    Saved Forever… As Long As You Persevere? | Grace Uncensored

    Grace... Or No Choice

    I’d love to hear from you. Does God irresistibly cause certain people to believe, or does His grace genuinely invite people to respond? In Episode 66 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald examines Irresistible Grace, the “I” in TULIP, and asks whether God’s drawing makes faith inevitable. What do John 6, John 12, Acts 7, and Romans 4 actually say about grace, faith, human response, and resisting the Holy Spirit? Christians often say God wants a real relationship with us. But if God changes someone in such a way that choosing anything else becomes impossible, is that still a genuine response? That’s the tension at the heart of Irresistible Grace. In this episode, Billy looks carefully at what supporters of Irresistible Grace actually mean, while asking whether Scripture requires us to believe that God’s grace must be irresistible in order to truly be grace. Jesus said no one can come unless the Father draws them. But Jesus also said He would draw all people to Himself. So what does “draw” really mean? Does drawing mean forcing an unavoidable response? Or can God genuinely draw, convict, reveal, invite, and pursue while still allowing someone to resist? Acts 7 gives us some remarkably direct language: “You always resist the Holy Spirit.” So if Scripture describes people resisting God, what does that mean for Irresistible Grace? And what about faith? If someone chooses to believe, have they contributed to their salvation? Romans 4 makes an important distinction between works and faith. Faith doesn’t compete with grace. Faith receives what Jesus has already accomplished. Most importantly, this isn’t just a theological argument. These ideas affect how people see God, how they understand salvation, and whether they live with confidence in Christ or constantly wonder if they were really chosen, really changed, or really accepted. This verse is often used to support Irresistible Grace, but the key question in this episode is what Jesus means by “draw.” John 12:32 Jesus says that when He is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself. This raises an important question: if drawing automatically means causing someone irresistibly to believe, why don’t all people believe? Acts 7:51 Stephen tells his listeners, “You always resist the Holy Spirit.” The passage shows people genuinely resisting the work and conviction of the Holy Spirit.     Jesus Died for the World... Except Most of It?

    Chosen Before You Believed… Or Chosen Because You’re In Christ?

    I’d love to hear from you. What does the Bible really mean when it says believers are chosen, elect, and predestined?  Does Unconditional Election mean God selected certain individuals for salvation before they were born, or is election centered in Christ?  In Episode 64, Billy McDonald examines Ephesians 1, Romans 9, Romans 10, predestination, election, faith, and the genuine invitation of the gospel. The “U” in TULIP stands for Unconditional Election. But what exactly does that mean? In this episode of Grace Uncensored, we look at one of the most debated teachings in Christianity and ask whether God chose particular individuals for salvation before the foundation of the world while passing over everyone else. Or is Paul making a different point when he says believers were “chosen in Him”? We take a closer look at Ephesians 1 and Paul’s repeated emphasis on being in Christ. We also examine Jacob and Esau in Romans 9, Paul’s conclusion that the Gentiles received righteousness by faith, the “everyone” invitation of Romans 10, and the statement in 1 Timothy 2 that God wants all people to be saved. Salvation is completely by grace. Faith doesn’t earn the gift. Faith receives what Christ has already provided. So does believing somehow make salvation less gracious? Does “everyone who calls” really mean everyone? Was Romans 9 written to explain which individuals were chosen for heaven and hell, or was Paul dealing with something much larger in God’s covenant plan? And what does it mean for your assurance when Paul says you were chosen in Christ, included in Christ, and sealed with the Holy Spirit? The good news doesn’t merely deal with sin. It gives the believer a new identity in Christ. Hebrews 10:14  Christ’s one offering has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. His sacrifice accomplished something complete and lasting. Ephesians 1:3–5  God has blessed believers with every spiritual blessing in Christ, chose us in Him before the creation of the world, and predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ. This is the central passage in the episode’s discussion of election. Ephesians 1:11  Paul says, “In him we were also chosen,” continuing the chapter’s repeated emphasis that God’s blessings, inheritance, and purpose for believers are found in Christ. Ephesians 1:13  Paul says the Gentile believers heard the message of truth, believed the gospel, were included in Christ, and were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Romans 9:10–13  Jacob and Esau are discussed before either had done anything good or bad. The episode asks whether Paul is describing individual eternal destinies or God’s choice concerning His covenant purpose. Romans 9:30  Paul says the Gentiles, who weren’t pursuing righteousness, obtained righteousness by faith. This helps show where Paul’s Romans 9 argument is heading. Romans 10:9  Paul says that if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:13  “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” The episode asks a simple but important question: does everyone really mean everyone? 1 Timothy 2:3–6  Paul says God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth, and that Christ gave Himself as a ransom for all people.     BELIEVE AND BE SAVED... BUT YOU CAN’T BELIEVE UNTIL YOU’RE SAVED?

    I’d love to hear from you. Does Total Depravity really mean you’re incapable of believing in Jesus unless God makes you spiritually alive first?  Can someone who is “dead in sin” respond to the gospel, or must regeneration happen before faith?  In Episode 63 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald takes a closer look at the “T” in TULIP and asks whether Total Depravity has become Total Inability. Most Christians agree that humanity is fallen, sin is serious, and nobody can save themselves. But does “You can’t save yourself” also mean “You can’t respond to the One who came to save you”? That’s where the Christian Double-Talk begins. We’re told salvation is a free gift, but sometimes we’re also told that if we can freely receive that gift, we’ve somehow contributed to our salvation. We’re told no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them. But Jesus also says that when He is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself. So what does it mean to be drawn? Does drawing mean forcing? What does the Bible mean when it says we were “dead” in our sins? Does regeneration really have to come before faith? And does receiving God’s gift of salvation somehow mean we earned it? In this episode, we’re separating our complete inability to save ourselves from the question of whether we can respond when God reaches toward us with His grace. Because receiving the gift doesn’t mean you earned it. Trusting Jesus is simply receiving what He’s already done. Ephesians 2:1  Paul describes humanity apart from Christ as “dead” in transgressions and sins, raising the question of what spiritual death actually means.     GOD IS SOVEREIGN... SO DOES THAT MEAN HE CONTROLS EVERYTHING?

    I’d love to hear from you. Does God’s sovereignty mean He determines every decision, every tragedy, every sin, and every human response?  Can God be completely sovereign while people still make real choices and remain responsible for those choices?  What do sovereignty, predestination, election, free will, and human responsibility actually look like when we open Scripture and ask some honest questions? In Episode 62 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald begins a new mini-series by looking at the question underneath some of Christianity’s biggest theological debates: When we say God is sovereign... what do we actually mean? This episode isn’t questioning whether God is sovereign. It’s asking whether sovereignty automatically means determinism. If God determines everything that happens, what do we do with human responsibility? What do we do with evil? Can God know what someone will choose without causing that choice? Can God allow people to resist Him and still remain completely sovereign? And can God take something intended for evil and bring good from it without having determined the evil itself? These aren’t gotcha questions, and this isn’t about choosing theological teams. It’s about opening the Bible, looking honestly at what it says, and asking whether some of the things Christians say actually fit together. Because what we believe about God’s sovereignty doesn’t just affect theology. It affects how we see tragedy, suffering, prayer, salvation, other people, and ultimately what we tell the world God is like. SCRIPTURES QUOTED & REFERENCED Psalm 115:3 “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.” God has absolute authority. The question raised in this episode is whether God’s ability to control everything means He chooses to determine every human decision. James 1:13 God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. The passage emphasizes God’s character as we consider the relationship between His sovereignty and human evil. Genesis 50:20 Joseph tells his brothers that they intended evil against him, but God intended it for good. The episode uses Joseph’s story to consider the difference between human evil and God bringing good from what happened. Matthew 23:37 Jesus says He longed to gather Jerusalem’s children, but “you were not willing.” The passage places Jesus’ expressed desire alongside human unwillingness and resistance. 2 Peter 3:9 God is patient, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” This passage raises questions about God’s desire for people to come to repentance and the reality of human response. Acts 2:23 Jesus was handed over according to God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge, while those who crucified Him were held responsible for what they did.     Your Sins Are Forgiven... Unless You Don’t Confess Them?

    I’d love to hear from you. Are your sins really forgiven once for all, or only after you confess each one?  Does unconfessed sin break fellowship with God?  Episode 61 of Grace Uncensored tackles one of Christianity’s biggest forgiveness contradictions. We say Jesus paid for every sin. Then we say you’d better confess each one or something between you and God remains unresolved. So which is it? In this episode, Billy McDonald looks at confession, forgiveness, repentance, fellowship with God, the Lord’s Prayer, and the New Covenant reality of what Jesus actually accomplished at the cross. What happens to sins you forgot to confess? Does forgiveness depend on your memory? Can sin break your union with Christ? Do Christians need to keep “short accounts” with God? And what does 1 John 1:9 really mean when compared with the rest of the New Testament teaching on forgiveness? Grace doesn’t teach us to ignore sin. Grace gives us the freedom to face sin honestly without fear, shame, or the belief that we’ve fallen out of God’s family. You’re not maintaining forgiveness. You’re living from forgiveness. SCRIPTURES REFERENCED IN THIS EPISODE: Colossians 2:13–14  God made us alive with Christ, forgave all our sins, and canceled the debt that stood against us. Hebrews 10:10  We’ve been made holy through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:14  By one sacrifice, Jesus has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. 1 John 1:9  John speaks of confessing sins and God’s faithfulness to forgive and cleanse, a verse often used to teach repeated forgiveness. Ephesians 1:7  In Christ we have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins. Romans 8:1  There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. James 5:16  Believers are encouraged to confess sins to one another and pray for one another. Matthew 6:12  Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:14–15  Before the cross, Jesus taught that forgiveness toward others was connected with receiving forgiveness. Ephesians 4:32  After the cross, believers are told to forgive others just as God has already forgiven them in Christ. Colossians 3:13  Believers are told to forgive one another as the Lord has forgiven them.
