  2. Episode 9: What IF Filipino Psychology Changed How We Understand Ourselves?

    Apr 23

Episode 9: What IF Filipino Psychology Changed How We Understand Ourselves?

In this What If conversation, we explore Filipino psychology — also known as Sikolohiyang Pilipino — and how it offers a different way of understanding the self, relationships, and healing. Together, we talk about key concepts within Filipino psychology and how they contrast with more individualistic, Western frameworks. This conversation opens up questions around identity, culture, and the ways our understanding of the self is shaped by the worlds we come from. Rather than seeing healing as something purely internal, Filipino psychology invites a more relational and culturally rooted perspective — one that considers community, shared experience, and connection. Whether you’re familiar with these ideas or hearing them for the first time, this episode offers space to reflect on how culture shapes the way we make sense of ourselves — and what it might mean to see the self differently. Jezreel Cornel graduated from San Diego State University's MS in Marriage and Family Therapy program with a focus on Narrative Therapy and received clinical training in the San Diego Unified Outpatient Program as a school-based therapist. Alongside his formal education, Jez studied Sikolohiyang Pilipino (Filipino Psychology) through conversation with established Filipino/a/x mental health professionals and reviewing existing literature. Jez is a community organizer through San Diego Kababayan, and supports Kasamahan’s Board of Directors with social media and resources.  You can find more information about him at:  https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/jezreel-mejia-cornel-san-diego-ca/1721755 https://www.solpathwellness.com/solpathteam https://www.kasamahan.org/about-us Your host is Jaclyn Tyson. Jan 28

Episode 6: WHAT IF Therapy Made Space For Hmong Shamanic Practices?

Michi Marks (she/they) is a Hmong American Marriage and Family Therapist–in-training, integration and implementation coach, and spiritual practitioner whose work bridges Western psychotherapy with ancestral animist traditions. Their approach draws from liberation psychology, experiential therapies, and systems thinking, with a focus on relational, embodied, and contextual healing.  Michi identifies as neurodivergent, queer, genderfluid, and bicultural — identities that inform their commitment to liberatory and culturally rooted approaches to wellness. Michi is currently completing their MFT training and hopes to eventually apprentice formally within the Hmong shamanic tradition. Their work centers the belief that healing is not only individual but ancestral, communal, and relational. To learn more or stay connected, you can read Michi’s Substack, where they write about lineage, identity, and books that have shaped their thinking. If you’re interested in working with Michi clinically, you can reach out through Edges Wellness or Psychology Today. They are currently only accepting couples and families at this time.  Their substack: Figuring it Out with Michi Edges info: michi@edgeswellness.com, https://edgeswellness.com  Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/michi-marks-menomonie-wi/1578532 Other Resources to Check out to learn more about shamanism:  https://whyshamanismnow.com https://www.youtube.com/@SoulandSelfCollective https://www.youtube.com/@ShamanMemoirs/videos https://pengher.wixsite.com/pengher - where they learned how to do qi gong that focused more on spirituality and energy renewal.  Your host is Jaclyn Tyson. 4. Episode 5: WHAT IF We Remembered the Roots of Chinese Medicine?

    12/24/2025

Episode 5: WHAT IF We Remembered the Roots of Chinese Medicine?

In this episode of Sacred Tea & Nourished Souls, I sit down with an acupuncturist to explore the question: What If We Remembered the Roots of Chinese Medicine? Together, we talk about honoring lineage, cultural context, and the spiritual foundations of Chinese medicine — and how these roots can become obscured when the practice is removed from its history and community. This conversation invites listeners to reflect on healing not just as a technique, but as cultural memory, responsibility, and relationship. Whether you’re a practitioner, a patient, or simply curious about holistic healing, this episode offers space to consider how medicine can be practiced with respect, intention, and connection to its origins. Li-Lan Hsiang Weiss has been a practicing acupuncturist in Durham, NC since 2005. She was one of the first acupuncturists in her area to hold a community acupuncture clinic for the Spanish speaking community for over 10 years.  She is the founder of Armonia Health LLC, an acupuncture, massage, and shamanic healing wellness center in Durham with Spanish and English-speaking practitioners. Li-Lan's current interest, from 20 years of clinical practice, includes reflecting and sharing on the Five Path/Element model for systems where it is not traditionally applied, such as in running a heart-centered business, in inner resiliency trainings for non-profits involved in climate and social justice, in collaboration with the creative arts, and in healing trends pertinent to her community in the American South. She is interested in exploring through conversations how the worldview of Chinese medicine can be applicable in other areas.   Medum article referencing this podcast and more information: https://medium.com/@lilanhuichun/decolonizing-chinese-medicine-3dbc69d1170c To find more about her work: Https://armoniahealth.com  FB , IG, Youtube Armonia Health LLC Five Paths and Music on Youtube @tonesforyourbones1464 Li-Lan's IG @earthheavenlunasol Your host is Jaclyn Tyson. 5. Episode 3: WHAT IF We Carry More Than Our Own Pain?

    09/08/2025

Episode 3: WHAT IF We Carry More Than Our Own Pain?

In this episode, we explore the layers of intergenerational trauma—the emotional wounds and patterns silently passed from one generation to the next. Through the lens of depth psychology, we look at how unconscious material, family narratives, and ancestral experiences continue to shape the way we show up in everyday life. From relationship dynamics and self-worth struggles to the ways we cope with stress, these inherited imprints often linger beneath the surface. We also discuss pathways toward healing: cultivating awareness, engaging therapeutic practices, and learning how to rewrite the stories we’ve been carrying. If you’re curious about how the past lives on within us—and how to break free from cycles of pain—this conversation offers both insight and practical tools for transformation. About our guest:  Keren Goldenberg, LMFT, is a psychotherapist, supervisor, and PhD student based in Los Angeles. As the founder of Sunray Psychotherapy, Keren works at the intersection of depth psychology, trauma, and cultural identity. Their clinical focus includes complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, and cultural complexes—those inherited cultural wounds and narratives that shape how individuals and communities see themselves across generations. With training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and EMDR, Keren helps clients explore how personal struggles often reflect larger family and cultural patterns. Drawing on both professional expertise and lived experience as a first-generation immigrant, Keren’s work supports people in loosening the grip of inherited trauma and reclaiming their sense of self. At Sunray Psychotherapy, the mission is to create space for clients to not only heal the burdens of the past but also imagine new futures where resilience, creativity, and connection take root.
