Life Between Languages | Season 2, Episode 3

What does it feel like to live, work and dream between English, French and Setswana? In this episode of Lydiah En Mouvement, I explore the space between languages and everything that exists there: identity, culture, belonging, work, travel, communication and becoming. For me, language has never been just about words. English, French and Setswana each hold different memories, experiences and parts of who I am. As a teacher, translator and interpreter, I’ve spent years moving between languages and helping people move meaning from one world to another. But living between languages has also made me think differently about identity. Are we the same person in every language? Can you translate a feeling? What happens when you move between cultures and find yourself adapting to different spaces? And can learning another language actually change the way you understand yourself? This is a conversation about language, but also about movement , moving between cultures, careers, identities and versions of ourselves. Maybe we’re all translating something in life: our experiences into meaning, our dreams into reality, and who we were into who we’re becoming. 🎙️ Welcome to Lydiah En Mouvement , sometimes walking, sometimes crawling, but always growing.

Through personal reflection and lived experience, this conversation highlights the importance of consistency over motivation and identity over quick results. If you’re in a season of rebuilding or trying to create a more intentional life, this episode is an invitation to start small — and stay consistent.

Why Is There So Much Vandalism in Our Schools

In this episode of Lydiah en Mouvement, we dive deep into a difficult but necessary conversation: Why are our schools in Botswana experiencing so much vandalism? And more importantly—what does this say about our students, our systems, and our society? From broken windows to stolen equipment, burnt classrooms to graffiti-covered walls… the issue goes beyond “bad behaviour.” It’s about: ✨ student frustration ✨ broken communication ✨ lack of engagement ✨ environments that don’t inspire learning ✨ and a school culture that feels disconnected from the world students live in As a teacher, interpreter, traveller, and African woman “in movement,” I unpack this topic through the lens of real experience — not statistics alone. This episode explores: The emotional and social reasons behind vandalismHow school environments affect student identityWhy discipline alone won’t fix the problemA call to rethink how we create safe, inspiring spaces for young peopleWhat educators, parents, and policymakers can do differently Whether you are a teacher, parent, student, or someone who cares about the future of Botswana’s education system, this conversation is for you.
