Email: Walt@StogieReview.com CHAPTERS 0:00 Welcome to Episode 51 1:36 Rob's First Grandkid 3:50 What Everybody's Smoking 7:23 How Was Everybody's Week 7:42 You Can't Smoke in Jersey Anymore 16:30 Rob's Traffic Ticket Tribunal 20:11 Did Anyone Buy Anything 23:00 Cigar Page Customer Service Fail 25:15 Cigar Outlet Does It Right 30:05 Cigar Page Alternatives and Bad Smokes 32:07 Cellophane On or Off 35:35 Tabernacles, Packaging, and Rest Time 41:30 Killing a Cigar You Don't Like 45:06 The Johnny Tobacconaut Case 53:27 The New Box Pass Case 57:46 Jason and the Savage Feast 1:01:29 Cigar Page Deals Drying Up 1:03:20 Discord Updates and Fan Appreciation Episode 1:04:13 Facebook Numbers in the Green 1:15:33 What Walt Bought This Week 1:18:22 Eric Joins the Garage 1:19:00 Congratulations Rob, Round Two 1:22:05 Merch Shop Is Almost Here 1:23:44 LACC and the Lampert Black Card 1:26:31 Walt's Chair Situation 1:34:50 Scooters, Kids, and Summer 1:38:14 Pool Rules and Cautionary Tales 1:40:55 Tatuaje Pork Tenderloin Appearance 1:47:57 Theme Song Sends Us Out

[E050] You've Changed Too Much to Love It the Same Way

We asked the Stogie Review Facebook Crew what discontinued cigar they'd bring back if they could. Thirty-seven comments came in. Then Rob said something that stopped the whole conversation cold - even if you could guarantee the same tobacco, same roller, same run, you've changed too much to love it the same way. That's Episode 050. This week it's a lighter crew in the garage - Walt, Rob, Jim, and Eric. With a La Aurora Cameroon, a Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut, a PDR Cigars Small Batch Reserve Maduro, and a Lawless by Black Label Trading Co. in the rotation. The discontinued smokes list runs long: old school Camacho Triple Maduros, Leaf by James, the Room 101 13th Anniversary pink band, Cuban Davidoffs, Padilla Signature 1932, and a few none of us had ever heard of before the comments rolled in. Skip Martin's take on the whole thing is worth sticking around for. We also get into the cigar lounge versus online pricing debate - a conversation that keeps coming back because the industry keeps changing and so do our habits. Plus an update on the October trip to the LA Cigar Collective, Sean from The Burnable coming to the garage in person, and Jason's custom travel humidor finally making its way to us. 👉 If you enjoy this video, please like, comment, and subscribe for more cigar talk every week. 🔗 Connect With Us: 🌐 Website: https://stogiereview.com/ 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/StogieReview/ 📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stogiereview/ 💬 Discord: https://discord.gg/8h5tuYaqJV ☕ Support us on Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/stogiereview 👕 Check out our NEW MERCH: https://www.stickermule.com/stogiereview 📧 Email: Walt@StogieReview.com CHAPTERS 0:00 Welcome to Episode 050 0:18 Light Crew, Heavy Rotation 1:05 Walt Runs Into Abe at Smoke-onos 2:10 The Blackened S84 Conversation 4:24 Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut — Box Orders and Availability 5:46 Online Orders, Shipping Chaos, and Cigar Page 9:03 What We Bought This Week 15:14 Plasencia Deep Dive 23:28 Humidor Talk — Beads, Boveda, and Cooler Builds 30:31 Eric Joins the Garage 39:24 The One-Dimensional Cigar Question 42:41 Discontinued Cigars — 37 Comments From the Discord 50:01 Cigar Lounge vs Online Pricing 1:00:07 What the Best Lounges Actually Built 1:15:36 AJ Brown Trade — Sports Corner 1:17:09 Officer Down — Local News 1:18:46 The LACC Trip Takes Shape 1:25:35 Sean From The Burnable Is Coming to the Garage 1:31:25 Fan Engagement and Top Supporters
