    Jesus Made You a New Creation... But You’re Still a Sinner?

    I’d love to hear from you. Are Christians still sinners after salvation, or does Jesus actually give believers a new identity in Christ?  The Bible says your old self was crucified with Christ, you’re sanctified, forgiven, sealed, and a new creation.  So why do so many Christians still say, “I’m just a sinner saved by grace”? One of the most familiar phrases in Christianity is also one of the most revealing: “I’m just a sinner saved by grace.” It sounds humble. But does it actually agree with what the New Testament says happened to you when you were saved? In Episode 58 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald takes on one of Christianity’s most common pieces of Christian Double-Talk. We say Jesus made us new, but then describe ourselves by the person we used to be. We say our old self was crucified with Christ, but talk as though he’s still alive and running the show. We say believers are sanctified, righteous, forgiven, and joined to Christ, but continue calling ourselves sinners. So which is it? Did Jesus simply forgive the old you? Or did He actually change who you are? This episode explores the important difference between sinning and making sinner your identity. You’ll discover why knowing who you are in Christ doesn’t minimize sin. It changes how you face temptation, failure, growth, holiness, and your relationship with God. Grace doesn’t tell you to pretend you never fail. Grace reminds you that failure doesn’t get to tell you who you are. Stop calling the new creation by the old creation’s name. SCRIPTURES QUOTED AND REFERENCED 2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Salvation isn’t simply improving the old person. In Christ, something genuinely new has happened. Romans 6:6 Our old self was crucified with Christ so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Paul points believers back to something that has already happened, not something they must continually accomplish. 2 Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” Our security ultimately rests on His faithfulness, not ours. 1 Corinthians 6:17 The one who is joined to the Lord is one with Him in spirit. Our union with Christ is central to understanding our new identity. 1 Corinthians 1:2 Paul calls the Corinthian believers sanctified in Christ and God’s holy people even while addressing serious problems in their behavior. Identity comes before growth. Titus 2:11-12 Grace teaches believers to say no to ungodliness and live godly lives. Grace isn’t permission to sin. Grace is what trains us. Hebrews 10:14 By one sacrifice Christ has “made perfect forever” those who are being made holy. Jesus accomplished something complete and permanent through His sacrifice. 1 Timothy 1:13-16 Paul remembers that he had been a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man and points to the extraordinary mercy Christ showed him. His past magnifies Christ’s mercy rather than becoming the identity every Christian must wear. Galatians 5:16 “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” The New Covenant answer to sinful desires is walking by the Spirit, not obsessing over an old identity. 2 Peter 1:3 God has given believers everything they need for life and godliness through knowing Christ. The Christian life flows from what God has already supplied, not from trying to create spiritual life through performance.     Jesus Changed Everything... So Why Do We Read the Old Testament Like He Didn’t?

    I’d love to hear from you. How should Christians read the Old Testament through a New Covenant lens?  Are Old Testament commands, promises, and warnings written directly to Christians today?  And if Jesus established a New Covenant, shouldn’t the cross change how we understand everything that came before it? In Episode 57 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald tackles one of the biggest sources of Christian confusion: how New Covenant believers should read the Old Testament. The entire Bible is God-breathed, inspired, valuable, and worthy of study. But that doesn’t mean every command God gave Israel was given directly to you. There’s a huge difference between Scripture being written FOR you and Scripture being written TO you. So what happens when Christians ignore covenant context? We say we’re under grace, but read ourselves back under Law. We say Jesus changed everything, but read the Bible as though He changed almost nothing. We say the Old Covenant is obsolete, but still use its conditions to determine whether God is pleased with us. In this episode, we look at how to read the Old Testament from this side of the cross without diminishing it, ignoring it, or placing yourself back under a covenant Jesus fulfilled. You’ll discover why audience matters, why covenant matters, why the cross matters, and why reading the Old Testament through New Covenant eyes actually makes Jesus more visible. The Bible didn’t become obsolete. The covenant did. And once you understand that distinction, you may never read the Old Testament the same way again. SCRIPTURES REFERENCED IN THIS EPISODE Romans 15:4  What was written in the past was written for our instruction, encouragement, endurance, and hope. Scripture can be written for our benefit without every command being addressed directly to us. Hebrews 8:13  By establishing a New Covenant, God made the first covenant obsolete. The Old Testament Scriptures aren’t obsolete, but the Mosaic covenant is no longer the covenant governing believers. Galatians 4:4-5  Jesus was born under the Law in order to redeem those under the Law and bring us into sonship. This helps explain why covenant context matters even when reading the earthly ministry of Jesus before the cross. 2 Corinthians 3:7-8  Paul contrasts the covenant engraved on stone with the far greater ministry of the Spirit. The Law had glory, but believers now live under something greater. Galatians 5:18  “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” New Covenant believers aren’t directed by the Mosaic Law as their covenant system. We’re led by the indwelling Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:3  Believers have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Our relationship with God isn’t built around earning Old Covenant blessings through performance. Psalm 51:11  David prayed that God wouldn’t take the Holy Spirit from him. David lived under a different covenant reality. New Covenant believers are indwelt and sealed by the Spirit. Genesis 6:14  God specifically instructed Noah to build the ark. It’s a simple example showing that something can truly be God’s Word without being a direct command to every person reading it. Genesis 12:1  God specifically told Abraham to leave his country and go to the land He would show him. Again, audience matters when interpreting Scripture. Old Covenant dietary laws, circumcision, sacrifices, priesthood, feast days, and Sabbath regulations  These commands were given within specific covenant settings, especially God’s covenant with Israel. They remain inspired Scripture and teach us important truths, but Christians don’t live under the Mosaic covenant system they belonged to. Adam, Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, and Israel’s history  Paul repeatedly draws from Old Testament people and events to reveal Christ, grace, justification by faith, the difference between covenants, and lessons for New Covenant believers. He doesn’t discard the Old Testament. He reads it through Christ.     Walk by the Spirit... But Follow These Rules So You Don’t Get Lost?

    CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST... SO WHY ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO DIE?

You were crucified with Christ, so why are Christians still telling you to die every day?  What did Paul really mean when he said, “I die daily”?  Discover what the Bible says about your old self, your new identity, and living as a new creation in Christ. Christians often say, “You were crucified with Christ,” but then turn around and tell you to crucify yourself again every morning. Is that what the apostle Paul actually taught? In this episode of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald examines one of Christianity’s most familiar expressions: “You need to die to yourself every day.” Galatians 2:20 says that you have been crucified with Christ. Romans 6 says that your old self was crucified with Him. Second Corinthians 5 says the old has gone and the new is here. So why do so many believers spend their lives trying to kill an old self that Scripture says has already died? We’ll look at the context of Paul’s statement, “I die daily,” and discover why he wasn’t describing a daily spiritual self-crucifixion ritual. He was talking about the physical danger, suffering, and persecution he faced while preaching the gospel. This episode explores the difference between trying to die for God and believing that you already died with Christ. You’re not an improved version of the old you. You’re not a remodeled sinner. You’re a new creation. The Christian life isn’t a daily attempt to die. It’s learning to live from the new identity Jesus has already given you. This describes a completed union with Christ, not a spiritual death believers must repeatedly perform. Romans 6:11 Believers are told to count themselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Paul isn’t telling us to make ourselves dead. Salvation doesn’t simply improve the old identity. It gives us an entirely new one. 1 Corinthians 15:30–32 Paul explains that he faced danger and the possibility of physical death every day because of the gospel. His statement about dying daily appears in the context of suffering, danger, and the resurrection of the dead. Colossians 3:3 The believer has died, and their life is now hidden with Christ in God. Our security and identity are found in our union with Christ.     Saved by Grace… Prove It?

    Grace Plus Law … Keeps You Exhausted

    I’d love to hear from you. Grace Plus Law … Keeps You Exhausted Are Christians under grace, or are we still living under law without realizing it?  In this episode of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald exposes the dangerous mixture of law and grace that keeps believers exhausted, guilty, and unsure of where they stand with God.  Discover why the New Covenant is not Jesus helping you perform better, but Jesus finishing what you never could. A lot of Christians say they believe in grace, but still live like God’s love, acceptance, forgiveness, and closeness rise and fall with their performance. They hear, “Jesus finished it,” but then they are told, “Now you better finish your part.” They hear, “You are forgiven,” but then they are told, “You need to keep getting clean.” They hear, “You are accepted in Christ,” but then they are taught to live as though God’s acceptance depends on their obedience, consistency, confession, or spiritual discipline. That is not the freedom Jesus died to give us. In this episode, we talk about why law and grace do not mix, why mixture sounds balanced but produces fear, and why the New Covenant is grace from start to finish. Grace is not weak. Grace does not lead believers into sin. Grace is what teaches us to live differently. The law can expose sin, but it cannot make you new. It can show you the diagnosis, but it cannot heal the disease. It can point out the dirt, but it cannot wash it off. Jesus makes you alive. The Spirit makes you new. Grace teaches you to live free. If you have ever felt like you are forgiven one day and back on probation the next, this episode is for you. Scriptures quoted and referenced in this episode: Romans 6:14  “For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”  This verse shows that freedom from sin’s mastery comes from being under grace, not from placing yourself back under law. Galatians 3:3  “Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?”  Paul confronts the danger of beginning the Christian life by grace and then trying to mature through self-effort. Galatians 5:4  Referenced in the teaching on “falling from grace.”  In context, falling from grace is not sinning too much and being thrown out by God. It is turning from grace as your source and going back to law as your method. Acts 15:10-11  Peter warns against putting the yoke of the Law of Moses on Gentile believers and says we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus.  This passage shows that law-pressure was not treated as a discipleship plan in the early church. It was called a yoke no one could bear. Hebrews 10:14  “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”  This verse shows the finished position of the believer. Growth is real, but it flows from being made perfect forever in Christ. 2 Peter 1:3  “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”  This verse reminds us that believers are not missing some essential spiritual ingredient. In Christ, we have already been given everything we need for life and godliness. Titus 2:11-12  “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions…”  Grace is not weak. Grace trains us, teaches us, redirects us, and empowers us to live differently. Ephesians 1:6  Referenced in the phrase “accepted in the Beloved.”  This reminds believers that acceptance comes through Christ, not through spiritual performance. Ephesians 2:13  Referenced in the truth that we have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  Believers are not trying to get close to God through religious effort.     Old Covenant, New Covenant: Why Are We Still Living Like the Cross Didn’t Change Everything?
