Trauma Bonds: When Love Becomes a Cage

Click here to email, I'd love to hear your thoughts! A trauma bond isn't simply loving someone who has hurt you. It's the pattern that can develop when harm, instability, manipulation, control, criticism, or emotional abuse are repeatedly followed by love, affection, relief, reconciliation, and connection. And sometimes, without even realizing it, we begin building our lives around avoiding someone else's reactions, or even punishment. We make the accommodation. We keep the peace. We stop going places. We stop saying what we really think. We convince ourselves, “It's fine. It's not a big deal.” Until one day, we look around and wonder: When did I stop doing the things that made me happy? In this episode, we're talking about trauma bonds, self-abandonment, the difference between caregiving and caretaking, and how we can slowly put ourselves in an invisible cage without realizing we're building one. I'll also walk you through a simple exercise to help you identify the places where your choices may have quietly become about managing someone else's reactions instead of honoring what you actually want. Because sometimes the first step toward freedom isn't leaving the relationship. Sometimes, it's finding your way back to your own voice. And if you're worried that someone you love may be caught in a trauma bond, this episode may also give you language for something you've been struggling to name. You don't always see the cage when you're inside it. Spiritual Bypassing: Are You Healing Your Relationship… or Just Avoiding the Shit?

Click here to email, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Spiritual Bypassing: Are You Healing Your Relationship… or Just Avoiding the Shit? What if your spiritual practice is helping you feel better… but isn't actually helping you change what's happening? In this episode of The Uncaged Feminine, we're talking about one of the sneakiest forms of avoidance I see in spiritual healing: spiritual bypassing in dysfunctional and toxic relationships. And before you think I'm about to come for Reiki, cord-cutting, chakras, or spirituality in general—girl, no. 😂 I'm a deeply spiritual person myself, and I believe spiritual practices can be incredibly meaningful and supportive. But there's a difference between using spirituality as a tool for healing and using spirituality to explain away shit that's happening right in front of you. I share what happened when I received a newsletter describing painful relationships as karmic soul contracts—and why my internal radar immediately screamed: “Ma'am. Something is missing!” Because when we're talking about betrayal, manipulation, repeated lies, destabilizing highs and lows, codependency, trauma bonds, boundary violations, and patterns that keep us stuck, a spiritual explanation can become problematic when it becomes the explanation. We'll explore: Why calling a painful relationship a “karmic contract” can sometimes make suffering feel like a spiritual assignmentHow spiritual bypassing can keep us focused on lessons, energy, and destiny while ignoring observable behaviourThe difference between understanding someone's wounds and taking responsibility for healing themWhy your own subconscious patterns can contribute to the toxicity of a relationship without making you responsible for someone else's abusive behaviourCodependency, trauma bonds, attachment patterns, boundaries, and childhood conditioningWhy emotional relief isn't necessarily the same thing as resolutionHow Reiki and cord-cutting can support healing without becoming substitutes for the deeper workWhy a cord-cutting ritual is not the same thing as a boundaryAnd the uncomfortable possibility that sometimes healing yourself means deciding you no longer need to participate in the relationshipYou can believe a relationship has a karmic component and acknowledge that someone is behaving badly. You can receive Reiki and do the shadow work. You can perform a cord-cutting ritual and set an actual boundary. Spirituality doesn't have to compete with reality. It just can't be used to avoid it. And sometimes… the lesson isn't how to stay. Sometimes the lesson is that you don't have to keep participating in the lesson.
